  • Cont... The ego (the chatter going on in your head) then focuses on a small part of this model and interprets it based on it's preconceived notion of the universe. All this filtering is what he refers to as your "reality tunnel".

  • The universe is an influx of matter and vibrations (it seems...) are brain receives a small band of these vibrational frequencies through are extended nervous system (our senses). Your brain then creates a model using this data and this model is what you experience. Everything you "see" out there is created by your brain using signals provided by the universe....

  • Philip K. Dick's novel THE WORLD JONES MADE really goes into this!

    Excellent video. :O)

  • @pompom914

    Well they were good friends.

  • Lots of important information. Great video.

  • As a solipsist i know he is right about so many things. I am reading one of his books. He is the only man who has ever interested me enough to try see what he thought of to be true.

It is painful to see peoples shortcomings when they try to respond to these kind of thoughts. If only i could make him live again somehow, i would have loved to discuss reality with him.

  • Wow - YouTube seems so jammed with fundamentalist Atheists rubbishing fundamentalist Christians, fundamentalist Creationists rubbishing fundamentalist Evolutionists, and fundamentalist mentalists rubbishing mental fundamentalists, that it's just such a relief to hear the sound of an actual human being thinking.

    .

    Wilson continues to rock.

  • 23,000 views. Hail Eris. Proves it!

  • Awesome...so clearly put across

  • so he's saying Hitler was just misunderstood, if only you could see the world through his reality tunnel it would all make sense !

lol, isn't this some rubbish or what

  • @warwize Hitler was not misunderstood, he was funded by the West.

  • he's saying the exact opposite, listen!

  • @seansurfgood

he's saying both. Ignorance is caused by limiting yourself to one reality tunnel or naive realism. You break out of it by seeing reality from different points of view. For us it would mean to jump into hitlers point of view and see it's merits. For hitler it would mean to jump into a jews point of view and see its merits.

In the end every point of view is justified and then contradicted and nothing coherent is left.

  • all atheists and theists need to here this man

  • @COSMICSMI2LE

yep, so they can be better atheists

  • @warwize no, so they can become agnostic. no proof there is god but no proof there isnt.

  • @COSMICSMI2LE

or we can simply argue that god is an incoherent concept with too many different definitions, and too many absurd properties thereby freeing us from having to proof or disprove god-concepts.

An atheist can simply say the god concept is empty. Existence and non existence don't apply to absurdities...etc.

Agnostics give the concept too much credit by supposing it fits into the category of things that can be proven or disproven...which is ridiculous

  • @warwize Very dogmatic.Suggest you read more RAW. Right now there may be aliens or a big monster in your backyard.Deep down you know there probably isn't but remain open to the idea because there just might be. So go look; no aliens right? you still may be wrong as this video explains. so remain open to things even if they sound ridiculous; in this case god. because you never know...

"Belief is the end of intelligence" - RAW

    that includes atheists aswell btw

  • @COSMICSMI2LE

I'm open to that possibility. I'm not open to the possibility of XNSZRG being there since it is meaningless, as is god

  • @warwize i dont know what XNSZZRG is.but i assure you its not meaningless

  • @COSMICSMI2LE

sadly it has no referent, it is simply a linguistic place holder I made up for anything that is meaningless.

  • @warwize it now has meaning

  • @COSMICSMI2LE

but not the level we require in order to ask whether it exists or doesn't.

it makes sense to ask, does your mother exist, but it doesn't make sense to ask does your NZ*02 exist? Since NZ*02 refers to nothing in particular.

  • @warwize NZ*02 might exist or it might not we dont know. So you cant say it doesnt exist, just as you cant say it does exist.you might feel that it is meaningless but that does not imply non-existence.

  • @COSMICSMI2LE

you are assuming it is a thing that may or may not exist.

But it isn't anything in particular, it belongs to neither category.

  • No. It's just, as RAW points out, some people including many atheists give too much credit to naive realism. Many agnostics, on the other hand, accept that much of reality (or rather experience of 'reality') doesn't fit into the category of things that can be prove or disproven. People have experiences that they label as 'God" and these experiences have common features across cultures, but they can't be proven or disproven. They're just experiences.

  • @MarmaladeINFP If I could I'd give you like 100 thumbs up.

  • @blackops417 I'm a militant agnostic gnostic w/ leanings toward epistemological anarchism. Atheism is becoming fairly well understood & accepted in Western countries, but my view basically the same as RAW's is beyond most people's & probably even beyond most atheist's comprehension. The world would be a better or more interesting place if more people read RAW.

  • at some point - you dont wonder "who" makes the "23" show up

    its the 5

    AAAAA

  • is he saying philosophy is naive?

  • No, Naive realism is a form of philosophy he's referring to.

