XD I failed I clicked on the video cause I thought it said how to battle cat and I was like oh that sounds funny :D then I heard bathing and was like uh so I looked at the title was like ohhh :(
@Ironbob...I'm with you there. The whole reason I'm looking up how to bathe a cat is to find out how to bathe one that minds being bathed; not seeing one who's used to it
This would never happen with my Scott. If you see my videos you will know why! And as far as the hair dryer is concerned :) he hates every time i have to dry my hair. He runs off as if he's being chased or something. This is not a very informative video i would say.
haha that was nice and the cat seemed so relax when i use to bathe my cats i used the blow dryer and it got scared but than it got over it and let me dry her ^^ i gave her treats for her to distract her >:D lol
My cat Robin never gets aggressive when I bathe her; she kinda complains when getting wet, but a bath can clean other regions unaccessible to the small rough tongue, cats have. I'm glad YouTube has informative, as well as entertaining and persuasive vids.
cat allergies can be treated with a product called petal cleanse, its a wet wipe for the cat that helps eliminate the dander, the stuff humans are allergic to. they dont need to be bathed.
myyyyyygaaaaaaaaaaaawd----is there 1 videO dealing with BAD kitties that are very difficult to handle ????? simply searching for tips on humanely handling them---can't deal with the biting and scratches--
If you regularly bathe a cat, they are all like this. Start at about 9 weeks and do at least 4 bath annually. Its not so much to ask. If you slowly and calmly introduce a cat to water when young, bathing is not a issue. Most won't like it, but they don't act like you are trying to kill them.
I wish my cats were that chill when they got baths (LOVE when that cat it getting dried. XD )
I've had to give all of my three cats baths... Two of them needed a bath because they got coal dirt on them, and another needed a bath because he fell in a bucket of pee (don't ask :P )
@marciolon Think of all the people who suffer from cat allergies. I do as well, but when I'm around a cat that is regularly bathed in water, I don't notice my allergies flaring up. A cat's self-cleaning isn't really sufficient for keeping those little meowly beasts clean, no way!
Everybody should bathe their cats. From what I've seen, cats may have an aversion to water... but most of them get over it when they're eased into it. I've even seen some cats who seem to love the water!
@marciolon Sure, people with allergies to cats can just not own a cat and avoid the problem... but that doesn't solve the issue with having friends who own cats (or for the reverse: nonallergic cat owners who have friends who are allergic). I've always been appreciative of my cat-owning friends who keep their cats and houses clean. It's nice to be able to visit someone without breaking into an allergic fit.
My cat (Mabel) is bitey, scratchy, anti social and smelly (like pee) She needs a bath but she shreds you with her claws and bites if you even attempt to pick her up. :( what can I do? She's going to make my house pong :(
My opion allll cats need bathes!!! Because they stink so put'em in the water just don't let it run because they dont like the sound of water use the sprayer... N if ur cat trust u he wont scrach u most cats meow alot but thats nothin... Give'em bathes
my cat gets himself in an awful mess because he has long hair. but even brushing him is a serious battle and he falls out with me for the rest of the day! im sure he needs a bath but he hates water and im dreading attempting it. theres absolutely no way he would sit nicely like the cat in the video.
I'm contemplating washing my cats. I just wonder if, in my case, it is absolutely necessary. I have two cats. One British Bombay (I believe) which has very short hair, and one with slightly longer hair (but my no means long). They only go out supervised for short periods of time on a terrace but are indoor cats. The thing is, they actually always smell nice. Besides recommendations, is it absolutely necessary? Pros and cons if possible (both 3 years of age).
I don't think there's any point if they don't smell bad. My sister had a cat that stank to high heaven. For some reason it didn't keep itself clean, so she bathed it, but it was a hassle. No point in giving yourself extra work.
i start giving my cats baths when theyre kittens so that later when they are adults they dont freak out also one of my cats is really dirty hes quite the freak. 0,0 he doesnt like to bath he likes taking showers with us its hilarious he'll get pissed if you dont let him bathe with you
Pretty funny and ironic. Yor cat is cool if thats the case. Ive done kennel work before and th worst part of the job is bathing a cat that isnt used to the water. Youre lucky I tell you from experience.
Yeah, I haven't worked in a kennel but my cat decided he won't let us trim his claws anymore. I'm convinced the other cats told him not to. He bites! Hard. Oh well. Now we take him to the vet to get it done and he behaves! Animals are funny that way.
I have spoken to vets about this when i 1st got my cat, as a kitten he had bad fleas and i'm prone to allergies making it necessary to bathe him. He now quite likes it and is constantly playing with water. i have to lock the bayhroom door when i'm running a bath for me to stop him jumping in and scalding himself.
cont. That is usually if it is very hot out. They don't like a wet comb at first but once you've done it a few times, they change their mind. If you want to groom your cat you need to get them used to being handled that much, at a young age so they understand you won't hurt them. The only time I've ever put a cat in water/washed it was at the vets office when he needed a flea bath or after he was sick. ( I paid for them to do it!)
This cat is washed because it is a SHOW cat. Cats do NOT need to be washed. They are capable of doing that for themselves. The only time/situation you'd want to wash a cat is if the cat got filthy and all the dirt/grime would make the cat sick if it cleaned it off itself, or if the cat got into pine sap or chemicals that would make it sick/hurt it.
Sometimes using a warm wet washcloth is enough to get the dirt off. Sometimes we use a wet comb to comb water through our cats fur.
my elderly rex cat is filthy. he is fat and half bald and has grime in areas he cannot reach because of his flab. he was a rescue cat so there is little we can do about his condition but he is smelly. what can i do? is bathing safe for an old cat?
