  • Mimiking the nightengale in this aria is very difficult as it requires supreme flexibility and control of vocals. Only the best castrati singers were able to pull his off. Aris, bravo!!!

  • Who needs a red robin? You got this guy to cover

  • Thank you for posting this. I have a CD with him singing, but to see him is great.

  • maI SENTITO qualcosa del genere

  • Indubidably

  • It really amazes me that that voice is a man's - higher in tone than many females! I have been likened to him... but also likened to a mezzo so I'm confused.

  • Then, if you like Christofellis, it's your own taste, but I have to say he hurts me with his sharp and penetrating voice :( I prefer Cencic or Jaroussky, although they have the same "limits" artificial castrati have

  • Christofellis is talented and I think he has a great tecnique, but if on one hand I appreciate his rigour of study and his proposal of ancient&forgotten arias to new life, on the other hand his voice is neither a dim memory or idea of old castrati's voice!

Moreschi's recording can give an idea, but very restricted to the things said before, sacred music and bad quality recording.

  • It is unappropriate to compare Christofellis' voice with a natural castrato: first because we have only one recording of a real castrato (Moreschi) done in 1902 - and I would like to remember that his repertoire was mainly sacred; second, Christofellis'voice has very few qualities similar to those ascribed to (real) castrati's voice: tenderness, agility, warmth, homogeneity, endless breath...

  • @konigdernacht CASTRATI HAD NOT WARM VOICES, THEY HAD METALLIC WHITE VOICES EVEN MORE METALLIC AND WHITE THAN A BOY SOPRANO. WOMEN HAVE WARM VOICES. NEVER IS A MAN LIKE A WOMAN, EITHER CASTRATO OR SOPRANIST.

  • @AndresSopranista Well that's exactly why people love them, because they are NOT like women.

Christofelli's voice is just about perfect for stormy baroque pieces like vivaldi's aggressive arias, you cannot get any better.

  • @pianofolle Could not agree more with you.

  • @pianofolle exactly. "Bracia Legun Nel Profondo z opery "Orladno Furioso" A.Vivaldi".

  • Many people criticize his metallic voice and his falsetto, but that's exactly what I adore in his voice!

    Maybe I've got bad taste...

But there's something I'm sure. When you hear the last castrato Moreschi, you guess (in spite of the distastrous quality of the recording) he was singing a little like that...

And it might well be that so did Farinelli...

  • lolwut, he looks like Danny Tanner!!! XD

But that voice is amazing. o.o

  • I understand, Christofellis has very good sense of rhythm, but being no natural sopranista, exhibits considerable falsetto.

  • definitely good technique, and produces a good sound, however, he's more of someone to listen to and not watch. not quite as ugly to watch as Cecilia Bartoli, but still

  • haha

  • Cecilia Bartoli she's not ugly to watch. She's no Jennifer Larmore in respect to looks (especially when singing), but part of her great charm is that when she sings, she's all Music. If that means looking somewhat unsightly, then well, she will. You probably understand better than myself: she consistently commits to the Music to such a degree that - why, looking beautiful becomes impossible.

  • That's one of the distinguishing characteristics of Signora Bartoli - a singularly great extent of surrender when singing.

  • I don't like him. The video isn't good, but his technique isn't pretty!

  • DAT NIQQA IS CRAAAZY....HEHE

  • Gostosooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ele alem de cantar muito é muito guapo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bravissimoooooooooooo!

  • I can't believe I just discovered this, how careless of me. His voice is indeed extraordinary! 'Farinelli et son temps' is one of my favourite CD's. I've listened to it far too much. ;-)

  • pues aki no esta muy alla, he oido otras grabaciones en Youtube mucho mejores

  • I am not familiar with this video source either. His voice is quite extraordinary in that so few men can sing falsetto soprano. Aris' sound was "an acquired taste," but his acrobatic vocal technique was astonishing. There are a few CD's of Aris, although they are quite rare and often bring a very high price if a used one is found. You also can find some arias on YouTube in the channel sfkcbf .

  • Thank you for posting this video of Aris's fantastic singing. It'd be interesting to hear this performance with a better sound. What is the source of this video?
