Within 3 hours of him being release from jail, he called on his people to continue the armed struggle. Even he believes the sword is mighter than the pen. The murder rate in South Africa rose to over 25 000 when he was released and is now below 18500, although I believe these figures to be higher.

Put it this way, for a militant who spent years in arms struggle, it is fair to assume his influence could have been easily maintained by staying the same route (like most power hungry who clinged onto power in history). But for someone especially that background, it takes a great man to change the perspective completely like that.
