  • I love the music!!!

  • This game kicked my ass.I could barely make it through level 1 without using up half of my lives.I remember, that the game shipped with a cassette version of 'Tracks of my tears' by Smoky Robinson. Great movie too.

  • used to love this game... and the music was spot on!!!!

  • Ive commented on lots of platoon commodore footage over the last coupla years-and Il say it again- this game was great. All I need to do is to see and hear things like this and BOOM- Im right back in my old room infront of the black and white telly with this playing. I only made it to the tunnels-the music of which was stuff of legend and memory. The c64tunes return me to lost days of innocence-a place in my mind Im always happy to go to.

  • Such a great C64 game which was ruined with sadistic difficulty. There should have been difficulty setting and password system to access other levels once you finished them. I rarely made past 1st level.

  • cool game and glorius music! Dunn rules...

  • the hardest game of all time ...man the game was so hard for me but i like this game

  • Check out the metal cover of this track,

search for Platoon C64 metal cover!

  • so genius this music ,.....very nice tune !! Cool Game !!

  • So awesome to see this game after so many years. So pissed that I could never get to the second level! My game would freeze when I entered the trap door!!! AHHH!!!!

  • 2 yars since my last comment and it still rocks.. dyum!!! =)

  • i have a commodore at my house :)

  • Man this it the jam right here! I had this song in my head last night, but couldn't remember the game. Combed through the titles of C64 games on wikipedia and here I am.

Anyone have some sheet music for this? Not too hard I know, but would love to see it.

  • @LordCuze

Hi Lord, theres a sid2midi program you can get, that will convert the tune to midi format.

And from the midi file you can get the score. Can help you with it if you like.

  • @djsmithy

Ah, thanks for the info! I'll check it out.

  • @djsmithy Yes, you can convert it to MIDI, but it doesn't convert to the correct tempo. I did a cover of the NES version which is the same exact thing. I could convert it to sheet music if I had a program for it.

  • @LordCuze check out Castle Master's music..also from this age...u will love it!!!

  • !!!!!!!!! i love this music !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OMG ... I remember every turn I had to make! Thanks

  • @Roozbeh72 hahaha thats what i was about to say..... i used to love the tunnel level and the level upon emerging from the tunnel, firing the flares from the foxhole and having to work seriously hard to resist the foxhole from been over-run by gooks. Never completed it though, i used to get lossed on that forth level :(

    NEEDS TO BE REMADE!!!

  • Compared to the NES version, this one seems at least remotely playable. Better music and graphics, too.

  • the good old loading screen :) What a pain in the arse that was. Still though its amazing the amount of memorable games that were on the C64 and what they used to do with those 64 bits! Some classic stuff:) Thanks for the vid!

  • thnx, brings back times i played this repeatedly, now its time to go look for this game again.

  • this is one of my favorite games, but its very hard

  • I admit I never finished the game (too hard) but I made it to level 3

  • its a bit back then like contra for c64... but if we think of it, maybe thats was first... i dunno :D Oh damn i missing that times ^^ :D

  • this looks great - i mean compared with other c64 games^^

  • The first level music is amazing and unforgetable! :D

    When I hear it,I feel like a jungle-style hunter! :)

  • Wich version is better? Commodore 64 or nintendo?

  • The game was too hard for me but loved the music!

  • ENTERING THE COMBAT ZONE...

  • Great game!

  • Is there even a way to affect the morale?

  • By shooting the civilians are by getting shot too many times.

I think there was a bug with the morale meter in the original game, but the one of the cracking groups fixed it!

Happy days, when crackers would actually add code to make a game work! :)

  • @djsmithy I vaguely recall it working for me onceand lossing due to a low morale bar. I think. It was over twenty years ago....

  • this game was very well developed. crisp and detailed graphics, fluid animation and brilliant music, also the game had good controls,. so only one thing annoys me about this game,..its so good that it shows that most c64 games were done by lazy programmers.all c64 games should have been done with this quality

  • the map is still engraved into my head , i could list on my job resume that i can get to the bomb in lvl1 without a problem ... haha

  • @stevensantosss: Same here! Don't ask me to try and draw a map or anything, but even 15 years on since I last played it I can still find the bomb and the village by memory/instinct alone. Weird, isn't it? How it just sticks in your brain after all this time?

