  • what kind of trimming tool is that? and why use that over a ribbon tool?

  • @Keyarue I prefer this type, it gets into the corners better. Try one and you may also like ? ! SL

  • Aren't those oval pots the greatest things? I love them and it's great to know others do too. As for the footer, how do U trim the footer w/ equal thinnest/thickness all around? Mine come out thinner in one area and wider in another. I've used similar tool as you have there and a few others in hopes of evening out that footer width but no avail. Help! Pais/S Thx for the oval pot video. I love them and could make those all day. It's the elegance of the piece I love most I think.

  • "Get some good teaching wherever you are", that's exactly what I'm doing here watching your videos Simon. :) Inspiration and motivation must be about 50% of the process and you certainly provide that. Thank you so much for your time and sharing. JS

  • Is there a reason for the build up of trimmings in your wheel well? Is that actually green mold that is growing on those trimmings?

If you were to throw a substantial number of these pots; as you do seem to be a production potter; would it not behoove you to made a special chuck for trimming them?

What decided you on settling in Spain?

  • Yes I know its time to empty my wheel ! & no its not green mold !! I make these only occasionally so not worth the hassle of a chuck. Good to hear from a new place !

  • I like that shape!

  • i noticed the mirror in another video. why do you use it?

  • mirror is to help you see the profile of the pot you are working on ...just try it ! SL

  • Hi Simon,

Nice little pot, you make it look so simple!!the tapping was good to see once again too because I have a habit of launching my pots most of the time. I think thats because I am using a make-shift electric wheel my husband made for me and it only has one speed. too fast! He's working on making a "Leach Wheel" for me(thanks again for the plans)can't wait to use it. I'll send a pic when he's done with it. In the mean time I'll just keep practicing!!

Warm regards from Debbie in Florida

  • Wow! That really looks great! I think I am going to try and make one like that. I really like that vase. I wouldn't have thought you could trim it but obviously I was wrong about that. Great video! Thanks!

  • Ditto gal. I'm going to try it next week, too. Another priceless/unselfish tip...thank you from all of us Simon!!!!

  • Simon I've noticed the lip sync prblem on a few other peoples videos on Youtube(YT) as well so I don't think your alone, at a guess I'd say it was caused by the software YT uses to convert the video you upload from whatever format it is to an FLV format which is what the site uses.

  • Yeh, I don't feel so wierd!

HAHA You know I still teach the wadding method, I might have used a clay cone in the mouth of it or pad on the bottom for a little more stability, bit of an over kill maybe, but some of aren't as brave.

It's very quiet around there Simon has Rabi gone?

    Thanks again!

  • I like that vase, Simon. I have to try that. It will really look pretty with a second glaze running down over the first.. Hmmmmmm. The juices are flowing!

  • Brilliant again, Simon, The new way of trimming seems very secure and I hope to see this again in the future, Its always nice to experiment with somthing new, Eh? Great, The pot looks awesome too, Keep practicing! ;)
