  • my friend who like the iran times shoudl watch this

  • This movie was head and shoulders better than Ratatouille.

It's one of my favorite films of all time. I'm not even sure why, but I've never been so engrossed in an animated movie before.

  • This film is perhaps the ultimate weapon against Islamophobia.

  • Guys, its not called Iran, its called PERSEPOLIS.

  • @MrNiceAssassin no thats a city in iran. you should have said "its not called iran, its called PERSIA"

  • i think all nuns would react that way to micheal jackson

  • Michael Jackson...

  • Saw this movie on the shelve at block buster and I knew it would be interesting and I just watched it a couple hours ago and I thought it was pretty breath taking

Marjane is a total badass and probably the female animated version if myself

  • @Schectler ....Even better...she's a real person.

    :)

  • Shias aren't Muslims. Not even close to Muslims.

  • I never read the graphic novel. I stumbled across this trailer, and was hooked. If you like what you see in the trailer, you will LOVE the film! It's funny, and sweet, and poignantly sad in places. I was unaware it was overlooked by the Academy at Oscar time. Sad comment on them really. I watched the French version, but the DVD has an English dubbed version. Watch the extras on the DVD too...Wonderful! PS-After you see it, I dare you not to smile at the end of the trailer-jasmine flowers

  • to all the people in the middle east that say everything is in a US point of view to make iran look bad, watch this movie...made in France

  • @abcd1234781

    But US fights in Irak

  • @6Bene im saying this movie is completely foreign to the US, we had no influence whatsoever in the making of it. Everyone thinks that anything viewing the Middle east is strait from the US. Also what does fighting in Iraq have to do with what I said?

  • @abcd1234781

ok i dont know what i want to say by that. That comment was pointles.

and to your point, not everyone thinks that..

btw this movie is writen by Iranian woman and based on her life experiences

  • REAL IRANIAN GOVRNMENT

  • We should ask the gov of Iran to broadcast it there as well lol. They are missing a great movie im afraid.

  • i love the part where she sings eye of the tiger LOL

  • As soon as I saw a little Muslim girl headbanging to Iron Maiden, I knew I was going to love this movie.

  • Great movie (and a nice 'nimated' girl too!) She even mentions Bakunin in it..rise up!

  • "The birth of Venus" LOLLLL

  • I saw the book in the teen section at the library. When I read the first page, I liked it immediately. It's so interesting! little Marji told the story wonderfuly. I felt alike to Marjane, the outspoken intelligent child noticing events around her. I've been looking for Story of a return but I could not find it.

  • We watched this in my French 2 class. It was an amazing movie. A lot of people cried and laughed. It was such an amazing animated masterpiece.

  • I'm reading this book in Night School. At first I was like "Ugh some weird depressing black and white book" then me and my friend Patryk were having some kind of reading race. Next thing I knew I was like "Damn this book is good." nd I turned to Pat nd said "Once you start reading-," and he finished the sentence saying, "It's pretty interesting". lol. This is an amazing story.

  • I saw this in history class, it was really sad

  • Oh my gosh! I must see the movie! I have the books and they were sooo good! Movie looks good, too! :D

  • film a voir de toute urgence !!! ^^

  • do they have this movie out in english somewhere or at least english subs

  • @funnyjokes4 YES IN ENGLISH!!!:)

  • @funnyjokes4 i just ordered it off of amazon.com

  • @citizenpoet thanks but i found it somewhere

  • @funnyjokes4 i know but i found it somewhere on line

  • Cool

  • What Iron Maiden song is that?

  • @SKYLARKo80 none. It's "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor

  • @SKYLARKo80 Master of montsers ^^

  • This is absolutely based on the truth . I used to live in Iran during this time, and I never ever forget those time.

  • i ve read thsi book 4 times its really nice

  • lmao! i just finished reading the first book now i'm going to go watch it! ♥

  • good

  • I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!!!

  • this movie is absolutely beautiful. the sad truth though

  • such a good movie... except the ending.. it was really wierd.. the rest was amazing, though

  • why weird? it´s life...open and you don´t know, what will happen again.

  • This was one of the greatest graphic novels I have read...loved every part of it!

  • TOTALLY WANNA SEE!!!!!!

  • This looks hillarious.

She sort of reminds me of Daria.

  • :D i loved this movie. They showed it to us in english this year

  • Animated movies aren't supposed to make you cry lol damn!

Seriously though, this movie was so beautiful. I watched it OnDemand when I was bored one night not expecting much because the description said animated but I'm so glad I got to see it.

  • what's the name of the song @ the begining of the trailer?

