Saw this movie on the shelve at block buster and I knew it would be interesting and I just watched it a couple hours ago and I thought it was pretty breath taking
Marjane is a total badass and probably the female animated version if myself
I never read the graphic novel. I stumbled across this trailer, and was hooked. If you like what you see in the trailer, you will LOVE the film! It's funny, and sweet, and poignantly sad in places. I was unaware it was overlooked by the Academy at Oscar time. Sad comment on them really. I watched the French version, but the DVD has an English dubbed version. Watch the extras on the DVD too...Wonderful! PS-After you see it, I dare you not to smile at the end of the trailer-jasmine flowers
@6Bene im saying this movie is completely foreign to the US, we had no influence whatsoever in the making of it. Everyone thinks that anything viewing the Middle east is strait from the US. Also what does fighting in Iraq have to do with what I said?
I saw the book in the teen section at the library. When I read the first page, I liked it immediately. It's so interesting! little Marji told the story wonderfuly. I felt alike to Marjane, the outspoken intelligent child noticing events around her. I've been looking for Story of a return but I could not find it.
I'm reading this book in Night School. At first I was like "Ugh some weird depressing black and white book" then me and my friend Patryk were having some kind of reading race. Next thing I knew I was like "Damn this book is good." nd I turned to Pat nd said "Once you start reading-," and he finished the sentence saying, "It's pretty interesting". lol. This is an amazing story.
Animated movies aren't supposed to make you cry lol damn!
Seriously though, this movie was so beautiful. I watched it OnDemand when I was bored one night not expecting much because the description said animated but I'm so glad I got to see it.
This is a marvelous film. The animation is charming; you forget that it's mostly black and white, and remember only how beautiful it is. It is both bleak and hilarious, chilling and human. Watch Full Movie Here BigOnlineMovies . c o m
Great movie, and this trailer makes me smile (: I just wish it didn't suggest that blonde dude is the love of her life or something... he was such an ass!

My dad loves this movie, I still haven't seen it though. He and my family escaped to America during the revolution.. I hope everyone's okay over there now...
There is only one movie, but it covers both graphic novels. You can watch it in English, and the dubs are awesome. They even got Iggy Pop to voice Anoosh for the English version. :) And it's been out for a while now. Shouldn't be too hard to find.
I just finished reading the graphic novel just last night. It only took me a few hours. Once I began reading I was hooked and couldn't put it down! It's so amazing!!
That wasn't an Iron Maiden Song. the song is called Master of The Monsters. you can download it with the film's soundtrack as well the movie from any torrent website...
Never seen the movie probley going to see it next week at school, but I had read the book.I Love this book, I read the first one and finish the second one today.Thank god persepolis2 had a good ending :).
Waltz with Bashir was so concerned with being surreal and artistic I think it lost a lot of momentum rendering it, in my opinion, a little 'slow' (for lack of a nicer word). I haven't seen this but I just finished reading the first book and apart from the fact there is a war at the heart of it I am not sure if the two a really comparable. This one has a humour about it. 'Waltz' was as dry as the desert!
I know I saw the film and it made me think about the pilght that these poor people have to go thourgh in order to live. I thought the film was funny, sad but at the same time very truwe to life in the middle east and I really enjoyed it.
i read this book, yeah? i just grabbed a random book off the shelves of my library, cause we had to read something and write a report. i found out what it was about, and i thought it would be boring.

I am an American teacher currently residing in Dubai. There is news for Iranian nationals.

my husband is from iran, and he said that before the revolution, people still didnt have thier freedom, because muslims could not practice thier own freedoms, women would have thier Hijabs (Scarvs) pulled off by the Shah's helpers and they would get beaten up if they wore the hijab, and now the muslims got the power and i guess its a reaction for what they used to go through by not having the riight to practise thier own religion in thier own country...
yeah, right, theyr owr country... like iIndia was the own country of the british.

Meh, can't believe I missed this movie when it was local. Thought it was another art-fag film considering the venue it was playing, but now I gotta say I'm interested.
No, animation can be geared towards any audience. It's generally thought to be for children. It's not supposed to be a kid's movie. It says PG-13. I see this kind of perspective for anime as well. People in the US don't realize what deep storylines anime can have because it's animation and they automatically think it's for children.

People think animation is for kids, they think having serious storylines make it awkward I guess. Darn animation discrimination~
Ratatouille won not for politics, but because it was a great movie, Not just aesthetically gorgeous, but it was a gorgeous story, that deserved to win. PERIOD. Persepolis was also a fantastic film, and could have won as well, it was one of those unfortunate cases were two films deserved to win.
I completely see where you're coming from and I enjoyed Ratatouille VERY MUCH myself, it was cute and funny BUT.. how many times will we see the same story told over and over with a different talking animal trying to help a human or humans? It's time for traditional ANIMATED films with a striking story to win again. Again, I enjoyed Ratatouille but it's the same ol' song for me.
Don't forget Sony Entertainment and their CG contributions. Forget if the films were great or bad, but look at Final Fantasy: Spirits Within and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.
Ratatouille winning over Persepolis is absolutely garbage. I don't care how good Pixar is presenting their aesthetics these days, Marjane gave this stuff deep meaning.
damn pixar wins EVERY YEAR. finding nemo beat two beautiful traditionally drawn films (triplettes of belleville and brother bear)...its fucked in the head.
You saw Finding Nemo though, right? That movie was just about as spectacular as the other nominees. I was actually rooting for Nemo. However, I do think all the constant CGI stuff is getting out of hand. Pixar is, in my opinion, the only studio that makes quality stuff. Everything else is crap in comparison. oh ok and Shrek was good too...
Eh, I honestly didn't think it was that great. It entertained me but I wasn't all that impressed with it. Especially considering how common CGI films are these days. But I agree with you, Pixar is the only studio who has talent in that specific area. They started it, they're the masters. Every other studio needs to give it up. Especially with all of this new crap coming out like Kung Fu Panda and Igor. Oh please.
I did appreciate this film for what it is. However, the only part I absolutely disliked was the eye of the tiger montage within the film.....using it in the trailer is a mistake.... otherwise good film
Well, soo, yeah... totally fuck all the people who are making it into some stupid political...bullshit (Sorry, but i cannot think of another way to put it.) Anyone not interested in Bullshit mongers political prop, Cool. Hook me up sometime because YouTube seems to be full of these stupid dicks. :)

@kondurperusix 1) Because the movie is from comics Marjane Satrapi wrote.

I thought Persepolis was a LOT funnier than Ratatouille. It's better in just about every way, really.

By the way, it was VERY disgusting that Ratatouille won (and who says the academy awards aren't political?)

I loved the part "The Birth of Venus" All they showed was the face. I know why that was done.