  • boards of canada soundtrack YES

  • @estion11 Could you point me in the direction of their best work? I really like this music. Thank you!

  • they have a good number of albums you could try

"a campfire headphase" its probably my favorite. one of my favorite bands tho a really distinct sound even in their own genre

  • You sir are guilty of this.

An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem (Latin: "argument to the person" or "argument against the person") is an argument which links the validity of a premise to an irrelevant characteristic or belief of the person advocating the premise.

  • Out of how many billions and billions and billions of stars and planets? Maybe you should gain a braoder perspective and try listening to the fact that maybe we cannot understand ourselves mainly as a result of the fragmentation you are expounding upon.

  • How can you be so sure that perception is true?

  • Of course there's one world - we all get on wonderfully, are understanding and utterly tolerant of eachother. What world are you living in? Different to the one must of us live in that's for sure! I agree there's an inherent contradiction in RAW's relativity so we need to go beyond it but he certainly speaks a great deal of sense and provides a wonderful jolt to our arrogant posturings.

  • we define reality only by what we can sense...therefore infinite possibilities exist beyond our senses because we can not know what lays beyond hearing seeing tasting smelling and touching..which by the way are not percieved externally but rather are all produced within the brain..so reality is in a sense an internal experience..without the mind there is no reality

  • that was deep.

  • yes!i like wilson better than leary and mckenna because he recognzies CONSTANTLY that what we are discovering and experiencing, is the most we can discover and experience AS HUMANS. our human bodies themselves are reality tunnels, we cant even see, hear, smell, feel frequencies other creatures can. just remember that what you see is always shaped by your final reality tunne;=lens=your human form

  • if u guys love this guy u will really like Bashar.. just youtube it...

  • I wish this dude was my grandfather, lol

  • haha... i wish he was my husband

  • I always stay speechless after his words. Like there`s nothing more to say.

  • You can neither prove or disprove many of the things he says, witch is why its "philosophy".

  • I think that there is nothing here about proving or disproving to the rest of the world except for yourself.

  • and what is so funny about that?

  • I have new respect for Fred Durst

  • Well it easy to keep the confusion going with this kind of talk...The truth is, world leaders like keeping us confused because it keeps us broke and poor while we are kissing their ass...looking for answers...they are hiding...This is our true reality. it`s their way to keep control......Don`t let him bullshit you. Enjoy life and forget about the conmen. Their favorite movie is called the,Flim Flam man watch it some time..George C Scott plays the conman

  • thank you for your much needed suggestions. lol. who are they? who's bullshitting me? the world leaders are responsible for alot of fucked up things in the world. but what your talking about is the pessimistic nature of our society today. ignorance is material things keep us slaves in it. and "a true reality" doesnt exist if you were paying attention to the vid. your right about the comment, i did forget about it and i am enjoying my life, i just dont need someone to state the obvious for me.

  • That crass music in the background is really annoying, its like giving him a halo...

  • listen to what he is saying, he is one of the greatest human beings of our time, if your reality tunnel doesnt understand his observations or if you get distracted easily, then i suggest you fuck off and not make stupid comments.

  • I am fully aware of R A Wilsons position, i think you misinterpreted my comment.

  • Mr. Wilson expresses the only logical ways to look at a subject that is beyond the human realm of understanding. Dissolve your ego mankind!

  • I wish everybody and I mean EVERYBODY was given chance to listen to these words at least once ....

  • Robert Anton Wilson.

  • Yeah, man, that's like, his name, dude!

  • please don't be cynical...it's hard to write while stoned.

  • In many ways he makes good sense here. But to dismiss religion in so sweeping a fashion is itself a form of bigotry. Religion can be good or bad depending on how it is approached.

  • I think that is his point; being aware of your approach.

  • if only more folks had this common sense. thakns

  • Pure GOLD.

  • WOW that was fucking interesting and im not being sarcastic!!

  • This is sooo beautiful! It's what our world needs right now! 6/5

  • Robert wilson once said if you have ever taken any mind altering drugs, if you have then u must know ther universe is beond our understanding. like seeing something while u trip . you seee what you tell your mind to seee, uncontrolably but it is your mind makeing that picture. the drugs highten your senses to the pouint you make your own...your own realism tunnel. if our brains could do that normaly...wouldnt that make everything unreal or real...to others, or our mind?

  • You don't need to take drugs to change up your reality tunnel ("reality tunnel" is one of RAW's best phrases, imo). In fact, drugs can ultimately stiffle the process. This is not an anti-drug statement--I love drugs and think they are useful for making yourself more aware of your subjective position.

