I had one of these! My second computer (circa 2000) had the 500MHz Celeron. Coming from a 486DX2 66MHz, I thought this was hot stuff. These days, I either build my own (waiting patiently for Ivy Bridge procs for my next one!) or get high-end Dells.
Everyone and their brother is a computer "technician" nowadays. A true technician either knows where the industry has been or was there in the midst of it all...and appreciates it.
Our first Pentium was a Gateway back in 1994. I had a Gateway Pentium MMX 166 MHz in 1997, though I switched a year later to a Pentium II 350MHz. Anyways, I know of someone who actually had a crappy experience with Gateway back in 1999, referring to it as the "Monster Known as Gateway," since she had a terrible experience with such.
Well keep in mind that this machine had a Celeron processor, which is the low end deal,as many commented on.
I always wanted a Gateway back then, but got a Compaq Presario 7630 (or something), it died in 2005 thanks to viruses, trojans and spywares - my fault I didn't know better.
Anyway I have a Gateway laptop I bought this year and I love it.
@Gatewayuser200 i think you may be exaggerating when you say "much, much more".. come on.. its a fucking Celeryon LOL... Celerons / Semprons (AMD's shit processors) are like the horse and buggy of the processor world.
@mikedoerrproduction Well, replace your cell phones processor with a modern celeron and it will fly out of your hands and hit your mum in the face (imagine you cell with a real intel processor lol) . And dont for get to add the AMD Duron to the list of shitty processors
This is the EXACT Gateway computer I got back in '99. What they don't tell you in the commercial is that it sucks. Seriously, not even three months after putting the thing together and getting on the Internet and blah blah, the motherboard went out O_o I can't recall the number of times I had to call tech support because my Gateway Essential computer kept fucking up
Wow, I remember this commercial and my family eventually buying a Gateway computer later in the year.

A computer for $28/month. I bet the free internet was for a limited time, and it must have been dial-up.
