thats playoff passion and why the refs didn't blow whistle i don't get it and thats why the fans where booing because hello a players down and hurt! sydor you showed that this is what NHL playoff do to you and your will and lengths you'll go to win!
The whistle didn't blow because his team didn't have control of the puck/play. It's similar the the "injury" during the last 2 minute rule the NFL has. Sydor is hurt, no question, but if you blow the play dead then what's stopping every team from having a "hurt" player hit the ice and flop around in order to stop play and take the heat off?
Had Sydor been in a postion to be hurt further, then the refs would have stopped call by the refs on not stopped the play.
@curti780mikel759 probably because the other team was in scoring position. the refs won't usually blow a whistle in that situation until the team in scoring position loses posession. in the playoffs this year Tim Thomas had his helmet knocked off but still had shots flying at him because the other team was still in control of the puck and in scoring position
@ehdawg16 except thats the case, they don't call it dead if you're in scoring position. like I said, it happened during the playoffs this year to Tim Thomas, it's standard procedure
I remember this, but I was too young to really understand what was going on. I don't think you would see this kind of thing from a football or basketball player. Hockey players are just incredible.
Besides Hull's controversial Cup winning goal, this is my earliest hockey memory. This single act of devotion and dedication made me understand just how important the Stanley Cup is and my first sense of how tough hockey players are.
Watching this video made the hair on my arms stand up....hockey is played by warriors. He was willing to sacrifice the rest of his body for the team, for the cup. priceless...
actually, it's the opposite point. he got up to help his team because the play wasn't stopping. it was the devils who (although on the kill), were attacking
ughh I still remember watching this on TV. Simply amazing. I always think of this awsome display of devotion and toughness whenever I get into an argument with someone who thinks hockey is dumb.
no matter who ur a fan of, u need to watch this and know how big of a team player sydor showed he is there. he is going through unbearable pain and still trys to make himself effective. very unselfish
fuckin HERO!!!!

@Edgehead1132 bullshit, a lost goaltender helmet is immediately called dead when noticed. Hockey is bad ass, but that's just fucking retarded.

All the heart you could ask for and more. Too bad to see him walk off into the sunset today. The NHL needs more players like Sydor.

regardless of what team Sydor is on, that was pretty cool of him to keep the play going so that at the team could have a chance.
