  • They were at a costume party not trying to emulate historic native american attire. I don't see a doctor, construction worker or anyone else getting upset every time someone dresses in a costume depicting them. And if ANYONE should be upset, it's the naughty nurses getting a bad rep. ;)

  • you're just a geed thats pissed you didnt get a bid

  • it's a shame

  • people get too sensitive about things.young kids having fun no harm

  • wow its college...needless to say they were having fun, don't you guys remember your college days? It's not disrespect they were just trying to have a good time....Fighting Sioux forever!! :)

  • @AngryActivist45 Go for it.

  • as a college student i have nothing to say about the girls i think they are appropriate, i can't read what their t-shirts say. But for the boys, that is inappropriate, period, i am not native american, nor do i have to be in order to be offended. blood on their body? that's fucked up. over all, those boys look like they don't fit in college, it's obvious they are weird awkard looking, they look like the rejects at my college. PERIOD!

  • @Mulania007 Who said it was blood? Don't assume.

  • @strongdude76 it's supposed to be war blood

  • so its ok if it is a cute little kid with a lisp and they are learning about thanksgiving? please! this is not racism. this is college kids having a party and if anyone is truly offended by it then you need to grow up. they arent wearing regalia from religious events, education is a great idea but advocate for that not more "politically correct" bullshit.

  • @Yuffie3982 -- Because everyone knows that white girls are hookers.

  • Oh my God! People having fun?! This is outrageous!! Everyone knows that indians never smiled or had parties!! This is abhorrent...someone should enlighten these poor souls that native americans did not believe in happiness. How tasteless, how perverted, how discriminatory.

We cannot let this go on any longer, we need to adopt an amendment to the constitution--that no one shall wear clothes that are deemed outside of their perceived culture! The "Only-white-people-are-racist" clause!

  • @eatmynastysnatch you need to learn your history. My people always smiled and had a good time. Its the stereotype of Natives that don't smile or have fun. Lol this shit they did is stupid I think my next college party we'll dress up like nerdy white kids and take a bunch of pictures as we have a circle jerk watching porn.

  • keep the name fighting sioux

  • I'm native American and I hate racist people and people who think all native Americans are the same or listen to stereo types

  • God I love dumbasses. Does anyone with roman background ever freek out because of toga partys? Would the scotts be upset if there were fratt girls in short kilts? HELL NO! This is just abunch of drunk dumbasses. No one is taking them seriously as an accurate representation of native americans

  • this is a party.. of college students... dressing up as natives... like halloween... i would find it me discriminating if these kids dressed in full proper Sioux outfits and were drinking and making as*es of themselves... get over it.... one who notices racial acts is the racist.

  • How to respond? If you go to a school which has a Native as there mascot then I would think you would try show the best image possible. U know school pride. What I see here is drunk idiots trying to make themselves clowns of a party. Its a shame that these students didnt realize that their actions could cause racial tensions. Body markings have meanings and in some to intimidate. Education is the key. The school should offer a required class to understand the Sioux culture.

  • Big. Deal.

  • @AngryActivist45 You must hate Halloween

  • why should we be suprised, this is typical white privelage metality at it's best, this comes from those that have lost there own sense of culture and integrity

  • That's why the most advanced degree from UND is torn from a roll of bathroom tissue. But Montana isn't too far ahead.

  • Fuck UND and their racist mascot, I boycott the games every time my school plays them!!!

  • @SexyPianist89 HAAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Fine, we don't want you to attend anyways. You prick.

  • when people imitate people based on cartoons and westerns and the people you're imitating kno its wrong it can be offensive. anytime i can be at a party and call out when we're gonna get in a fight somethings wrong but if we were at this party im sure we would be fighting. TO MR JITWAD every race buthers fasion. you seem to be the one uneducated if u think native's are poor because we dont get our act together.

  • I've seen how you Native American's butcher fashion while at WalMart, so let's call it even. Look like the students are drunk and partying with friends. You have the same people over and over. So what? This doesn't prove anything. You're poor, uneducated, blame the US and white people for everything instead of getting your act together and contributing SOMETHING to society. You people don't have my respect.

  • @MrJitwad you are a P.O.S and a fucking retard!

  • @AngryActivist45 I think that would be hilarious the juxtaposition of a Native American woman in "B.A.P.S." style...go for it I would support you 100%.

  • They're not having a politcal rally they're binge drinking. I don't think racial sesitivity training is in order. Do you think the po-po get mad when a girl dresses up in a "cop" costume...no, its all in good fun. It'd be the same if Snoop Dog dressed up as Martha Stewart or like when my italian friend Toni went as Ike Turner for Halloween...its all about intent...and obviously they're intent was to have fun and party down, not dog on Native Americans.

