This video brought back memories of my youth where I squandered countless hours playing Accolade's Test Drive II, driving supercars on public roads. Thanks for sharing
doesn't sound like a 12 cylinder, If the dudes are driving around on the streets it must be a Replica, guess with a flat six porsche engine... Nice work!!!!
There was a European Count that had one legalized in Alabama, USA in the '70s, although he lived and drove the car in Europe. It had the full comp spec 600 HP engine, although it had a few minor mods like turn signals to make it a "street car". He did limit the final drive to 170 mph instead of the Le Mans ratio of 240 mph, guess that was his way of resisting temptation!!
Is it possible to drive in this 917 on a track of your choosing?? How much are you asking for this opportunity?? I am willing to pay for the privilage. Paul.materazzo@gmail.com
no it isnt because most of the time wealth and intelligence are directly correlated excluding academics and not all academics are that intelligent... money is rather important and being able to obtain enough to live out your dreams is no easy feat..... and being the child of a wealthy person is clearly not the same thing although you are far more likely to be intelligent and well educated when coming from wealth so its a rather fair generalization and mostly will prove accurate...
@ghibli05 No, man, nothing to do with "green khmers" or any "politically correct"... My eldest son was killed in a car crash a few months ago, he was passenger of such a crazy driver... I hope you'll understand...
@ladangelo202 This is the stupidest answer I've ever read !... You can be a millionnaire and yet be a f... dumb ass... By the way, my eldest son was killed in a car crash 1 year ago... The little piece of shit who drove the fatal car was drunk and drove much too fast, but he was rich and came from a rich family... They had probably "worked hard enough" to buy a fast car... So please next time think a little before you write, thanx
This was made in Australia and is powered by a normally aspirated Porsche flat six with a vertical cooling fan. I'm considering buying one or a 906 or a 906, can't decide yet.
yes I know my 917's I could tell instantly this was not the flat 12, no matter how close a replica makes them, without that flat 12, its always gonna be sub par in my opinion
Fantastic video - lovely sound even though it's "only" a flat-6 :) Where was the video shot? The roads look excellent for driving. I read somewhere that you own two replicas and one real 917? If that's true, you are a lucky lucky man :) Cheers!!
The engine sound is nice, but I doub't that this is a true-blue 917. If I am not mistaken, just 17 cars were ever buit. Even McQueen couldn't put his hands in one; he drove a "dressed up" 908.
Many of the cars from the film were genuine 917's, but the one from the famous crash scene was (as Testacojones said) a Lola T70 with a 917 suit on. Probably because your feet were behind the front wheels in a T70 - they weren't in a 917. 917 drivers were known to go to extroadinary lengths to avoid crashing front first...
Yes there were some real 917 cars in the movie, but whatever 917 and Ferrari 512 they crashed were Lola T70s dressed up. For the big crash the car was remote control and it needed two people to control it. They messed up and crashed the car while filming, but the crash was so good that they kept it just like that for the film. Oh and Steve did drive a 917, I might be wrong but I think that he only did 120mph during the movie. Good to see how fans the 917 has all over the world.
the lmk 917 porsche is not the 917 from the 60-70. the lmks are built in austria as an exact replica of the car, except the engine, wich you have to put in by yourself
Just think the old course at the Nerbergring is narrower than this road and cars like the 917 were touching over 200 on the fast bits and thats before they placed the crash barriers in the wooded sections.
They never cancelled races then due to heavy rain and certain parts of the Ring atract water like a magnet.
Those were the true racing days not like todays multi million pound computer operated joke LIKE THE mALAYSIAN gRAND pRIX.
where did you get your info? because both cars can reach speeds of over 400km/h and as far as I know the 917 still holds the fastest lemans victory in 1971. I tried to check the lemans history on the website and didn't mention the mazda 787B as the fastest, but maybe they didn't change. Do you mean overall speed of the car or the fastest victory in lemans?
The Mazda 787B had turbo engine,a thing that 917 didn't have, and it isn't alone as fastest race car. You can't forget the Dauer Porsche 962,Le Mans 1994 winner, that can-in the street version- hit more than 400 km/h too(407 km/h to be more accurate).
Call Vasek Polak in Hermosa Bch Ca.He has passed but i believe his sons run the dealership if its still there. You might be able to buy one outright if they still have any.

the 787B is NOT TURBO.
its 2.6L 4 rotors engine. on Mazda's racetrack, Myogi proving ground they got the car up to speed around 437 km/h.