  • if u don't get that job on wall street with that impressive resume..

  • The video game is good, and I played this as a kid, but the movie is better in my opinion.

  • what a comparison. lulzery!

  • The game was great. I played this game on the SNES when I was a kid. Then in about 2004 I found a C64 emulator. And I was like "what the hell?" The C64 version looks MUCH better than the SNES and you can't even compare the sound with the snes version because the music in that game on Commodore is just astounding. One of the greatest games ever. I can only compare this game to FarCry.

  • I love and hate this game had it as a kid the graphics and sound were xcellent but 2 fuckin hard this things a maze y is there no clue as to where you need 2 go everything looks the same have you beat it????

  • I beat it using game saves on an emulator alright,

    i.e cheating ;),

but back in the day i had a bad copy of this game on tape, and it wouldnt load passed the 1st level for me. I had the 2nd level on a demo tape, so realisticly i only beat the 1st and 2nd level.

I have yet to beat the last level straight through with no game saves.

  • @preydog1

Yeah I loved this game, the challenge was unbelievable!

Designed to reflect the vietnam war toughness I guess.

Those pumpin' tunes got me right back in the groove though!

There were maps available for this game in the C64 magazines back then. That's what I used. Without cheating I could get to the final level but it was fcking solid to reach Barnes in the foxhole. I never could make it.

  • @AmidLightningWheels

Another irish user has level 3 up if you want to check it out.

I had a fault copy of this game, so i never played level 3 as a kid,

and I only beat it using save states the few times ive played it.

I should really try and beat it to have a complete collection on youtube though.

  • @djsmithy I hit the emulator, and was able to play the entire game through on muscle memory. Just came to me, I was able to play the whole way through on autopilot! Mad.

  • @rnrbishop

Congrats! Wish i had a real copy of the game back then to see if i could have cleared it!

  • this game was so hard but i like this game

  • I had to play this on a black and white screen and could never see the tripwires, lol.

  • hahaha...like the game wasn't frustrating enough from before..

  • first time i seen this coz this game never bludy loaded on my 64

  • same here

  • Damn , last time i played this was like 20 years ago and i never knew wtf i needed to do.

And after 20 years watching this and see , wtf i could do on this game when i was 7 y/o?? always died because those jumpers or grenades on the floor or those guys opening a damn door from the floor.

  • wow ! what memories ! :)

  • Amazing musics

  • Shit to you yes, not shit to most though! :D

  • Amazing game, love the music!

  • this game was really hard

  • wow what a game this was, loved the music too. one of the few 8 bit games i got quite far on

  • The music rules.

The only thing I hated was level 1 was this gigantic fucking maze. Took me forever to figure it out as a kid, I had to make my own maps.

Other than that, the game was great. I even have the shit NES version but can't stand it. I always go back to the beloved C64 version.

  • What you talk, when you die?

    AHHHHHH!!! ?

In german you call him "RACHE"

    (Revenge)

  • RACHHHEEE!!!

  • RACZI!!!!

  • Load"*",8,1 = alotofun at those days

  • even to this day, with all the xboxs, playstations and wiis, this game was a classic and will be tough to beat. so simple, but so cool. and i hate to agree with the masses, but the music was the business

  • wow! like i read al lthe comments before i wached the video and u guys werent kidding this music is AWESUM! lol

  • once heard the music, ull never forget - great!

  • Totally true pal, sometimes when i'am watching the movie itself this music always creeps into my head sometimes.

  • What you call, when you die?

In German you understand "Rache" revenge

  • damn, those viet cong booby traps!

  • the thing that allways sticks out to me from platoon the film is that the charlie sheen character is only 19!

its based on a true story aswell he went through all that and is merley a child!

