It was not a accident , but a strike towards an object eg saucer type space craft, coming in from space towards new mexico area sector 2.This other craft was behind the shuttle so it could shadow columbia coming into the earth.I have full information on this event in great detail. Its target was the object not the shuttle. But the object was so close to the shuttle , it had to be it.

@ProteussTheGreat that depends on what you would call the "finnish line". the USSR definately made it to space first. the usa was the first on the moon though, and prior to the end of the shuttle launches, held the majority of manned space flight hours. but as of the end of the shuttle launches, american astronauts will be tagging along on russian launches, so it could be any way you like it.
215alesio it wasn't metal fatigue, it was caused by a piece of foam striking the leading edge of the left wing on takeoff, causing a 6-8" hole in the thermal protection material.
@47421sawyer The BBC lunchtime news had a piece of footage from the onboard camera in orbit that clearly showed a jagged 'tear' down the port wing around 18" wide. The tiles where missing or broken and you could clearly see the airframe. By the 6 oclock news, this piece of footage had been edited out and I've never seen it anywhere since. I don't believe for one moment it was foam or ice.
@3Deity Which camera took the picture ? There is not a camera that could see the leading edge of the wing....I also question the tile statement you posted. There are no tiles on the leading edge of the wing..
@aimhigh59 It was when the shuttle was in orbit. There is a long thin robot arm (fine in zero gravity) and there is a camera that attaches to this - the crew can inspect the belly of the vehicle without need for spacewalk. The damage may have been to the leading edge, I don't recall that, as I and my aircraft designer father where so jaw dropped by the large line of tiles missing off the top of the port wing.
@3Deity Your wrong. The RMS or robotic arm as you call it did not fly on that flight. The flight was a Spachab flight which is a labratory that sits in the cargo bay attached by a tunnel. The arm dos not fly to save weight. Remember, the inspections they do now which are mandatory using the arm were because of the accident. You didnt see a photo of damage because there wasnt one. Again, there are no tiles on the leading edge. No cover up was made ! For what reason ?
@aimhigh59 Who keeps mentioning leading edges? Not me! RMS - Route Mean Square? Acronyms mean little. Well, all we know is what we and several million other people saw. Its interesting to note that as the shuttle accelerates, so the atmosphere thins. When its doing 8,000mph, ice crystals float around with the craft. The biggest strain on the craft is breaking the sound barrier at a mere 770-850mph and the leading edge ceramics can withstand that easily.
@3Deity My point exactly. People look at the wing and say tiles are missing but they are not. The leading edge is made of RCC panels with no tile on it. RCC-Reinforced Carbon Carbon. You wont find a picture because there absolutly are none of tiles missing. RMS-Remote Manipulating System-the robotic arm.
@aimhigh59 So, to save further pointless gesticulation; You cannot say I was wrong as much as I cannot find the appropriate footage. Its a shame. I know a number of people that saw it. I am actually tempted to recreate the footage in 3D, except I can't be bothered!
@aimhigh59 There was a programme on UK TV in which this really dodgy looking guy who spoke like a robot tried to replicate the damage to the leading edge. He managed it, just, and the producers where not convinced it wasn't rigged as none was allowed to examine the pieces afterwards. Of course, the question is why would any cover up be made? National pride, looming elections, little green men? Who knows!
@ChiroQuacker What does the "never went back" (to the moon) have to do with your theory? If we had went back periodically then conspiracy theorists could point the finger at computer graphics more and more each year.
when the shuttle goes up and then orbits the earth it is no more then 400 miles above the earths surface...
it is a fact that nasa keeps it at this altitude so the shuttle does not come near the van allen radiation belts...on one of the shuttle missions the craft wandered above the 400 mile limit and the astronauts complained of feeling the radiation effects of being near the van allen belts...eye pain, etc...so nasa had them adjust their altitude so they orbited closer to earth
the lining of the shuttle walls for its cockpit is far more protective then the apollo cockpits were 40 years ago...and the apollo computers on board were primitive by todays standards...
the shuttle has to stay away from the van allen radiation belts due to its harmful effects on the astronauts...but...this posed NO PROBLEM for 7 apollo moon missions that flew thru them 14 times going to and back from the moon
and no apollo moon astronauts died early from cancer
