After more than two months of a typical (rainy) British summer. We are due for a bit of warm weather, so get ready for the BBC to big-up Global warming again, over the years I'm sure they've helped to double the cost of our energy bills on behalf of the energy companies. The next big event for the BBC is Winter telling us that pensioners are dying because they can't afford to pay the bills!!!

No, because one of the point of AGW is that it makes people realize they are responsible for their actions and that burning forests reduces the normal intake of CO2 by nature, and that the environment is a fragile equilibrium that needs to be respected. Why do we need to destroy nature to live and progress? No technological advance will make up for the current careless sabotage of the ecosystem if it carries on.

I'm not in any denial. Any time I come across an argument against GW I look it up. Unluckily everytime I can find within five minutes a study that has reviewed it and can tell me why it's either false, outdated or a lie.

More than that, the whole thing makes sense to me. I understand how that works. No counter argument has ever given me a bigger understanding of any sort. Seeing the ratio of evidence for and against, I ask, why would you go for against unless you had some special reason to?

The fact is, the Warmists hate the human race and would be happy to see it destroyed in order to save an orchid here or an owl there (or to stop putting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere; it's the same thing). That's the real bottom line, the logical conclusion of the action they want the world to take. I also don't get the argument about it making science stagnate. I don't see which science is that that is so importantly relying on burning fuels.Technology maybe, but even then the future is with renewable energy or fusion energy, seeing as the petroleum now pumped is already really dirty and expensive to clean up.We have been able to rely on physical energy sources but we always knew that couldn't last.Now immaterial sources are the only place to go for any civilisation that intends to live on

Unsustainability is a reality, how will you assess a bona fide crisis with a massive ecological crisis at hands? Surely that concept is enough to make people think about solutions.That doesn't imply starvation of economy, just less wasting, more control and more filters or scrubbers maybe, but there are jobs and wealth to be created there too.With what is at stakes and the overwhelming evidence, any skeptic should have pretty solid proof of the fact that it's not happening to have any impact.

If you're not denying it, then either you're fine with the fact that desert might cover a third of the planet (of what will still be over the level of the sea) or you just think that as magically as it started, it'll just revert back to where it was and seeing the already clear destruction of ecosystems that has happenned it's just foolish. There is no one in the scientific community that denies it's happening. The concerns are over man made CO2? Fill two test tubes, one with air and one with added CO2 and put them in front of the sun for a while then mesure both. Those mechanisms are well understood.

Even if global warming turns out to be a natural process, if the earth becomes to warm for humans to live on it, what is there to lose to do something about it? a few million dollars here and there. What is there to lose if nothing is done? Everything.

@mysock351W You should check out the Antarctic Vostoc Ice Core Data for the past 420,000 years. It shows categorically over that time that a rise in CO2 is correlated with a rise in temperature. The problem is the CO2 increase FOLLOWS (Lags) the temperature increase not the other way round. I do not argue the globe has warmed since the last glacial period - it's only natural.

@69jaymez That doesnt appear to be the case. But, lets entertain it for a moment. If thats so, than how do you explain the change in temperature? The sun is essentially steady to within a few percent, and the orbit is fairly stable. That model provides no mechanism for the warming or cooling. Its then this mystical thing that just happens and the CO2, even though it traps heat, doesnt participate at all, but just follows it along.

@mysock351W Scientists are no where near understanding the circulation of the world's oceans, the global impact of tectonic plate movement and volcanic activity or cloud systems, and your assertion about the Sun is totally wrong. Solar activity, varies dramatically and has been blamed for both warming and cooling over decades and centuries. Much of all the variable I have just mentioned are not catered for in the IPCC Climate models because the scientists don't know how to model them!

As far as the evidence goes, global warming is a fact. Reviewing the ACTUAL data from the past century shows a very neat and clean trending of temperature with increasing CO2. C02 IS the cause. But, as far as Im concerned, its one of those threats thats way down the road. There are much more pressing and present dangers to worry about than increasing temperature.

Human produced CO2 has increased exponentially while temperature has risen and cooled cyclically with an overall upward trend which is to be expected following a mini ice age. There are many variables which have trended equally well with temperature including equal opportunity for women and minorities, coffee consumption, obesity, ethnic Chinese etc etc

@69jaymez Looking over a LARGE scale (not those stupid charts on glen becks show) over hundreds of thousands of years shows temperature tracking CO2 for the most part. CO2 concentraion is one of the major factors that drives the warming and cooling cycles. More CO2 = more heat retained = warmer global temperatures on average.

The actual claim is that it's the warmest year 'since records began' which is about 100 years ago (a miniscule period of time when considering the climate). The claim itself is highly dubious because of the location of the temperature probes used to compile the data (relatively hotter places) and the weighting given to warmer areas in temperature modelling (up to 20 times higher than colder areas).

For example, the vested interest lies in denialism, as more money can be made (including tax revenues) from using oil than from using renewable energy.
