I could understand what Ozzy was saying back in the 70s but I dont understand him when he's talking now. Maybe coz of the drugs he did after he left Sabbath.
Ozzy said "We're not going to blow up the stage or anything." And Ritchie Blackmore did just that! Did Ozzy have inside info on the Purple act or what?
I had a blast there, I think I was just in the middle between the front stage and the second set of speakers were about 50 yards behind me. I was like 15 or 16. It was awesome fun!
@Butwanna id u barely remember it then maybe you should get a copy of the dvd they released of deep purple at cal jam 74...called Live in california 74
i think they also have a cd called california jamming..
Live audio venue techs should be very grateful for this event. It was a technical logistical nightmare that they some how overcame with head room to spare. A lot of doe's and don'ts were discovered. From testing psycho- acoustic theories and formulas, including wind direction, velocity and power consumption anomalies. It effected the way big venues progressed at the time. The system was a lot bigger than Woodstock. At the time, it would have shrunken any techies boner.
Delburd, i get the joke ...old monty python... I used to live in a shoe box in the midle of the road, and all we had to eat was warm gravel, and when we got home our dad would beat us around the head and neck with broken glass, but if you try telling the kids of today...
You at the top of the page are an idiot ! I was there and All the bands were good . I remember Black Sabbath as well as Deep Purple and ELP . ELP played Lucky Man on acoustic guitar instead of the whole band and THAT sucked ! I thought Rare Earth , Earth , Wind and Fire , Seals and Crofts , The Eagles , Black Oak Arkansas , Black Sabbath , Deep Purple , and ELP were ALL good ! YOU suck !

Listen, I don't know anyone who is dumb enough to think that Sabbath had half the talent of Deep Purple or ELP. Only someone who is either tone deaf or as stoned as OZZY would think that way.
Sabbath were a back street band that blew all the others away, they did it their way , nobody is asking you to like them. Who cares about you opinion?
You really are one dumb shit to think like that, who is it that has stood the test of time, i have`nt heard fuck all about Deep purple for years of any real relivance, however i work in Waterstones in Piccadily, London, England, which is the biggest book store in Europe and on the release of ozzy`s new book this week we were sold out in less than half an hour !!, even Harry fuckin Potter did`nt do that !!.
I think the problem with Deep Purple is that they had too many personnel changes even while they were popular. Most people would agree the Gillen version was best, but they also had hit albums with Rod Evans and David Coverdale as the singers.
Sabbath had a ton of different members too, but that stuff was mainly in the 80s when people stopped caring, so at least people can latch onto the whole 70s era with Ozzy, then maybe the brief 80-82 Dio era.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Deep Purple were given the choice of whether to go on last or second to last because at the time, they were the biggest selling band in the world at the time. Sabbath still hasn't sold nearly as many albums as Purple. And the 2 bands everyone remembers from this show were the headliners. Deep Purple and ELP. I guess being stoned and braindead doing a reality TV show lets people think you were bigger than you actually were. Sabbath in the 70's was never as big or as good as Purple or ELP.
It may have been nerve-wracking...but given the way the crowd responded to them that day, I think Sabbath were the band that EVERYBODY there that day really wanted to see (even for as popular ELP and Purple were at that time).
@setibevol88 I agree. I'm a big Purple and Sabbath fan but the fans really seemed to respond best to the heavy rhythmic beats of Sabbath. NO surprise there seeing as how they're some of the best ever written. Purple was good but would've probably been better if Gillan hadn't left the year before.
By that reasoning so are all the above people from the bible. Plus, how did you get to that window to post. you clicked on it your self.... Soooo, you are of the devil now? Right? Also... when Jesus cast out devils and deamons from people He would have became of the devil by hearing the words the possessed uttered as he was doing so... I dont think it will corrupt anyone that has a love for God to listen to or read anything so us and Jesus are perfectly safe from your damnation!
God used sinners to teach us lessons and they were good enough for him... Are you saying you are better then him?
Moses murdered a man, David sent a man to death on the front line so he could have his wife, Noah was a drunk but yet "A good man for his time" and even the people Jesus had around him were sinners and he didnt use the unbending jerk tactic to get through to them. And you assume that people are of the devil because of what they do or watch for a moment.
Half of Ozzies songs in his first album are him praying to God... Now go back a few pages and see how my comments started defending this video from some negative so called "Christian" You are being judgmental before you know the whole story... I have been listening to this music since I was born in 1968. How about you?
If you will look most of audiophile55 have been erased by the author of this video have been erased because he was being a jerk to the people who love The Oz Mans music. These comments were to put him in check for his false Christian retoric. And now you are here telling me to go some place else 3 months after the fact when I have been a loyal fan for at least 35 years that I can remember...I guess you have a direct line to Ozzies mind and know he would not want me to be here right?
You have nothing to teach anyone... we have only one teacher and that is Jesus... you do him no justice with the way you aproach this topic you actually do more damage then good! The way you attack people for their actions is not how one would picture the prince of peace doing so...
audiophile55 "It's not what you put into your mouth that defiles you it is what issues forth, for all forms of iniquity issue forth from the mouth of man"...
I watched the Osbourne's one time. His brain is fried, and it's from all the drugs and booze, and no one in his dysfunctional family can say two words w/o one of them being profane. I don't indulge in the rather dubious practice of watching the sick , twisted & perverted programs on today's TV.

Another thumbs-up for "Sabotage," my favorite Sabbath album. I'm probably in the minority, but this is the Sabbath album I'd turn to first. "Hole in the Sky" is mesmerizing, and "Symptom of the Universe" grabs me every time. Oh, the thrill of it all!
Sabotage is a good album, but in my opinion, not the best. Actually, I don't have a favorite album. If I had to name a favorite, I'd probably name all of these: Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage.
Master of Reality was the heaviest. Vol 4 was the grungiest. SBS and Sabotage were progressive and Paranoid had the best collection of songs. I think Master of Reality and Sabotage are their most important albums as far as what they did for the genre. My 2 cents.
Yeah, Sabotage was a great album, one of their best! Even TE and NSD had some good tracks. Then Heaven and Hell kicked ass aswell, but in a totally different way.