thanks for this info..i will have to verify...then why did shuttle astros complain of the radiation effects from the belts on one of the missions and ground control had them lower their altitude...
i say "one" of the missions because i know for a fact it happened on one...it may have posed that problem on other missions as well
i agree with rd24128 .... wtf is the matter with that jerk saying such an awful thing... anyway, these astronauts train for years and years for their first space flight... its terrible that they got to that point, and died that way. or some would think that at least they died doing what they loved and lived for. either way, rest in peace Columbia.
@navajovik Well you didn't listen properly. Last week was the last Endeavour flight, the last ever Space Shuttle Flight is scheduled for July in Atlantis.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sorry to say but this video is the wrong one. The aircraft Columbia was the first one launched by NASA 1981. Not 2003. However, I believe the helicopters have caught meteors. Cheers!!
Sorry to say but this video is the wrong one. The aircraft Columbia was the first one launched by NASA 1981. Not 2003. However, I believe the helicopters have caught meteors. Cheers!!
I saw this from the ground where I lived. I was out running and noticed it, when I came back in my dad told me that the space shuttle had blown up or something. The CNN footage was exactly what I saw.
OMG, pilots are dutch... I think they didn't quite knew what they were filming at the time. it don't really sound like they were talking about the spaceshuttle (i'm dutch, so I can understand what they say...)
Apache crew speaks Dutch, so presumably Royal Dutch Air Force on training or taking delivery of another AH64 in Mesa, AZ. They say they go to "setting 4" (presumably on the camera) to try & find out what they are filming. They're not aware that it's STS-107 breaking up, which explains why there is no emotion.
@4711rock really the lack of emotion would be there even if they did know what was happening seeing as you would have had to maintain a professional attitude
@4711rock It's a Dutch Apache crew on training. They talk English to the tower en Dutch to each other. I think they don't know that a shuttle just explode and are curious what it can be. In Dutch they say -"zal eens kijken wat het hier is." Translation: "I take a look what this is." The next Dutch line is: "het vloog ergens tegenaan, toch?" Translation: "it hit something, isn'it?" And the last Dutch line: "zal ik het even op papier zetten?" Translation: "shall I write it down?" Ja! Yes!
I removed 1 comments. Sorry. Didn't understand what was going on. "US Apache Helicopter crews were on a training mission with foreign pilots on the morning of February 1, 2003. Gun-camera footage picks up the ..."
@stripes5150 The Apache could not have shot down the shuttle as it would have been out of range for that weapon system, also targeting an object traveling at hypersonic speed would be impossible short of using a powerful laser system or maybe rail gun. The shuttle enters the upper atmosphere faster than any weapon that helicopter might have had on board.
@DeusVenator kiss my ass the shuttle is the greatest single vehicle designed by man. 133 takeoffs and landings and only 2 accidents and one wasnt even a takeoff accident but rather a re-entry accident
dumbfucks, i mean, your fucking rocket scientists, you would figure that to get to that point you would rule out every fucking possibility BEFORE you sent them back to earth
Thats not an Apache or C-130 crew, the accident occurred at over 200,000 ft in elevation, way out of the range of any normal cameras. Plus Apache camera dont point straight up. This was probably take from either a NASA camera somewhere around the world or the voice have been dubbed in other languages.
@dogmandan79 200.000ft you say, sure, but the debris pieces made it all away to the ground. See the end of the footage. Those Apache pilots probably started filming about over a minute or 2 into the accident, at under 20.000ft I'd guess.
The apache crew should shoot at the light hoping they would shoot the astronauts to end their sufferings right before they fell to die which they still have feelings and to end their scary feeling of falling down and die to just end it with the autocannon shots which would end their sufferings immediately.

thanks for this info..i will have to verify...then why did shuttle astros complain of the radiation effects from the belts on one of the missions and ground control had them lower their altitude...
i say "one" of the missions because i know for a fact it happened on one...it may have posed that problem on other missions as well

what goes up must come down. not sure what the fuss is it's not like those burning bit of material were the astronauts

i agree with rd24128 .... wtf is the matter with that jerk saying such an awful thing... anyway, these astronauts train for years and years for their first space flight... its terrible that they got to that point, and died that way. or some would think that at least they died doing what they loved and lived for. either way, rest in peace Columbia.