  • As a native american i don't see anything offensive about that ,especially when a bunch of students are trying to emulate our culture besides the fact that there drinking other then that its all goodfun. now if we all had the same mind set as you i would'nt be wearing the clothes i have on because that would be racist to the white man copying them , and i would'nt beliving under a roof instead id be living in a wigwam or a tipi.or trying to steal horses to travel around in.

  • I watched the entire vid. You're more sensitive than a diseased vag to be offended by this. What aboout toga parties? Or pimps and hos? Or 80's theme?

If everyone thought like you do then none of these would exist.

  • bigotsniper...seems theyre having a party and dressed up...if you threw a toga party, would you enforce that everyone acted like a proper roman? theyre just having fun.

  • I am so sick of people bitching about it. I'm native and live on the reservation. I have my whole life, and I know for a fact that no one makes fun of native stereotypes more than natives do. And I've heard people from every race joke about all kinds of different stereotypes, being it race, religion, etc. People need to quit crying around about something, then turn around and do the same thing. Grow up people!

  • Did you go to that party and take those photos? I actually go to UND and that was one instance...it does not reflect on the rest of the campus. The party was a cowboy and indians one....how would you dress up for that? I'm sure you would have donned the same outfit.

  • your video is total crap, an insult of the highest grades, you have not learned all ...

  • Fuckin whoopee! Nothing offensive there. I mean i am Scandinavian and when i see Vikings fans dressing up for games i don't take offense. What it is is you have some Natives and douche liberals take offense at something thats harmless. Brush the chip off of your shoulder. Oh and lastly: Go Sioux!!!!

  • yes that would be wrong and racist cause you have chosen to go as a hooker, that is wrong. but this college has chosen an indian theme, not an indian hooker theme. if it was an indian hooker theme you would be right. your trying to compare apples with oranges you dumb bitch.

  • thats jus not cool

  • So this is offensive? So the Italians should be offended by Toga parties, the Irish should be offended for St. Patrick's Day and the English for soccer hooligan parties. Give me a break. I'm not offended at the perspective that Ukrainians dance all the time and are anti-Semitic because there is a grain of truth to the idea. Every culture has a stereotype and they do not dictate the progression of a particular culture within a society.

  • If your gonna use this in the names changing argument then go piss up a rope. this hole situation is so dumb. Im norwegian and you dont here me bitching about the minnesota vikings and i absolutally hate that team. or how about the Noter Dame Fighting Irish...why is that not an issue? just because its a white mascot its none issue then i guess? im so sick of this race card being pulled

  • I think that this whole thing was blown out of proportion and in the end wrecked the party and a few students night. Honestly people grow up the only thing that stops equality, is people feeling like they have to walk on egg shells around different racist. We are all people stop being petty.

  • I think that people can look for racism anywhere...Quit trying to be a shit disturber whoever posted this..Did they just go to the party to take pics and cry later or did they take someones elses fun time and try to make a stink for nothing...BOo Hoo..and I'm native by the way..

  • I am from spirit lake sioux tribe in nd i feel those pics are raciest in a way i was not for changing the und nickname but from everything that was said in the news and other natives i feel that the name is be changed

  • The real idiots are the ones (especially bigotsniper) who believe this tiny portion of UND students represent the entire student body. It was just a random theme party... Relax. The majority of UND students are not like this.

  • The only thing I realized with this video is

HOW HOT THOSE COLLEGE BITCHES ARE! gotta hurry and get my high school diploma to go to these parties lol

  • oh yea, thats just the worst racism ever. just like when indians dress up in suits and ties. or put on army uniforms. just terrible. horrible. come on idiots, it is not racist. you are just fools.

  • Are you really that stupid?

  • @dog8788

Do you go around painting your face black and putting on an afro? You dont do it, you treat a race with respect. Painting your face black and doing what these students have done, is mocking that race.

There are still Native American nations that wear their traditional clothing. People need to be educated in respect

  • i honestly dont think that they were trying to be malicious or anything...they are just misinformed/ignorant and thats the fault of the school....

  • Comment removed

  • What the white students are playing is a white misconception of the "Indian" built and fortified by white racism...nothing more!

  • bunch of ignorant white kids who wanna fit in and pretend that they have some color to them. If its not trying to fit in with the hip hop scene its anything else these pathetic fucks can find.

  • @azmonica Fo shizzle.

  • im part native american and im not offended at all..its a themed party. I dont think there trying to diss anyone...

  • I looks to me like a theme party...

"It's something you learn after your first theme party, it's all been done before." Angels in America

    Get over it

  • This is a message to the creator of this video, go shove broken glass shards up your ass. Grow up!

  • Funny.... I can't seem to find any videos on you tube showing pictures of all the sexy nuns or guys dressed as pregnant nuns on Halloween. They're disrespected and they don't have any teams named after them. Maybe the name isn't the issue?

