@EnigmaHood Mechanically, it is nowhere near as simple as a typical revolver. Probably the most important point for a service/carry gun is reliability, and complexity is a factor in reliability. It's very mechanically complex, and large. You could, of course, carry it for personal defense, if you wish, but remember that you trust your life to any defense weapon, and you must trust it absolutely.
@magicoddeffect It's not as simple, but that doesn't mean it's unreliable. Looks like you can cycle the barrels manually if you had to, but it's still a revolver so it can't jam like an automatic can.
Hey LifeSizePotato, I'm trying real hard to buy one of these, and I know they can only be getting more and more rare. Any tips on finding one? Great review by the way.
@pyrodiablo7 Thanks for the comment. They are pretty hard to find at the moment. I watch Gunbroker and I haven't seen many in the last few months (there is one that's been there for a while that's WAY overpriced). My tip is to just search Gunbroker (or Auction Arms or Gunsamerica) every day and hope that an Unica comes up. You can also search Google using the phrase "wts mateba" or "fs mateba" and limit your results to Discussions and From the Past Week. Good luck!
That's the one I have always wanted. was able to shoot one years ago, and strangely enough I was able to bump fire the 44 Mag revolver for 2 rounds fairly easy. just wish they still made the Mateba
I recently got a Unica exactly like the one in your video. Please please get some snap caps for that thing, the firing pins have a tendency to overtravel and could damage themselves. Also, I've been having some problems with the cylinder over rotating, especially when firing in double action. I'm wondering if this is a common problem, or if the piece I got is just more worn or less cared for than most. Other than being overly Italian, these are awesome guns.
@cpnxerxes You're 100% right about dry firing Matebas. I got mine LNIB and it even had a warning about dry firing it. I was actually a little uneasy letting the hammer drop in the video because of breakage concerns, but I'm hoping those few times won't hurt it too badly. FWIW, the video documented the first and last times I'll pull the trigger without at least a snap cap. ;-)
Mine hasn't over-rotated like you describe in the 100 rounds I've fired, and I haven't heard of that being an issue.
Mateba's are ridiculously rare and expensive. I don't know how this guy has managed to get three of them

Can you modify to make it a .50 cal. Revolver

You mentioned that this weapon is impractical. Out of curiosity, how is it impractical compared to other revolvers?
