I had to go out the day after the storm to turn in my Gold Award project in on Lexington Rd. It was a mess! & it took us about an hour to get to the office!
Lived 2 blocks from there on Barrett Ave. Tons of damage on Cherokee Rd. We lost power for a week and a half and I was only about a mile from downtown!
I remember this. Then we had that crazy ice storm the next year. Now, there might be flooding, a lot of snow, and or freezing rain this week. Kentucky has the craziest weather.
I live in the Highlands, and we're ALWAYS the first to get hit.. I will NEVER forget all the trees and damage I saw..hearing trees snap; i'll never forget the chills I had from that day.. Fear I've never experienced before.
I had to drive from Louisville to Bowling Green during the height of the windstorm, or just as the storm was beginning to climax. A couple times it tried to blow me off the road. As I was passing the large building just to the east of 65 in Bullitt County just south of the Bullitt/Jefferson county line, I saw the roof being peeled off of it. After seeing that, I realized just how dangerous this was. Passing semi tractor trailers was really scary. Why did I pass them? I have no sense.
Ike was more widespread, but '74 had to be worse because of all of the destruction it caused to houses directly, and not just as a result of falling trees or flying debris.
I wasn't even at home when this happened. It was my brothers b-day and we were at Chuck-e-cheese... the power went out in there and it got real hot real fast.
I go down Eastern Parkway every single day, I know that street by heart. I eat at Kaleins (sp.) every now, it wasn't badly damaged by Ike which is good.
Yeah I was in KY when that happen I live in Houston now ha... Shit that was Badass... But anyway I like that lil comment you said... "HaHa Take that Local news I'm filming you now"
LOL this was on my birthday. I had my party the day before in a hotel sleepover and on the way home it started. IT WAS SCARY! We didn't have power for 8 days. But my friend slept over like 4 nights in a row. the only good thing was no school!
I agree! What was weird for us is that we're in the center of the country and we still had hurricane level gusts, something we've never experienced here. My heart really goes out to those that really caught the brunt of this storm.
I hadn't heard about that yet, but I'm very sorry to hear it now. Linemen electricians have one of the most dangerous jobs there is. Those guys and gals really deserve our respect and thanks.
i live iin audubon city and ill tell NEVER try to live in this community....TOO MANY FUCKING HUGE TREES HERE!!!!!...we just got power at around 11 am after being out of power for more than 7 days!!!......Cardosi sucks ass!!!!...
our power was our for over 3 days. i was in the highlands that day, damn hurricaine fucked that shit up. thanks for not warning us national weather service.
That was freaking crazy! I heard a couple of houses were hit by giant trees! Luckily I wasn't hurt and neither was the house. I know this is childish, but even though it was dangerous as hell, I still enjoyed the crazy winds.
the sirens are only for tornados and other major civil emergencys like nuclear war or an air raid. Also this was not supposed to happen thats why the nws did not forecast hurricane force winds thed day before this happened and if the sun woldnt have come out we wouldnt have seen those high winds they caught the nws off guard anyways they did have a high wind warning out which means winds as high as 60 mph or higher is expected outside of thunderstorms
When I was riding my bike outside all you could hear were car alarms and emergency vehicle sirens, Also Louisville Fire&Rescue made over 2,000 plus runs only about 2 hours into the storm
Good job guys. Thanks for posting this. I used to live in the Highlands for 3 years and its a pity to see all the destruction. This is even bigger than the storm that hit Louisville about 4-5 yeras ago when it baralled down from Indiana.
The news is saying it will be 10 to 12 days before some people get power back. 75% of the city's power is out! (I'm one of the lucky few who has it right now)
i think its safe to say this was louisvilles first tropical storm just no rain it sure was fun watching it because im a severe weather lover and as you all know louisville is in a big severe weather drought and i think we sure made up for it all today although it was fun for me and people like me its gonna suk tommrow when the cleanup begins
I live between downtown and Old Louisville. Some of my friends in the Highlands don't seem to have phone lines. One of them uses Vonage, so I guess the electricity and/or cable is out, or she just doesn't know to reset her router.
You've had eight more views in the last 15 minutes. Thanks again.
this has to go down as one of the worst storms to hit louisville since 2004 and 1974. did you see bardstown road? did that do okay or are the power poles all down again like the last two times?
Dag!! I live in the Highlands, and E. Parkway didn't look half as bad as my street..

i was joking, but global warming is real, its not working as fast as they say, but its happening

Climate change is real, here, on Mars and the moons of Jupiter. What would be really unnatural is a climate that didn't fluctuate.

i don't think it is as severe as they say, but is happening faster than natural rates