  • Just a typical day in 'white America Land'.Nothing has changed in the past 500 yrs.UND can say what ever they want but one picture is worth a 1,000 words.Unfortunately, too many Americans can not read. And before anyone gets twisted, my grandkids are 1/2 aboriginal here on the west coast.

  • I saw nothing wrong with their dress. They were in no way defacing the Sioux as that was the traditional dress of almost all of the Native Americans back in the day. Why's the Fighting Sioux such a bad deal? It should considered an honor that UND respects them that much that they want to honor them by making their tribe the figurehead of the University.

  • its just a party, get over it.

im hawaiian, and i dont get all offended when white people have luaus.

  • The Pictures are just of the same people... and I cant belive its such a big fuzz... get a life!!! GO SIOUX

  • I am a proud member and supporter of the UND Fighting Sioux nickname and tradition! Kids will be kids, but knowing who and what we stand for is what puts us above anyone elses actions or comments.

  • i think that und should cut ties with the sioux. all they are is a bunch of fucking cry babies.i think to have a nickname like the fighting sioux would be a great honor. but theyy see it as talking shit about them. we could call you the sioux meth heads or the one tooth wonders. or the worthless retards

  • as a traditional sioux women you do offend me by even thinking those things.i went to alot of effort to teach my now adult children to respect ALL cultures and people . you should learn the same.

  • hey mattfromtampon11, the civil war IS OVER AND YOU LOST...GET OVER IT.Since every single person, except Native Americans, are immigrants, don't talk trash about something you apparently know nothing about.

  • @coaren2 Amen! ^5

  • @mattfromtampa11 You are a fucking moron! I hope you dont breed. Your mom and dad must have been brother and sister you pathedic P.O.S

  • It's all perspective.. where your from and who lives around you. It's easy to dismiss whether something is offensive or just for fun, what we as a society need to be continuesly aware of is how our actions effect our sisters and brothers of Mother Earth. We're all different and that's what we should celebrate! Be thoughtful and courteous... not only in the way your mind portrays other societies and cultures, but also for the people who don't know better. It's better to educate than hate.. :)

  • AMEN

  • @dougaliciousf Agreed!!!!!

  • Hey, people have "theme parties" all the time... gangster parties, white trash parties, hawaiian parties, and etc... Im Native American and i want to have an ndn themed party as well, big f.n. deal, the only thing i dont like is the chief wahoo face even though I know a couple ndn's who look like that... LOL People need to lighten up, its not like they were physically harming someone...

  • what is wrong with that, if they have a problem what about all the white people dressing like they are black? huh

  • i think the protesters of the logo and BRIDGES are just using the GPB dance to their advantage as something to use on their side... they have nothing else since the university and the REA have 100% complete respect for the Sioux name. No one bitched me out for having my Sioux party in my house during the Frozen Four.

  • Would this even be an issue if the party was themed for Norwegian and everyone dressed as Vikings (the standard thought on how they looked is very wrong also), or if it was to be German, and people missdressed in Liederhousen (sic), except for what looked like three guys who were the ones with the body paint, most didn't look that bad. Yes the clothing were not typical of traditional dress, but more along the lines of halloween style.

  • I wish people would stop telling me that as a Native I should feel proud of the Sioux logo, that i should not be so sensitive, that I should not be so PC. Please, spend a day in my life and then make your judgements. I find this offensive--period. Don't tell me what I should and shouldn't find offensive. These idiots should have known better. How about we change to the Fighting Zulu Warriors, or the Fighting Mexicans, or the Fighting Jews? How long would that be tolerated????

  • Hmm, how about the Fighting Irish, yeah, that would be horrible to see for those of Irish heritage. And heck, they are a UND also. 'specially that stupid Logo they use for the Fighting Irish, puts the current Indian Head to shame for disrespect of a culture.

  • @ant2181 Actually, some of my Jewish bro's would love for our mascot to be the Fighting Jiouxs. They even made T-shirts with this.

  • Looks like the toga parties we had in the 70's If there were any greeks around then they would have whined too.

Everyone is too damm PC. Lighten up!!

  • As a native american from north dakota - and as a former und student - i find that this was very offensive to not only the sioux tribe but to native tribes everywhere. they deserve to be punished... if you post pics like these on facebook or myspace... more than likely they will be published. shheeeesh!

  • Ignorant little creeps. When they come to theuniversity they already have there preconcieved notions about Native People spoon feed to them by there family and community.

  • if them ladies wanted to be Sioux soo bad, I suppose I could hook them up for 1 night only!! It'll b super official. NO MEN THOUGH!! JUST FEMALES ONLY!! lol

  • I didn't know men were allowed to be members of all female sororities. Oh wait....

  • your an idiot.

These men were clearly guests of females in the sorority.

