The Inuit seemed to manage to live to a ripe old age on a diet of meat and blubber. That was before white men came and introduced them to sugar and other carbohydrates. There are many cultures worldwide that exist primarily on meat, Mongols, Masai . . . eat meat, skip carbohydrates.
@LCHFinCanada American Diabetic Association is starting to include the DEMONSTRATED benefit of going vegan in their info, and you are talking to a person in the medical field who has seen the results with my own eyes time and time again. All diabetics should give it a chance and see the results for themselves, they are usually AMAZING.
All I know is I have tried so many diets that it isn't funny and none of them worked for me. I started Dr. Barnard's diet about a month ago and it is the easiest diet I have ever been on. No diet works if you cannot follow it. I have lost 20 pounds. My morning glucose used to be 160 to 170 every morning. My morning numbers now are 90 to 110. This is after only one month. Nothing or no one could make me get off this diet now.
@LCHFinCanada You will not promo your site here. REMOVED and you have been blocked. You have an obvious anti-animal advocate agenda and you have wasted enough of the good people's time who visit here. When you sign in and visit on your other names that also bashes activists, I will block them, too. I allow people to say their peice, but not if just an 'action alert' for idiots rather than a true discussion of facts.
I do not usually like to block people, but he has had his ample say in the matter. Anyone who wants to hear more from him is free to do so - head over to his page, I'm done with him. Every comment here does not requires his idiotic argumentative responses.
This doctor is a quack. You can consume meat and animal products and be very healthy. I am very healthy and I am not on a plant based diet. I do eat plants as side dishes or snacks.
@Kay7271 and I think you need to learn what FACTS are. A fact is something proven correct. Observational studies can never, ever, ever end up with "Facts" as an outcome. Ever.
Unless you're a propagandist and believe them to be facts, which it appears you do.
Unproven by every proper clinical study means "not facts" btw.
@LCHFinCanada I think when a person says "not based strictly" it implies the word "and", e.g. "AND i have witnessed for my own eyes." (i.e. ALONG WITH years of research). Results, call them what you want - pure semantics, it doesn't mean it isn't working or doesn't work. You are an obvious phobe about 'debunking' something that is generally acknowledged to work, not just for diabetes but heart, weight, OVERALL HEALTH (OVERALL HEALTH - which is what you should be aiming for anyways).
People should check their own facts, it will become clear to any intelligent person which one of us knows what they are talking about. Leave it up to the people, don't bother arguing with me, will get you NOWHERE.
@Kay7271 Considering no one in my meat eating family tree has ever had a heart attack from meat since thats not what causes it nor erectile dysfunction which is also not caused by meat I will be fine.
@lovebigboobs29 erectile dysfunction is caused from blocked blood vessels which is caused by atherosclerosis which is caused by cholesterol which is caused by ANIMAL PRODUCTS, there is NO cholesterol in plants. Get a clue, you don't know much.
We humans existed on a diet of sentient to not apparently sentient living things (from pigs to chard, respectively as an example). But it's our new Western World diet of dead, processed food is what's making us obese, diabetic, heart diseased, and cancer-ridden.
Why are people sooooo threatend by a vegan diet? Seriously? Is it because you could never "handle" one. Let me guess, your one of those americans that NEED meat. Your body just can't run without it. LMFAO the only thing you need is to save your money because heart surgery is flipping expensive. And while you are eating cows, chickens and pigs go ahead and eat your dog or cat. It is the same exact thing.
Regarding the China Study, I haven't read the book but I saw Forks Over Knives - my understanding is they fed mice a high protein vs. low protein diets and tracked their health, especially liver cancer.
This is laughable. Mice are herbivores. T. Colin Campbell is really not that bright.
Ok- next time you go to the grocery store or mexican restaurant look at the fat asses around you and see what they are eating. A big ass steak or hamburger or beef burrito. There is in your face factual data.
Now imagine a raw-fruit-based diet!!! since it's our natural primate diet. Us frugivores aren't monkeying around....we're going bananas with joy. Health = joy.
@BytomGirl Your protein comment really discredited you. Protein is the last thing to worry about; no need to eat something with no fiber and a lot of mercury.
As for "Plants don;t contain Vit. B12.... so so much for the studies" How about real life? r u aware there are "vegan" animals: herbivores. They include cows chickens and pigs - the common places people get B12
B12 is not a dietary nutrient. It's made by bacteria, which are everywhere that pesticides aren't sprayed.
@Kay7271 Continued...You polish off the whole loaf at 8 ounces and that is alsmost 1000 calories, you add i tablespoon of olive oil to salad it's 120... so what is better? Would you eat only half an ounce of crusty bread? That's science...in numbers... and how white flour effects insulin production...