  • i wasnt saying u have to take drugs to make one just i used it as an example of a way to look at it

  • the music's the best part

  • as with the modern quantum mechanics (metaphysically explained ii) that we are responsible for every causal non singular event in a vastly complex inter-connections of the so called "shared reality",divisions of the singular..one cannot rationalise predicaments in terms of his personal ignorance and flawed belief systems..if there is to 'believe' indifference in collective experiences should we now instantenously possess an ability or attitude to change ourselves for the greater good?

  • be the change you want to see

  • thank you for sharing this, I like to send it to my friends :)

  • my reality tunnel is more important than yours. lol jk. but i really do beleive this, and so do you. the fact is that we are all right or all wrong depending on how you want to look at it. relativity is a sonofabitch.

  • Nope don't believe anything, have temporary opinions instead. I'd say the open reality tunnel is more flexible and less ignoring of aspects of reality (ignorance), wether that's better depends on the person - the internet clearly shows lol.

  • i am a beleiver in science. and science changes when provided with new evidence. so i guess you can say i my beleifs are always ready to change in the face of new evidence. however a reality tunnel is simply the way we percieve the universe it changes with us. we always think that we are "more right" then everyone else. when we think that they are more right our beleifs change to match theirs.

  • Why does science require your belief in it? "We always" is a serious generalization although it is close to the truth. Though you call them beliefs, I call it knowledge. No need for belief in knowledge.

  • science does not require anyone's beleif. and it is true that we always beleive we are more right. if we beleived we were wrong in our knowledge or outlook, we would immediately change them and they would once again be right. knowledge is inherently beleived. if you were to disbeleive your knowledge it would mean that you did not know it. (knowing that something is false, or true, or not knowing weather it was true or false).

  • Knowing and Believing are not synonyms.

  • but they do go hand in hand. you must form an oppinion about every piece of knowledge on weather it is true, false, or undecided. you cannot beleive in something that you do not know. so they may not be synonyms, but they do have a strong relationship with each other.

  • No they don't for crying out loud. An opinion is NOT a belief either. Again with inventing synonyms. "You cannot believe in something you do not know", duh - but you can know something you don't believe! And it doesn't mean you discard it. They only have as strong a relationship as you want them to have.

  • @greycloud24 "Science does not require anyone's belief."

Science and scientific method are products of the human mind. They are themselves beliefs. Truth exists nowhere but in the mind. It is also a belief. Facts are representations of what we observe. Even if the facts didn't exist in our minds we aren't capable of observing everything let alone codifying those observations into what we call facts.

Your description of science reminds me very much of a defensive fundamentalist christian.

  • @bobbygnosis a computer works regardless of weather or not you believe it does. as i type this electrons are moving through semi-conductors, they are in a state of superposition which allows for quantum tunneling making the semi conductors conductive and non-conductive in rapid succesion. you don't have to believe the electrons work this way, but the computer would not work if they didn't. you don't have to believe it, but the computer still works, no faith required.

  • @greycloud24 Yeah, I know.. You think I'm arguing solipsism or something and are refuting it based on what you think I'm saying. I'm not arguing that belief creates substance. That's a relic, on your part, of sub/ob metaphysics.

Personally I don't particularly care what you think. I'm not even sure I care to tell you what I think. I'm not sure you'd get it. I wish you luck, though and hope you read a lot. Look into scientific method. I don't think its what I think you think it is.

    Peace.

  • u have to assume ur perceptions are somewhat true otherwise you cant live your fuking life.

  • Maybe it's true you need to trust your perceptions, but maybe its false to see it as superior, you may be way off. Reality tunnels may be complete pictures. You build your reality tunnel brick by brick, and you make your mends to it in sections to keep it updated, but it can get knocked down in an instant with the right circumstances. You can't always see its flawed until you've got one foot, or both feet out of it, and you realize something else is goin on!

  • It just means that you realize the difference between a perception and what is really true.

You don't take assumptions for truth. You don't take belief for truth. And you are able to see shades of grey instead of black/white. Sometimes you don't have the necessary evidence so don't be too quick to judge. How people can misunderstand the philosophy is beyond me.

  • lol

  • fnord.

  • This isn't common sense... or it would be more comon...

  • would be nice if everyone had this kind of "common sense", because most people act ignorant to the fact.

  • to tell you the truth...i dont think you know what your talking about.

  • then sum it up for me.....

  • You might have it, but you sure can't spell it.

  • Well just kill me for a typo then.

Give me a thumbs down. That'll show me.

  • haha, go eight38s

  • sense*

  • nice, thanks, bought his book thanks to this and another video

  • that's great to hear! Which book?

  • Nice work. We have a discussion group near Chicago that meets every Sunday night and we're using this as one of our prompts for tonight. It should be interesting :)

  • :) Sex, drugs and Magick. I'm around p. 69. Damn interesting so far.

  • Thank you!!!!!!!