  • ignorant bastards. Respect American Indians, don't use their heritage and customs to make a mockery at parties.

  • that would be your comment on ancient greeks, geejennie

  • The chicks aren't that offensive but the guys look like real morons. The short guy in various pics (2:37) looks native.

  • First off, "rjwidhalm" this incident took place at UND in Grand Forks, NDSU does not have a Gamma Phi chapter, however, Moorhead does. Who's the moron now? Moving on, I really like everyones comments, please take this into consideration. The logo issue at UND has been an ongoing issue for many years. If the sorority theme party took place at any other school, there would have been no problem with it. The chapter should have known better, especially since they neighbor the American Indian center.

  • You really don't think this party would have caused an uproar anywhere else but UND? I saw footage on CNN in the past year of another sorority/fraterniy "ho's and pimps" party at a school where I don't believe the mascot was either a ho or a pimp. The fact that so many of you students take an "aw, shucks, we were just having fun" stance on this shows how sheltered you are and how little you've experienced of the rest of the world. Time to grow up and open your eyes, kiddies....

  • It was at NDSU, not UND you moron...

  • Yes, I can see where all the ancient greeks on campus would be offended by toga parties. Sheesh.

  • that's classic geejennie

  • no one gets all up in arms over toga parties. They are just as offensive as this.

  • i also do not see anything wrong with this. as the article in the herald said it was meant to be a cowboy party and some people chose to dress up like that and also all i see is pictures of like the same couple of people in those pictures and not like hundreds like the article and video makes it sounds like its goin to be

  • Whoever broke the story to the Herald was a real ass. Then they post pictures on this website. Come on, get a life.

  • Ignorant little creeps. When they come to the university they already have there preconcieved notions about Native People spoon feed to them by there family and community.

  • ok you guys need to get a life!!! first of all this is a free speech issue! and you shouldn't punish a whole sorority for something a couple of people did! first of all there is nothing incriminating about this! lets focus on some real problems in the world and leave these awesome chicks alone!!! this is just a small but overly publicized indiscretion! and these pictures were illegally obtained in the first place! so all of you "offended" (or just have nothing better to bitch about) get a life!!

  • In response to your "you shouldn't punish a whole sorority" comment, being in a sorority means taking responsibility for ALL of your sisters and their actions. So punishing everyone for something a few people did actually makes sense, because you shouldn't be allowing your sisters to do something that will tarnish the reputation or offend people.

  • I mean that its the guys that were dressed up that i could see as being offensive...the girls bought their costumes from a store in grand forks so then their costumes can't be too offensive if they are available at your local store!

  • the fact of the matter is the president at the time is trying to play this off as "it was a cowboy party" and is quoted as saying "we cannot control what people wear". Everyone is playing it off as their guests did it, and you can see several of their girls dressed up.

I am a Fraternity man at UND and I can say that I would be embarrassed and ashamed with my brothers if they dressed and allowed their 'guests to act this way'.

  • also 1 more thing.....since when is it okay for a University organization to promote disrespect and allow humiliation of a culture in our country by themselves or their guests.

  • The fact that this was posted and someone is trying to make the situation worse than what it is, is ridiculous. Yeah the sorority screwed up and they are paying for it now. To say that students disrespect the logo is a lie... This was ignorance on the sorority's part and the guys that took it to the next level a fucking morons but we all make mistakes.

  • I feel that this party was a bad idea from the start, however these pictures do not show anything very incriminating in these photos in my eyes, I believe that taking these Girls social abilities away is a very sensible and fair punishment in my eyes. Do NOT take this video out of context however and say that a couple of drunk undergrads represent the entire views of the student body towards natives as other items on the internet would so suggest.

  • This is ridiculous. Do we not have anything else to think about in our country than a harmless theme party?? How about we start thinking about the presidential election than filing complaints? WHOEVER POSTED THIS VIDEO....GET A LIFE! Honestly, who would take the time to gather up these photos and make a video about it..seriously.

  • Harmless? Guess you must be white. What's next, a Hitler theme party to offend Jews? A blackface/ afro wig party to offend the African Americans? those are harmless theme parties too?

  • As a native from north dakota i do not see anything wrong withthis i also see a few naties in the pics and i find that more white people are upset about things like this then natives do any of you get up set when white people dress up like they are from the hood/ no so stop tryying to find a cuz to jump on and leave the kids alon

  • Let's discuss lame - how about that mascot used by Florida State. Just because a few idiots at the Gamma Phi house ( and they are definitely idiots for having posted those pictures on the internet) act stupid, it does not define the actions of the entire campus. I am sure the Native American community does not wish to be defined by the actions of one or two members who act stupid. As such, s UND should not be defined by such actions.

  • I love how when a few people dress up it automatically assumes all the students are that way.
