Oh goodness how glad I am to live in the UK, with our Universal Health Care. We all pay in our taxes and we are all are covered. This is the cheapest and most efficient system there is. It is also, of course, the fairest and most civilised.

The US it is number one in cancer, it is however 33rd in infant mortality, the reason being cancer is more profitable than babies.

France has the highest rated healthcare system in the world, overall it produces better results than the US and costs about half as much per capita and guess what it is universal and largely government funded.

Call a Dr. and tell him you want to pay in cash! This really works if you have money and you are well known in your community. I have insurance and I am well known. I wanted to see what I could get a procedure taken care of for if I offered cash. For cash, out the door, the cost was half of what the fake insurance pumped it up to be. You forgot to point out how when drug companies and med tech companies figured out the consumer wasn't paying (no market competition) the cost skyrocketed and turned $12 over the counter drugs into $150 by prescription. If I ever get very sick or need a surgery I just go back to Italy and check in the hospital for free and stay there as long as needed also get great service I had health insurrance and got horrible service here in the US I paid about $200 a month, a ticket to Italy only coast me between $600 to $1500 depending from the month, I only needed a surgery once in about 10 years so flying back is much more convinient for me.

The problem isnt the Healthcare itself - the problem is rather the ever raising price of medicaments and therapy.

Doctors and pharma companys can raise their profits ad infinitum cause they know people will need them or suffer or die.

What we do need is a way to control profit margins of health related services and products.

It's a shame you left out insurance companies dropping you if you make too many claims or threatening to not cover things because of "pre-existing conditions". I had a friend who had stomach cancer (and died from it) at the age of 19 and her insurance company refused to cover her because she had previously been diagnosed with "stomach related illnesses" so it was a pre-existing condition. =/

Personally, I don't bother with insurance...they refuse to pay for things so I'm better off on my own.

I am glad you mentioned Micheael Moore's documentary.This video is simplistic and leaves out the most important things. The health care insurance in this country is based on greed. A guy sits in an office and decides whether or not your treatment is necessary, regardless of what your doctor says.