@BytomGirl You give extreme examples to meet your point when we discuss what is BEST. BEST is to give people the truth about optimal diet for health. He talks about white bread, etc, in this video. Again, you just don't really LISTEN to research and thoroughly investigate, and that is what pisses me off. You have the right to your own opinions, but you do NOT have the right to make up your own FACTS.
@Kay7271 What is really sad is that you try to push your way on everybody else and don;t repsect their views and think that your so called "science" is the only way. It's disrespectful and narrow minded. You want every person on this earth to be vegan no matter how much sugar and white floiur they eat...according to Good Doctor here crusty white bread is better than olive oil because it has 4 caloroies a gram, oil has 9.
@Kay7271 I don;t have to do any more research, I know what works for me and what keeps me healthy..I have no problems, have high energy and feel great so why should I change what works works for me...no single diet works for everybody...and I my focus is not losing wight and thayt is all I hear here, losing weight... it's all about weight.. I am not going to listen to dozens of gimmics that rely on some food groups but not others... balance id the best thing for me. Good luck.
@BytomGirl That is because you only watched Part One - most people who don't thoroughly investigate facts don't pay enough attention to even know when they are missing something. Pink elephant in the room, maybe? I see how much research you have done... lol,,, that is funny. Yes, you watched and checked really thoroughly, eh? lol.
@BytomGirl The videos are all over my channel - ask Bill Clinton what diet he follows. I suggest you watch them and do some further research on the subject. First do no harm.
@Kay7271 I forgot to add one more thing, plant sources of Omega contain much more Omega 6 than Omega 3 which in large quantities and out of balance with Omega 3 can be very unhealthy, down to dangerous.
Search for the Sanjay Gupta special "The Last Heart Attack" and learn how you can be GUARANTEED not to have a heart attack. It is a "food-borne illness"
@Kay7271 You are missing the point with President Clinton, he didn;t get his heart problems from eating fish and olive oil, he was eating fatty hamburgers full of saturated fat on white buns... he is talking about food high in cholesterol, fishh and olive oil fight that very cholesterol, you put all fat into one basket... a fat ios afat is a fat...
The Framingham Study, The China Study, the PCRM, the known stats about fat and mercury content in fish, Dr. Esselstyn and the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Colin Campbell and Cornell Univesity, Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. John McDougall, etc, etc etc. The truth is out there. Cure people instead of profits!!!
@Kay7271 I am not going to compare myself to Mr. Clinton, I never had problems with my heart, at 60 have tryglicerides of 66, normal is aroung 150-200. I eat fish, avocadoes, olive oil. Yes, many oils are bad for you, have a lot of Omega 6 and are not mono unsaturated... I don;t eat those... my picture on my channel is current, I look half my age and the treadmill test I had amazed my doctor. I lift weights and walk 5 miles a day. Enough said.
@Kay7271 Exept I didn;t study it in this country and nutrition was a part ofd studies in medical school there, besides, it requires learning about the way body works and what it needs and it's not just carbs without any kind of fat, any extremes are unhealthy, I am all for diet very rich in veggies and fruits and eat tons of them every day and I also eat beans and whole grains but also good oils, niuts and fatty fish as they supply nutrients veggies alone don;t have...
@BytomGirl End if you avoid all fat your body will not be able to absorb Vit. A, D, E and K, all very important to the body and fat solubile. You can believe all you want and I will believe in results an d my knowledge, I will respect yours, all the best with your diet, you respect mine.
Thank you Dr Neal Barnard for being so passionate about what you know and understand to be true. I was lucky enough to hear you speak in Sydney (after I heard your invite - free lecture on reversing diabetes over radio late the night before). I've made some changes and my weight dropped by 10 kilos. I do not need to take high blood pressure tablets after all. I now look for healthier choices when eating out. Surprised to find yummy chickpea thai/pumpkin salad at Brisbane airport.
I watched this over the weekend after a run in the rain.. very inspirational! I'm trying to get back on track after falling off the excercise/eating healthy wagon. Thanks for sharing!!

Sorry- when I talked about the ADA in a previous comment, I should have said the ADA's targets are not only UN-healthy. Was typing too fast.
The ADA targets are based on keeping their donations coming in from pharmaceutical and food companies.
True diabetes control targets for healthy life are found at the AACE and IDF sites, neither of which is in such a conflict of interest like the ADA.
Healthy A1c: 4.6% to 5.4%
Any glucose reading above 140mg/dl EVER is damaging our bodies.
