to any fucking hippies claiming this is animal abuse and what not, until you work as a chicken catcher/counter, this is the absolute luxury way to go. i never hurt the chickens, but you do basically have to throw them in the pod. a lot of other people break their legs etc when they bite. it's not like it'll be a big selling machine either. it's cheaper to pay mexicans and me lol.

@happymerc I've worked on 2 farms and a livestock exchange, and I will never again go back. The fact that you are justifying this treatment by comparing it to "worse" abuse and treatment is deplorable: ANY mistreatment of these animals is unethical in the least. The fact is that this disrespect is not necessary. @43Coda well that's nice. but you're a moron, it's not the 60's anymore, and people don't give a fuck, it comes down to money. durka durka. it's really the lesser of two evils. and not all farms are the same, just because you've worked on two doesn't mean you've seen them all. personally, our farm has free ranging animals that are all grass fed organic no chemicals or anything. no confinement. the way it should be but that's not the way it is most of the time.

@happymerc My ag teacher was saying that free range ends up being worst for the chickens and humans. First off the chickens want small confined spaces because of security. Second she said injuries such as broken legs, scratches, and feather plucking occur 10 fold. Thirdly and this is for teh humans, eggs that are layed out in the dirt come out moist with pores open, those pores then suck up any bacteria from the dirt just to go inside the egg. The eggs drys up, pores close, and bacteria festers.

REALLY??? I drove field loader, loading cages of chickens from inside chicken houses to truck... Catchers DO NOT have to "chase" the birds AT ALL!!! Simply put up a line of garbage bags and the birds are too STUPID to go past them... Catchers can catch most birds by simply reaching down & picking up... Absolutely NO CHASING!!!

you're correct, it is a promotional piece for the herding machine that i found. i disagree strongly with industrial-scale raising, slaughter and processing practices for all animals. they're not only cruel but are dangerous to the human workers and consumers.

ironically, this machine is actually the most humane portion of the process for chickens. they're lucky to have it.
