I saw Blackjack defend the US title against Jones at the Cumberland County Memorial Arena in Fayetteville NC. Jones was covered in blood by the end when Blackjack grabbed the belt and ran away to the dressing room letting Jones get the DQ win.
Wow! Thanks so much for posting this -- that's the start of Blackjack's first reign as U.S. Champion. I was a huge Mulligan mark and was ecstatic when he showed on on TV with the belt - and just a few states away, George South was so devastated he couldn't go to school! :)
Ah, for the days you could get a crowd screaming just by climbing to the top rope. :)
