@amzfishman , (ctd) wouldnt go along with the classical vocals of tarja, simone and many of these other singers. the brutality of the instrumentals would take away from the vocals. and thats why you wont find tarja in a death metal band, lol.

so, before you go bashing metal bands that arent all about speed and ruthless riffs, maybe you should think about WHY the band isnt all about that. maybe thats not the image they want to put out. metal is metal, theres just different sub-genres of it (:

@amzfishman , arch enemy has a different style of metal. you cant compare her to any of these vocalists because of the extreme difference in their styles.

she does have a talent. its extremely hard (and painful) to do vocals like angela gossow does, but dont trash these bands because they dont scream and growl like she does.

most of these bands are more in the symphonic metal genre, whereas arch enemy tends to fall somewhere more towards melodic death metal.

Tarja is one of the most versatile singers in business today.

She played all genres of rock and metal, classical, opera, baroque, chamber music and even trance to name a few.

She has a huge range, uses techniques from all music genres, uses different timbres and switches from mezzo to lyric soprano or spinto(this actually is unique btw).

Your ear may not be fine enough or you were contaminated by trash music. Listen more NW and Tarja to cure yourself :)

I just didn't listen much to Tarja because I didn't like the music much. The only band I listen more than Nightwih and Epica is Dawn Of Destiny.

I know Tarja play a lot of music genre. But the way she sings it? Is there any much different? And I don't care how much she use mezzo or soprano.

As I've said before it takes training, a decent musical ear or at least some experience to notice some things.

Listen to Gethsemane (dark timbre with full vibrato), POTOR(light timbre, identical with an opera aria), Siren(mistical with an oriental feel and that strange powerbelting in the middle), Slaying the dreamer(partially death metal), leaving you for me (vocal trance).

I just gave you a ton of examples where she sounds so differently that sometimes seems it's not even her.
