1. lets say i purchase komplete 8. would i use the "kontakt player" as you are right here to hear everything??

@1Stretta1beats1 kontakt player is the free version of kontakt, kontakt plays back sample based instruments. Not everything in Komplete runs through kontakt, there are other instruments and synths in it. Yes you need a DAW to make use of komplete. Unless you are just playing out live and don't plan on recording any of your music.

Hi there, great review.

How do you set kontakt to a "one shot" sampler. You know when you trigger a sample and it still continues even while not pressing the key anymore.

I read the manual and it says go to sample loop in the wave editor, and select one shot. But it didn't help. Do you please have a clue?

@MrJoeFlat that's exactly where you do it at. Once you load a wave, open the instrument to the wave editor, set the loop mode from the drop down menu to oneshot.

@ikechukwu0303 you play different tracks through different midi channels, in cubase you'd setup a different midi track for each midi channel, then put each sound you load on a different midi channel.

@777kayfo make sure you have your audio output setup in kontakt, also make sure you have an instrument loaded. You also need to make sure you have your keyboard set as the midi input.

@iamshunie it's a sampler, people use other DAWs and want access to the huge libraries as well as features of Kontakt. Maschine has nothing to do with it, Kontakt has been around way before Maschine existed. This isn't kontakt player, it's the full version of kontakt, the point in buying it is for people that use it...the world of production doesn't revolve around Maschine lol.

Hey again :P im recording some tracks on Ableton, using FM8 in the channels nr 1,2,3,4...but the problem is that i cant play simultaniously all the recorded loops that i recorded in the same way, with FM8 from the other channels...for example i have 4 channels with 4 loops created in FM8 in the same line and verse, but when i hit the button play the intro im just aloud to play the channel marked the Arm Session Recording button may be some channel assignation but how can i do thisCan you help?:D

@Miroslawsnketr not sure if that makes sense, you should be able to play them all at once unless you have it muted. Did you load fm 8 on 4 separate tracks? Should work. Are your loops side by side or on top of each other? if they are side by side it will work, if they are on top of each other they are in the same track and only one will play at a time.

You don't need any multi channel setup to use multiple instances of fm8, it's just like loading it 4 times on 4 different channels. It should be working unless the other channels have been muted.

@Miroslawsnketr not sure what you're asking, multi channel setup for kontakt has nothing to do with the problem you were having, it's just a way to load contact once then point several tracks to different midi channels in Kontakt to trigger different sounds.

@Miroslawsnketr Kontakt doesn't read ableton live programs, but sampler can read kontakt format instruments. I don't use Tracktor Pro so I don't know if it opens vst plugins or not. Just open Kontakt as a plugin in Ableton and sequence it.

@Miroslawsnketr other companies make libraries for kontakt, if they make instruments that are "powered by kontakt" then they will also show up as libraries in Kontakt. Native Instruments has instruments like scarbee pre bass, vintage keys, their pianos, evolve mutations, etc...that will show up as well. So it's just other libraries that people have purchased :)

Comparing the sound quality of the two, which has more natural acoustic sounds - Komplete 6 (Kontakt 4) or the Yamaha Motif XS? I know one of these is hardware and the other is soft, but I am looking into purchasing one that sounds the best in the acoustic category? I'm leaning more towards the Motif b/c I was able to demo it in Guitar Center and it sounds fantastic but I haven't heard the acoustics in kontakt 4. I just wanna make sure that I am getting the best for money!!

@prettdboy that's a pretty personal choice, I think the sounds in Kontakt are more natural than the motif, I had been set on getting a motif or another fantom, but after trying them out at the beginning of the year, I felt I had way more sounds that were more realistic in Kontakt. The thing about Kontakt, you can also buy specialized libraries from other companies, to get even more realistic sounds. I just felt the price of a workstation could be better spent in more libraries for Kontakt lol.

Okay, But how is it on cpu?! I have a macbook (aluminum) with a 2.4ghz duo core processor 4gb of ram and 250gb hard drive. Will it tax my cpu when I use it inside of ableton live 8?!! @prettdboy cpu isn't bad in my experience, of course the more fx you use the more cpu. Motif with the mlan is a dope option, you get 16 channels of audio and mid through firewire...effectively turning your motif into a plugin lol. I'm not saying the motif is bad, it's a dope workstation, I just personally have a hard time justifying the price now days. But it's definitely got speed on it's side, since you can switch through sounds very quickly

okay, kontakt player and kontakt are two different instruments. If you have komplete 6 you will have the full version of kontakt and it comes with the entire kontakt library as well as other native instruments plugins.

well my akai sounds import fine, haven't tried ensoniq and I know the kontakt player can't actually import but i think when you try to import sounds it goes into the full Kontakt demo mode for 30 minutes.

you don't need kontakt player for komplete 6, komplete 6 comes with the full version of kontakt as well as other plugins. But you can't open their plugins inside maschine if that's what you mean.

@ajaomusic you can use komplete six inside of your daw and use maschine inside the daw as a vst. You can't open vsts inside Maschine...thought we've been asking for it lol, we'll see if they ever do it. Not sure who told you that you could use vst in Maschine, but they lied to you. Now if you just want to use the controller as a midi controller you can do that, but you won't have a way to record the stuff unless you open them up in a daw.

it comes with some free instruments, but it can also play any "powered by kontakt" instrument. Keep in mind this isn't the same as "kontakt format". Basically any product that comes with a version of kontakt player will work with it, if it just says it's in kontakt format then it probably requires the full version.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. Do you just want to playback midi files? Then most sound cards can handle that. If you want to create your own, you need a sequencing program that can create midi. Reason, Live, Flstudio, Sonar, Energy XT, StudioOne, stuff like that.

Digital is more of a "pure tone"

Back in the day a hardware sampler costs $1k- 2k

But then came along software costs of a $100-up.

But now that the hardware has gone the software went up higher.

Today you can buy a high quality hardware sampler for the price of software samplers.

what's your reason for choosing an s5000 over kontakt? lol. In my experience, most software samplers are vastly superior to hard rackmounts from years past. Unless it's an older vintage sampler that has a specific sound character you like, I don't see the point. For me, it's not so much about price, but about workflow, and compatibility. Software offers more options in my opinion, and I was a die hard hardware guy. I say use what let's u be the most creative, it's all good lol

I have the z4/z8 engine inside the 4k so I know it's powerful, but there isn't anything it does that I can't do with Kontakt. But I mainly just use it for sample playback and it can read tons of formats. The s5/6k are powerful, very clean sounding too, so I was just wondering what it was you loved about it, I knew it wasn't a "dirty" sound so to speak. Pleas share yo!
