My family misses my cousin Jimmy I was not around when he was alive but i heard some stories about him. As I sit back and I listen to his music it makes me feel like I am back down south in the 60's. I also do not like other artist stealing his music and not giving him credit he wrote a lot of songs and some did not get credit for it
I live in Australia...have since '79. I grew up in Memphis, when everyone was listening to Jimmy Reed, and of course, so did Elvis and all of the local musicians.
When I came here to live, I brought my treasured record albums, including 3 of Jimmy Reed's and Aretha's gospel double gospel album, recorded live at her father's church in California... over 30 years ago.
I also still have the Staples Singers' album which has Respect Yourself, and Mavis Staples is coming here in April.

In the late fifties, early sixties, this is what we danced to! The best music ever! Jimmy was gone too soon. I have some of his early albums and still love to hear them.
It is a Kay "Thin twin " as said by astar334. Thin twin, because of the very thin 2 lipstick microphones. I just play it this morning for the first time after a friend of mine bought it. Tried to play Jimmy Reed song like an hommage!
@2quundar Those guitars look so cool. The pick guard is kind of like tiger striped tortoise shell. A friend of mine had a music store back in the mid 90's. He had one of these and a bunch of other cool old guitars hanging on the wall for sale. I could have picked it up for $150. I'm kicking myself now for not getting it.
the guitar is made by the Kay or Harmony factory. It's called an old kraftsman I believe. I just did a repair on one just like it. sure had fun playing with it while it was here.
I've been a BIG fan of Jimmy Reed since the 50s, and I had never heard this song before. It's absolutely beautiful. I finally got to see him, in person, just before he passed away.
I love Jimmy Reed, my fav song of his is "They Call Me A Rolling Stone", or some title, it isn't posted on Y.T. could someone please post it? I love that songt.
Jimmy Reed is awesome! I had the chance to play with Eddie Taylor in 1987 or so. Great player - so simple, yet so cool. Does anyone know if there is any video of Jimmy playing in the 60s???? I've seen one clip on YouTube, but that's it. My favorite is "Where Can She Be?". Nothing but a shuffle groove in A, but sooooo cool!
Also, which LP/CD did you get THIS tune from? I cannot find it. Thanks!
This is just flat out heavy music, I don't gave a fuck what anyone say's. This music has a grove like a diesel stroke and it can not be stopped. This Old Music is Awesome.....
( bleed with reed )look out,FH976,if you'ev got,I'LL CHANGE THAT TOO,and,I'M MR.LUCK,put'em on video!!!i'm a 110% REED fan since i was 15 yrs. old... midland,tx,fan'thanxxx....
i have 90% of jimmy reeds songs and i am surprised there are not more on you tube-i would put them on but i am not that savvy on how to do it (like little rain) which i love - mine are all on lp from 1958 on till he passed-he always used to appear in houston and i think the dance (the whip) was originated by his music only-in texas he was the main man then i had to live in monterey, calif for a while and never heard anything about him till we got back to the good old south--he is the greatest
Dunleith Mississippi, why do so many categorise blues by region, after all Slim Harpo does very close stuff to Jimmy, Whisperin Smith, Jimmy Anderson, many on Jay Millers labels, usually called Luisiana swamp blues, cripes its just blues, from anywhere. I bet we think same on this. Have a nice rockin day.
Looking for the definition of the blues...look no further.

I had the extreme pleasure and fortune on witnessing Jimmy Reed's Blues Vision
In Chicago In The Early 1970's. One Time At The New Peppers Lounge Jimmy even
started playing slide.

Jimmy Reed is the only guy who could play the same song for twenty years and still have it be a hit every time.

Can somebody post "Caress Me Baby," Jimmy's finest and most soulful song?
jeffcox 2 years ago
Yes its a butiful tune, Caress me baby like the wind caress the trees.
Have you heard odds & ends an instrumental with a fiddle player from a big orchestra, Remo Biondi I think his name was.
Jimmy was real good, but a lush ,