  • the average age of vets coming back after a tour of duty from vietnam was 19 the Martin Sheen character was not unique...

  • Yep. And listen to the song "19" by Harold Faltermeyer.

  • agreed

  • Hell yeah the music rules!

  • Oh my god the good old days. I remember I got bought the movies package for christmas from tandy when i was about 6 or 7. It came with, amongst others, rambo 3, this, and miami vice but they were all really hard i never completed one! the music is so damn good I'm gonna try and get this on my ipod and use it in the gym - imagine how pumped I'll get - an 80s pump. remember this wisdom - ctrl, shift, and delete (or was it enter?) PRESS PLAY ON TAPE

  • @edwardhonda

    Ctl, Shift and enter :D

  • The music is so awesome!

  • OMG this was my favorite game when I was young!!! This bring back memories! C64 rules!!!

  • I was growing up playing this game. I was 5 or 6 when I first played it. I loved it. I couldn't finish it, though. I loved the music, and still love it now : )

  • in the good old times they knew how to make good games.. and good game musics =)tears are running my cheeks while watchin this. =)

  • We have one hardcore fan of the game here folks!

Really glad you enjoyed the video man, thanks for the comment. :)

  • Truer words never spoken. Absolute classic.

  • those trip wires were a bastard

  • I was like 10 or 11 when I got this game. The music jams. I never made it past the 3rd level. It was pretty hard. I could probably finish it now that I'm 31.

  • Me on the contrary, what I used to beat when I was little, now I can't pass even the first stages of it. These old games were insanely hard. No memory cards, no nothing.

  • I know. If you mess up you have to start all over. Aw the beauty of memory cards. It's technically cheating. But who really cares. :-)

  • i loved this game. can't believe there's a 'worst games ever' vid of it on here! whats that all about? i still think this is a good game. also someone said earlier about how great it felt when u got to the lighter part of the jungle. couldn't agree more!!

  • That video is of the Nintendo version!

The gameplay on the nintendo version is slow and poor but the graphics look a bit nicer.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • yeah from what i saw of that it looks shocking

  • The great thing about the site is that, you can get a listen to a paticular remix, before deciding to download it. The Last Ninja games had brilliant tunes, that I still blast out today-and some of the remixes on there are amazing.

Another one worth mentioning is the Rambo first blood part 2 Loading music,as well as a brilliant version of the Myth loading music.

On the Amiga 500 side, the Turrican, and Shadow of the Beast games had awesome music, and you should hear remixes of those too!!

  • Have you ever heard the remixes of c64 tunes, from remix.64? Brilliant reworkings of great c64 game music. Theres excellent renditions of this paticular tune, alongside a very atmospheric reworking of the "Tunnels" theme.

My favourite on there is the "evil mix" of last ninja 2s basement level. Awesome!!!

  • Ive checked out some but i dont think ive heard platoon remixes!

Thanks for the tip, will check those 2 out!

  • this version of the music has a nice war-drum sound with the beat. not to mention the synth-line sounds like a classic 80's action film. i give it a 5/5 ^_^

  • Hehe cheers! I spent too mucht time playing this, both as child an as an adult!

  • This is soooo much better than the NES version. The music has more punch, the graphics are better and the gameplay is much less frustrating.

I still remember the way through the jungle.

Oh, man.. Getting to that lighter part of the jungle was amazing. The NES version doesn't have the same contrast between the darker and the lighter part so I never get the same rush from it.

  • Haha, its funny what you say about the rush, i remember getting the same when i found the brighter part!

The contrast seems a bit weird on WinVice actually, CCS64 seems to have a nicer colour palette, must try and use that palette in Winvice soon.

have you seen what happens if you get to the bridge without the explosives?

Scared the shit out of me the othernight, i was like wtf!

    Ill upload it now actually.

  • I thought it's not possible to get to the bridge without first getting the explosives.

  • I didnt realise it myself until i was fooling around a few days ago.

    The video is up now!

  • bah, the quality sucks in this one,

Must try a re-up or even a remake.

  • no, no! this was great!
