Anyway, it is really crazy to read. They were absolute savages to the natives. They would cut off their arms for fun just to watch them bleed out. WTF is a "tribesman" anyway? The Africans who sold other Africans to European traders were, for the most part, large, wealthy kingdoms centered around major cities near the coast. Those kingdoms generally acquired those slaves either by raiding their inland neighbors (typically less organized than they were) or they bought them from warring neighbors and resold them. They actually preferred female slaves domestically but were happy to sell the men to Europeans since male slaves were troublesome.
African slavery didn't start when the Europeans started buying slaves, but it really increased then. Kingdoms became totally focused on getting slaves, since the trade made it the most lucrative activity; before that it was more of an incidental activity really. Being sold overseas was considered a really bad fate, on a par with a death sentence. It was sometimes given to citizens as a punishment for serious crimes.

I know this is slightly off topic from the Pilgrims, but I read portions of the diaries of Christopher Columbus. It was compiled and released in book form, but I don't recall the title at the moment. Anyway, it is really crazy to read. They were absolute savages to the natives. They would cut off their arms for fun just to watch them bleed out. There is a story of a couple kids walking through the forest, and two of Columbus' friends' chopped their heads off just for laughs. Crazy stuff

While many slaves were outright kidnapped, a very large number were actually sold to White and Moorish slavers by tribal chiefs in exchange for protection, military support, and cold hard cash. Many of said slaves sold were prisoners of war, unwanted children, captured tribal rivals, and opponents of the chief's rule. This African involvement, however, does not in any way excuse the foreign buyers of the slaves.

WTF is a "tribesman" anyway? The Africans who sold other Africans to European traders were, for the most part, large, wealthy kingdoms centered around major cities near the coast. Those kingdoms generally acquired those slaves either by raiding their inland neighbors (typically less organized than they were) or they bought them from warring neighbors and resold them. They actually preferred female slaves domestically but were happy to sell the men to Europeans since male slaves were troublesome.

African slavery didn't start when the Europeans started buying slaves, but it really increased then. Kingdoms became totally focused on getting slaves, since the trade made it the most lucrative activity; before that it was more of an incidental activity really. Being sold overseas was considered a really bad fate, on a par with a death sentence. It was sometimes given to citizens as a punishment for serious crimes.

As I pointed out, although Europeans did not introduce slavery to Africa, they caused it to greatly expand, and introduced the new and much worse element of transporting slaves out of Africa. This is not in any way an excuse for American slavery. In fact there is no excuse for owning other human beings, especially not "everyone else is doing it."

However, you mischaracterize slavery as it existed previously. Beating has always been an integral part of slave ownership because there is no other way to motivate a slave to work harder. Sexual servitude has also always been a part of slavery. The reason female slaves were often more valued than males was because they could be forced to act as concubines, which are like wives but without the respect or familial obligations involved in actual marriage.

Slavery in the Caribbean was considerably worse, though. Down there, it was essentially a death sentence. They did not import women, because men were not expected to have lives. They just worked until they died, which typically happened in just a few years.

Of course, there were many different tribes of Indians in America, and many did not approve of the white man's presence, so they decided to kill many of them. It wasn't until the War of 1812 that sides were chosen between Indian tribes.
As far as guns, the machine gun was invented in Europe and utilized in Africa.

Often, tribes would go to war with one another and sell off the individuals they captured to the slave traders(profit), who came not only from the United States, but Europe as well. As for the whole, "Europe does not have the same immigration issues" I would have to disagree. There are huge issues with illegal immigrants all over the EU.

No, for all first world countries, America has the highest murder rate. There are plenty of industrialized nations that have much more murders per capita than the US. Also, the US has a lower violent crime rate than some European countries (who don't have the illegal immigration problem that we do), including England.
