(gore)mr.zappa, I just would like to know..have you heard about man bear pig? this is a real threat here, and we need to find him and destroy him so we can rezolve this issue. please take this issue super cereal
I like the idea of lyric sheets. It doesn't label the artist in any way, and it doesn't try to interpret the artist's message and rate the album based on the interpretation of that message. Instead it shows what the artist wrote and intended for the listener to hear, and doesn't judge the artist or try to advise the listener. Plus, it lets you sing along to the songs without looking the lyrics up. Sounds like a good idea to me.
Gore? you're a blundering IDIOT! Frank read more books on law ,legislature , etc. than any of you bozos in government. Now you can your wifes' ass now.
I love the dude freely lighting up the pipe in the background. The 80s rocked. We still had Stevie Ray Vaughan, Led Zep (a little), AC/DC... better times. (If you ignore the constant threat of nuclear war)
I REALLY can't believe that with all the problems in the world, all this time is taken up with song lyrics. What about taking all that time and effort and put it into creating jobs, cutting taxes, and getting us the hell out of debt. Oh, and BTW, maybe you can close down the FED while you're at it. Ridiculous.
@FDG917 Yeah, and if there was no hidden agenda or legislation waiting in the wings, why were they even there going through the motions of a hearing? Gore is a lying sack.
@FDG917 Yeah, and if there was no hidden agenda or legislation waiting in the wings, why were they even there going through the motions of a hearing? Gore is a lying SOB.
I'm still amazed that they organized such a meeting with so many powerful people in order to discuss wether there should be or not a little sheet inside the album.
Gore... fuckin' idiot then, fuckin' idiot now (and one-worlder) Its obvious he didn't have ANYTHING to say or rebutt with, juyst wanted to look like he knew what to do... moron
@jose044 If Captain Beefheart did it, he probably wouldn't have cared. He would've said, "Music's too bland today. Give 'em the rating - drive the children towards MY records."
its so laughable that they keep saying that there is no agenda of legislation or government intervention...why the hell are they testifying to the senate then? play us for fools
how is frank suppose to respond seriously to gore's "i don't see a hidden agenda" comment? not to mention him and his butt-buddies basically gave themselves away by that point, reinforcing whenever they could that there would be "no legislation." as zappa said, it's easy to smell a rat.
one thing that bothers me is that interviews with frank about this always end before they cover the enitire debate and its tangent issues, let alone resolve any of the issues.
Does anybody have Prince's recording's at the PMRC hearing's.No they don't.Because Prince is a little bitch that who thought he was too good to be there and was the person who was the one chosen to stand up for his music, along with rap and everything else to prevent censorship in music like Dee Snnyder was heavy metal's poster boy.Try to find a Prince song anywhere and you won't.Prince is a Little bitch.Fuck him and his music.
Sadly, the government usually succeeds in curtailing our First Amendment rights. The mere threat of legislation is often sufficient to scare artists into censoring themselves. This is convenient for sidestepping the Constitution because it has the appearance of being a voluntary act. We're seeing much the same thing happening today with violent video games, an issue the Supreme Court is going to decide next term in Schwarzenegger v. EMA.
Zappa is completely straight forward and sticks by what he says. That's why people like him will never be any kind of power in congress, unfortunately.
@funboy7979 I was in high school during this and creepy beyond belief describes it then and now. BUT - there is a big difference in those who willingly and mindlessly do anything Al Gore (or Tipper) would tell them and those like you and me who fight against it every step of the way.
@funboy7979 something that would come out of zappas mouth I find that statement very intelligent as the way put the words and made them sound much more complex then they are.
"People who write bad laws are, in my opinion, more dangerous than songwriters who celebrate sexuality."
There it is, folks, dangerous truth, right out in the open.
And remember: This spoken to the eventually-sainted Al Gore, who, having failed to control the music you listen to now wants to control the CO2 you breath.
It's not about controlling music, or speech, or CO2, or even guns. It's not about controlling things at all, never has been.
Anyone have the actual Dee Snider interview? I see the links to the Metalhead documentary with Dee tooting his horn left and right. If you can post that, I'd love you forever!
Oh, and +1 to Al Gore for at least being sympathetic on the issue!
@TEMPmichaelhansen Nah, Dee Snider says 'Ms Gore was looking for sadomasicism and bondage just like someone looking for surgical references would have found those'. Or something similar.
@MagicPatrick2 Al Gore, Sympathetic? Are you watching the same thing I am. His wife is the arch enemy of these guys. He is not sympathetic, its called acting. -1 for MagicPatrick2 being another ignorant sheeple following Gore.

I think Zappa's proposal is a little hokey, unless he was trying to show how irrational any other option than a totally free market is.
I think Frank would be happy as to how this turned out, music is a totally free market. People can publish what ever they want and not include lyrics.
