They were the cause of the black Nike socks worn with shorts trend that was big where I lived back in the mid 90s. Just about every kid and teen of all races wore them. First it was the long ones with Nike spelled out, then the long ones with the check only, then people started wearing the short ones. Hell people today still wear black socks with shorts, something that "cool" people just didn't do before the fab five.

I'll preface by saying I was a Sr at Mich when Fab 5 arrived in '92. Now a story abt J Howard. Fast forward to '98. I was with my premature twins in the hospital nursery; and in came JH to visit his own newborn. I tentatively approached him, telling him we went to school together (we didn't know each other). He understandably could have asked for privacy but instead we reminisced for over an hour at 11 at night. Something I'll never forget.