My cat got pretty old, we had her until she was, 22 or so. We rescued her from the street in my city. She was hit by a car. Point is, sometimes when she got pretty old, we had to cut dreads off her since she was a little overweight and not as flexible. The only problem was, cat skin can stretch more than you think, and I snipped her a little on occasion. I felt AWFUL! So I had to be much more careful and not trim so close to her skin. I was afraid clippers would be too loud and scare her.
yeah, Henry (rex cat) walked into some kind of black stuff, so we had no choice but to bath him, hes talkative and he cried at us the whole time and i feklt horid, hes huggable now though
yeah, he was ok, he talks at you whatever you do and he has kitty alzheimers so half the time he doesnt know if its tuesday or august. afterwards we made a bug fuss of him and gave him dinner and he went to sunbathe
I forgot to mention this, if your cat is smelly and maybe smells like pee, it can mean his kidneys are going. That was what my cat died from, kidney disease.
She was a talkative cat too... and she held grudges. When I would go away to college & come home a couple months later, she would come in the room and literally sit with her back to me, mad. She would get over it in a little while and then be happy I was home. I'm glad your kitteh didn't get too bummed with you. :)
nah, he didnt smell like pee, just kinda what dirty laundry smells like if you forgot to wash it before going away for 3 weeks, that kinda grimy smell. he had ingrained dirt in his skin because his lack of fur meant it didnt jusr come off fur, and he was too fat to wash properly :( he was pretty nasty
Ooh. Musty mildew. I hate that smell. Poor kitty. He probably didn't like the smell too much either. Ha ha. He probably enjoyed being clean after the temporary unpleasantness. :)
unfortunately, SMARTY PANTS, sometimes we NEED to clean our cats. What if their fur gets dirty with a chemical substance. Any humane owner will not allow their cat to lick this off.
If i was a cat i definitely would not want you as my owner =(
man u r the luckiest none of my cats that i ever had wouldnt take a shower or it would just run awaya after shower and it wont stay calm when i dry it
First, cats (particularly outdoor or elderly cats) sometimes need baths. My cat just came in from a dip in the bay and licking himself clean would not have been healthy.
He HATED the bath, but is now fluffy and purring. So no harm done.
The cat shown here is incredibly calm for a cat getting a bath, so I don't know if this is a useful video for most people. I recommend trimming your cat's claws before giving them the bath - unless they're an outdoor cat and need their claws.
Aww, i cant wait to bathe my kitty ^_^ shes pawing at my comp screen at the cats, and i said to her, "Thats gunna be you hehe" and she loooked at mee and watced the bathing cats again. XD
actually, cats do need baths definately if they're outdoor cats they can get really stinky and gross and even if they're indoor cats they should still have a bath just because they lick themeselves doesn't mean they're clean
i just used your advice on my new cat and she was calm and she didnt scratch me one timee. Also i used baby shampoo because i have no cat shampoo fancy stuff XD
I'm so fortunate that my cat tolerates bathing. I think he actually LOVES the warm water and sudsy, full body massage. One thing I always do is brush him out the night before ... at least until he starts showing signs of static and we stop. I brush him again before the bath so he is comfy and relaxed. This also helps reduce the amount of hair that is shed during the bath.
we have two cats. one of which was very antisocial when we got her. but since she started getting bathed, she actually jumps in our laps for attention!!
Cats hate hissing sounds so fill the tub (just under shoulder level) beforehand. Start by petting the cat with a wet hand to get it used to the idea. Careful not to squeeze or hold too firmly, lower the cat in the water. It WILL take a minute or two for the critter to adjust so give it plenty of reassurance in a calm tone of voice. Praise for good behavior. If the cat hates blowdryers warm the towel in a dryer at the start. Cats flee if they get close enough to the edge so bathe in the center.
I had a cat that used to bathe in dirt(and who knows what else) like a dog would, I agree cats should be left alone as they clean themselves, but by old cat would get absolutely grotty! I had to hold 2 legs in each hand, dunk him in the water, while my husband washed him. If he wasnt the way he was then I wouldnt of done it. He was very difficult indeed.
Why would you bother? Cats aren't meant to be bathed, they clean themsleves. Why put them through something they dislike for your own benefit? I think this is cruel. My cat is 12 years old yet smells of nothing and is so soft. She is petrified at a drop of water, so I would never for a sec think of doing this.
If the cat doesnt like it, then of course, don't do it. But I don't see what your problem is with this video. This is a SHOW CAT, that's why he gets hand washed. If you're shoving your cat into a tub and pouring water over them while they're clawing and screaming, THAT'S animal cruelty. This cat obviously doesnt mind.
Coz she is talking in general how to bath a cat. Not a SHOW cat. Some moron may see this, and think they will try it on their own cat because it looks so simple. And end up causing them unecessary distress.
It is not harmful to bathe a cat, can be good for them, and they don't get as clean as we think they do. It is not cruel. Even if it isn't a show cat.
The method that I've listed above turned my roommate's fiesty manx into a cuddly lapcat come bathtime. Cats are great at reading body language, so if you don't MAKE it a big deal, it'll never BE a big deal. ;) I agree it IS cruel to give it a bath when not necessary.
Fleas are tiny hopping disease carriers. A cat can get worms by ingesting infected fleas. In order to give a cat worm medication you usually have to use an eyedropper to force it down it's throat. Would you rather do that for weeks OR take the time to train yourself and your cat in how to bathe humanely?
oh my god the cat is being paid, my cat is the craziest animal ever, when i try to get him into the water, he looks at me and growls, then jumps out of the bath and attacks me, this is freaking bullshit~
im about to bathe ma cat right now she is sitting in ma lap right now. she had dreads like bob marley 0.0

Think about it this way...

If an animal gets bitten by a flea it can get worms. That's why flea repellant gets put on them in warm weather.
