mates of state plays "cute" music with poppy drum beats. this is more like jazz with drum fillers filling up every ounce of sound leaving no gaps with melodic rythems and unpredictible changes. in my humble opinion. they are nothing alike. other then the obvious fact that only two members exist in both bands.

As previously stated by kidaok00, Pattern Is Movements songs are much more rooted in jazz. Theyre signature changes also dethrone the validity of your statement. Just my opinion though.

i guess sorry for sounding so angry, just all these obsolete titles created by people pain me to no ends - as if donning something with an "innovative" title is any reflection of the music. anyways, "math-jazz" is redundant as all hell because "math" denotes complex progression and intricate melodies, which is essentially synonymous with jazz.
