  • There were actually two original purple beasts, the first was urethane (92 version), the second reactive (93 version). Colors were exactly the same, logos were slightly different only in the number of "teeth" on the logo.

Columbia's first resin balls were the prohook and prohook extreme. Reactive Beast and reactive Black U-dot both came out about the same time, would have been spring of '93.

  • The Beast was Approved for both the ABA and The PBA in March of 1992. Just look on the Columbia website under retired balls

  • Great post buddie! Low scoring, but a real nail biter!

  • How about them Brunswick Rhinos? lol

  • Actually, that's a Rhino Pro I believe (that Gianotti is using).

  • It certainly was

  • Ya, in the Columbia Open! LOL I'm kind of surprised because Columbia had just released it's first reactive resin ball, The Beast. Great ball by the way, I still use mine on occasion.

  • One of the first resin balls manufactured by Columbia 300 industries was the Pro Hook and the Pro Hook extreme. Debbie McMullen and Dana Miller-Mackie used those balls in their matches. The beast was released in early '93.

  • I have to respectfuly disagree with you on the release date of the Beast. I went into the Army on May 19, 1992 a date I will never forget. LOL and I already had my Beast.

  • I remember Columbia 300 had two versions of the Beast. They had a urethane version and a resin version. Tish Johnson won the '92 Michigan Ladies Classic with the urethane Beast.

  • Sorry, but there was no Urathane version until the Blue Beast came out in 94. Tish won with the Reactive version.

  • Carol Gianotti was on Brunswick's pro staff during that time.

  • thx irishpogi
