This game was included on the "Namco Museum - Vol. 1" and "Namco Museum 50th Anniversary" for the PS2 and "Namco Museum DS" for the Nintendo DS. Never heard of this game when it was in the arcades, but this game is fun. This was before "Galaga" came along about 2 years later. It was made in 1979 by Namco and it was licensed by Midway. Midway was the company that licensed all the Namco games.
Just hearing the swarming sound of the alien ships and the PSSH, PSSSH noise of your guns brings memories of early 80 arcades flooding back! I never maxed teh machine out. My top whack was about 33,000.
Happy memories of a wasted youth! I was hopeless at Space Invaders but good at Battlezone. I've got the Atari emulator of Ballezone and my best score now is 160,000

The game runs on dedicated hardware, most likely programmed in Zilog Z80 machine code.

The ships only had a few attack patterns and once you got used to them you could nearly do it blindfold.
