This game kicked my ass.I could barely make it through level 1 without using up half of my lives.I remember, that the game shipped with a cassette version of 'Tracks of my tears' by Smoky Robinson. Great movie too.
Ive commented on lots of platoon commodore footage over the last coupla years-and Il say it again- this game was great. All I need to do is to see and hear things like this and BOOM- Im right back in my old room infront of the black and white telly with this playing. I only made it to the tunnels-the music of which was stuff of legend and memory. The c64tunes return me to lost days of innocence-a place in my mind Im always happy to go to.
Such a great C64 game which was ruined with sadistic difficulty. There should have been difficulty setting and password system to access other levels once you finished them. I rarely made past 1st level.
So awesome to see this game after so many years. So pissed that I could never get to the second level! My game would freeze when I entered the trap door!!! AHHH!!!!
Man this it the jam right here! I had this song in my head last night, but couldn't remember the game. Combed through the titles of C64 games on wikipedia and here I am.
Anyone have some sheet music for this? Not too hard I know, but would love to see it.
@djsmithy Yes, you can convert it to MIDI, but it doesn't convert to the correct tempo. I did a cover of the NES version which is the same exact thing. I could convert it to sheet music if I had a program for it.
@Roozbeh72 hahaha thats what i was about to say..... i used to love the tunnel level and the level upon emerging from the tunnel, firing the flares from the foxhole and having to work seriously hard to resist the foxhole from been over-run by gooks. Never completed it though, i used to get lossed on that forth level :(
the good old loading screen :) What a pain in the arse that was. Still though its amazing the amount of memorable games that were on the C64 and what they used to do with those 64 bits! Some classic stuff:) Thanks for the vid!
this game was very well developed. crisp and detailed graphics, fluid animation and brilliant music, also the game had good controls,. so only one thing annoys me about this game,..its so good that it shows that most c64 games were done by lazy programmers.all c64 games should have been done with this quality
@stevensantosss: Same here! Don't ask me to try and draw a map or anything, but even 15 years on since I last played it I can still find the bomb and the village by memory/instinct alone. Weird, isn't it? How it just sticks in your brain after all this time?
The game was great. I played this game on the SNES when I was a kid. Then in about 2004 I found a C64 emulator. And I was like "what the hell?" The C64 version looks MUCH better than the SNES and you can't even compare the sound with the snes version because the music in that game on Commodore is just astounding. One of the greatest games ever. I can only compare this game to FarCry.
I love and hate this game had it as a kid the graphics and sound were xcellent but 2 fuckin hard this things a maze y is there no clue as to where you need 2 go everything looks the same have you beat it????
I beat it using game saves on an emulator alright,
i.e cheating ;),
but back in the day i had a bad copy of this game on tape, and it wouldnt load passed the 1st level for me. I had the 2nd level on a demo tape, so realisticly i only beat the 1st and 2nd level.
I have yet to beat the last level straight through with no game saves.
Yeah I loved this game, the challenge was unbelievable!
Designed to reflect the vietnam war toughness I guess.
Those pumpin' tunes got me right back in the groove though!
There were maps available for this game in the C64 magazines back then. That's what I used. Without cheating I could get to the final level but it was fcking solid to reach Barnes in the foxhole. I never could make it.
@djsmithy I hit the emulator, and was able to play the entire game through on muscle memory. Just came to me, I was able to play the whole way through on autopilot! Mad.
Damn , last time i played this was like 20 years ago and i never knew wtf i needed to do.
And after 20 years watching this and see , wtf i could do on this game when i was 7 y/o?? always died because those jumpers or grenades on the floor or those guys opening a damn door from the floor.
even to this day, with all the xboxs, playstations and wiis, this game was a classic and will be tough to beat. so simple, but so cool. and i hate to agree with the masses, but the music was the business
Oh my god the good old days. I remember I got bought the movies package for christmas from tandy when i was about 6 or 7. It came with, amongst others, rambo 3, this, and miami vice but they were all really hard i never completed one! the music is so damn good I'm gonna try and get this on my ipod and use it in the gym - imagine how pumped I'll get - an 80s pump. remember this wisdom - ctrl, shift, and delete (or was it enter?) PRESS PLAY ON TAPE
I was growing up playing this game. I was 5 or 6 when I first played it. I loved it. I couldn't finish it, though. I loved the music, and still love it now : )
I was like 10 or 11 when I got this game. The music jams. I never made it past the 3rd level. It was pretty hard. I could probably finish it now that I'm 31.
Me on the contrary, what I used to beat when I was little, now I can't pass even the first stages of it. These old games were insanely hard. No memory cards, no nothing.
i loved this game. can't believe there's a 'worst games ever' vid of it on here! whats that all about? i still think this is a good game. also someone said earlier about how great it felt when u got to the lighter part of the jungle. couldn't agree more!!

Hi Lord, theres a sid2midi program you can get, that will convert the tune to midi format.
And from the midi file you can get the score. Can help you with it if you like.

AvalancheO 2 years ago
By shooting the civilians are by getting shot too many times.
I think there was a bug with the morale meter in the original game, but the one of the cracking groups fixed it!
Happy days, when crackers would actually add code to make a game work! :)

The contrast seems a bit weird on WinVice actually, CCS64 seems to have a nicer colour palette, must try and use that palette in Winvice soon.
