Actually the exact translation of "le bébé est merde" is "the baby is shit" and that sound quite strange in french. But I love them even when slaughter french language ! Long live F&S !

Exactly. I'm Spanish. And it will be "Señora, el bebé está muerto..." . In French shit and death sounds very similar. I think that French and Saunders did it for this reason

I a supernumerary and it's true - we mutter all sorts of things to each other onstage, along with the chorus, lol. I once had to wipe a spill off the floor and I was laughing so hard while I crawled along the stage (hidden from the audience by a tablecloth on a table) I thought I'd pee in my pants. I'm glad I didn't because I would've had to wipe that up too...

I took what she said to mean, "Madam, the baby is shit." And that Dawn's character used the wrong French word "merde"(shit)instead of "mort"(dead), because she tells Jennifer that she has a dead baby, "Good for weeping and wailing."