Sad, I heard today was the last shuttle out to space.
navajovik 8 months ago
@navajovik Well you didn't listen properly. Last week was the last Endeavour flight, the last ever Space Shuttle Flight is scheduled for July in Atlantis.
wazzmastermax 8 months ago
@navajovik all the shuttles suffered metal fatigue and structural damage after years and years of service. Alloy bodies don't last for ever.
Italian engeneers were fired, the story went to the RAI news italian news: the columbia had cracks all over the place. but went in service anyhow.
Then some propaganda masters searched for an explanation to give at the public named FOAM

OMG AN APACHE GUNSHIP SHOT DOWN THE SHUTTLE. OMG GEORGE BUSH SHOT DOWN THE SHUTTLE. OMG WHERE ARE THE LOOSE CHANGE MORONS WHEN WE NEED THEM OMG
nickcigich 10 months ago
@nickcigich I heard from a ex FBI guy that they rigged it.
It wasn't friction going 15000+mph or 100000 gallons of jet fuel that caused structural failure, it was CONSPIRACAL PLAINTED EXPLOSIFS!!!!!!
fredfinks 10 months ago
@fredfinks Well 90% of the heat caused during reentry is from compression of air, not friction

Ik dacht al dat die 'vreemde' taal bekend in de oren klonk.
dnbwhynot 10 months ago
@4711rock really the lack of emotion would be there even if they did know what was happening seeing as you would have had to maintain a professional attitude
RokkerBoyy 8 months ago
@4711rock It's a Dutch Apache crew on training. They talk English to the tower en Dutch to each other. I think they don't know that a shuttle just explode and are curious what it can be. In Dutch they say -"zal eens kijken wat het hier is." Translation: "I take a look what this is." The next Dutch line is: "het vloog ergens tegenaan, toch?" Translation: "it hit something, isn'it?" And the last Dutch line: "zal ik het even op papier zetten?" Translation: "shall I write it down?" Ja! Yes!
tompouceful 7 months ago
sounds like the pilots are speaking Dutch. No emotion, nothing in their voices though. Weird.
rockattack 11 months ago
@rockattack
yes it is dutch
they didnt show emotions because they didnt really know what it was
you can hear them say: what's this?

Proof the apache shot it down...why else would it be targeting and why were they in that place at that time?
stripes5150 11 months ago
@stripes5150 They were watching it.
austin2460 11 months ago
@stripes5150 The Apache could not have shot down the shuttle as it would have been out of range for that weapon system, also targeting an object traveling at hypersonic speed would be impossible short of using a powerful laser system or maybe rail gun. The shuttle enters the upper atmosphere faster than any weapon that helicopter might have had on board.

supercrapnstuff11 11 months ago
Thats not an Apache or C-130 crew, the accident occurred at over 200,000 ft in elevation, way out of the range of any normal cameras. Plus Apache camera dont point straight up. This was probably take from either a NASA camera somewhere around the world or the voice have been dubbed in other languages.
dogmandan79 11 months ago
@dogmandan79 200.000ft you say, sure, but the debris pieces made it all away to the ground. See the end of the footage. Those Apache pilots probably started filming about over a minute or 2 into the accident, at under 20.000ft I'd guess.

The apache crew should shoot at the light hoping they would shoot the astronauts to end their sufferings right before they fell to die which they still have feelings and to end their scary feeling of falling down and die to just end it with the autocannon shots which would end their sufferings immediately.
