  • just found this. i definitely need some help with dexterity .. hoping this helps!

  • nice

  • HaHa.."Old Guys Golf",Nice Shirt

  • I have been doing this exercise for a week now and its really helped all my fingers but i still can't do it backwords as good as i can do it starting from the top so i guess i just need to keep doing it.

  • you don't really need to do exercises for dexterity.... just for warm-up... practice scales, keys, and arpeggios for dexterity.

  • @Criss19881988 I'm sorry to say but this has nothing to do with the video's framerate. I would suspect either a low quality recording device or high compression ratio resulting in loss of video quality. (blame the webcam)

Since we are in North America, the only two possible framerates that could be used are 24 fps (reserved for films) and 29.97 fps, which is the actual framerate for color video in the US, not 30 fps. (there is a big difference).

  • i need both!

  • ive always tried to pick up some really simpe yet thoughtful exercises so i can build up the dexterity....thi should do the rick, thanks!!!

  • yo i did this for 2 weeks evryday and it rlly works

    thanks alot man :D

  • Hey MosGuitar, good to hear you have exercises

that work for you,, play on, oh and by the way, no one will ever make you do this particular one!

  • have something for advanced guitar players.. I know around 200 songs and am thinking about doing a band.. but.... when i play for 3-4 hours straite my fingures get "very" stiff" I was looking for a exsersice that was like fingure "stretching"

  • just keep playing!

  • @keola310 chinese balls help with Carpal tunnel syndrome.

  • yeah kinda confusing...

  • confusing 0.o

  • i just need my picking to keep up with my fingers

  • i need my fingers to keep up with my picking

    :[

  • Thanks for that lesson. I've been looking for something to "warm up" and practice with. I am one of those who doesn't use my pinky often and I think this will help. Thanks alot man. Rock On!

  • we perhaps may able to agree if you start doing this exact exercise and see how your hand and fingers feel as weeks go by in equalty of control.. I say your hand "does know" that this pattern is getting results, so we can call it an exercise that may save you tons of time practicing everything else as you learn because your fingers are so mobile so to speak, much sooner than most would imagine

  • oh and yes this kind of thing is forever and every day, think of it as warm up..we think it really keeps your hand in clear shape to play anything

  • I would think you already knew that the C# is a very most important tone of the G major scale! but that has nothing to do with the symetry of the exercise, and the fact that the flat fifth is present in the pattern, it is great because most students do not have the ear or get exposure to the use of the flat 5 til much later in study! what a gift to get it upfront, no matter wgat music idiom you play, jazz, rock blues even melodic tunes, that tone is used all the time passing or otherwise,

  • if you or anyone thinks this is a ploy needs to rethink the purpose, and if you think it is a shortcut, then in fact it is, a hidden secret to the physical reality of playing the guitar! I would love to hear you sometime, maybe post a video of your talent..if this exercise does not greatly improve your hand co-ordination then I'm sorry you wasted your time checking it!

  • dont worry musicruler I still think you're awesome. Nobody wants to do finger exercises like this but they actually work, PEOPLE, JUST TRY IT

  • I would think one will see the benefit of being able to use this exercise concept in order to be well prepared physically to play the guitar! you know all the music theory and be an ace at that, yet if you cannot play what you know what is the use? ! I hope your comment is in that vein that others get it !

  • old guys rule!

my english teacher has a sticker that says old guys suck and it has a broken board in back. thats pretty funny, cuz hes old.

    anyway thanks for this

  • thats kinda random... lol

  • Thank you so much Sir! The LORD Bless and keeps you!

  • thanks a lot pal

  • is that a positive!

  • hahaha ya it is i see what you mean tho i guess i didnt read it back to myself.ok here we go...thanks for the help man!lol

  • Great lesson, half F# Locrian and half not? Either way I see it the same as you, most finger exercises sound like crap but are very usfull, check out my vids if you like.

  • Oh wait, say something about starting the G major scale on F# and how throwing the C# in helps resolve it. If you're not sure I'm right... just trust me on this. (Technically you should throw it in on the 4th fret A string too, but nobody around here knows shit like that?) See, I am a nice guy.

  • There, go back and delete the other 2 and this one and then answer the one below this with some muscle memory thing and we're all good. Don't forget to delete your past responses to me too.

  • That's not a real G major scale, dude. You're throwing in the C# on the B string. You might want to mention that. AND, instead of saying 1-2-3-4, why not say the actual notes.

  • u practice it till u can do it fast without thinking about it . that is muscle memory. nice exercise

  • yep and you see that your first postion major scale and of course relative minor is right there within the exercise..so there you go..you might want to order the CD and study for this perspective, I can show you all the short cuts to mastering the guitar and making it so much simpler than it looks!

  • what is the idea of this excersise? i'm practising but don't understand what im trying to achieve, sorry if i didnt explain that well enough.

  • You are building equal fluidity and strength of all four fingers also you will notice the major scale with the exercise, that's is where all the melodic licks and melodies in most all tunes live! might want to oreder the CD too! lots of great short cuts to mastering the guitar really quick! thanks

  • That's not a real G major scale, dude. You're throwing in the C# on the B string. You might want to mention that. AND, instead of saying 1-2-3-4, why not say the actual notes. How can you expect to "master the guitar" without knowing the notes on the instrument? "Guitar players" suck! Be a musician instead.

  • Again your comment is well taken and I am a vet musician! You need to grasp the reason for this hand exercise, it is only about the physical, we can easily add the musical part! and so can you since it sounds like you know your notes! dig the purpose!

  • "names of strings, names of music... anything... matters not." I can't believe you actually said that. OH MY GOD!!

  • Sorry but the intention is to simply develop your fingers physically in order to play the guitar! I agree the music part is all important and will be obviously taught, but if you can't physically play the instrument the theory is really mute, would you not agree, so perhaps that explains the purpose of this excercise,

  • coooll

  • is it working for you?

  • you lost me for a sec there but i think i got the hang of it now. kool. thanks.

  • it is all about muscle memory

  • shouldnt u be starting off with 2 and not 1?