    This movie rulez!

  • such a true and beautiful movie

  • Can price, as every french movie lol ^^

But it's a good movie howerver

  • MY KIDS LOVE IT.....

  • HAHAHAHAH i really want to see this!!

  • This is a marvelous film. The animation is charming; you forget that it's mostly black and white, and remember only how beautiful it is. It is both bleak and hilarious, chilling and human. Watch Full Movie Here BigOnlineMovies . c o m

  • Why not with real actors>>>>??? why they decide it to make it cartoon?

  • They wanted it to look like the images in the Graphic Novel. It definatley does (anyone who has read the novels can tell)

  • probably because the book is a graphic novel

  • @kondurperusix 1) Because the movie is from comics Marjane Satrapi wrote.

    2) Because I think making a movie like that in Iran would be difficult

    3) 'Cause it's original and a movie would be way less great

  • one of the best films of my lifetime and of generations ahead

  • i saw it yesterday for the first time. magnificant

  • This movie is a master piece.

  • We watched this in our English class too, great film!

  • I'm watching this in my English Class, it's such a great book. I can't wait to finish the movie next class! I came on here in search of it. ^.^

  • its really great !

  • its the best film i have ever seen!!!!

    its funny but not only...

some sceans are very sad... =(

the film shows really how it is or was

  • This is undoubtably one of the best animated foreign animated films of all time.

  • Great movie, and this trailer makes me smile (: I just wish it didn't suggest that blonde dude is the love of her life or something... he was such an ass!

  • if your look at the video response i uploaded the film

  • No. try WATCHING the movie

  • No1 has uploaded it in english!

  • there re english subs up, and its that way in the first place. besides your comment was REALLY offensive. so iranians don't "know" democracy, and need to go to europe to "learn" it? Iranians have DIED for democracy. again if you WACTCHED the movie, you would know this

  • ok ok god sorry i didnt know

  • Also i dont know where to watch it!

  • Vive le France!

  • on the tigeeeeeeeeeeer,,,great movie

  • My dad loves this movie, I still haven't seen it though. He and my family escaped to America during the revolution.. I hope everyone's okay over there now...

  • it looks good i just cant read subtitles for an hour and a half

  • lol, you are weak

  • i know i am i dont watch old movies foren movies or black and wite or not if they are full screen ya im week sause

  • i have read both books and they r amazing. but can plz someone help me with these few questions?

is there 2 movies? like bookks persepolis1 and 2?

    is there both in English?

is English version out yet or its coming out?

  • There is only one movie, but it covers both graphic novels. You can watch it in English, and the dubs are awesome. They even got Iggy Pop to voice Anoosh for the English version. :) And it's been out for a while now. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

  • Just deal with it. So what if it isn't in English? Don't make a big deal out of it.

  • This movie is awesome I love it, it a must see but they did skip alot from Persepolis 2. Damn it if only youtube had the whole movie.

  • u could upload it

  • I just finished reading the graphic novel just last night. It only took me a few hours. Once I began reading I was hooked and couldn't put it down! It's so amazing!!

  • @twytch95 if you liked this read ranma 1/2. its alot like this. funny, romantic and everything.

  • I loved this movie, it was funny, moving, exciting, everything that a movie should be.

  • That wasn't an Iron Maiden Song. the song is called Master of The Monsters. you can download it with the film's soundtrack as well the movie from any torrent website...

  • this is my favorite ive seen it like 5 times

my favorite part is when shes buying the mix tapes and that one vender said "jiahcle mackson"

  • Never seen the movie probley going to see it next week at school, but I had read the book.I Love this book, I read the first one and finish the second one today.Thank god persepolis2 had a good ending :).

  • I read the book... never saw the movie though

  • do they have the whole movie on youttube

  • of course not

  • i think this is nothing compared to waltz with bashir.

  • Waltz with Bashir was so concerned with being surreal and artistic I think it lost a lot of momentum rendering it, in my opinion, a little 'slow' (for lack of a nicer word). I haven't seen this but I just finished reading the first book and apart from the fact there is a war at the heart of it I am not sure if the two a really comparable. This one has a humour about it. 'Waltz' was as dry as the desert!

  • waltz with bashir has its humor as well, but you are right, then again i think persepolis is a little immature, but thats just my oppinion..

  • did u read the books man

  • nope. and i wasnt refering the book either.

  • I love the graphic novel and I so want to watch this movie.

  • whats the name of the iron maiden song?

  • it is kinda of sad how we say poor iran when it happens in many western civilisattions aswell

  • I read the comic books and it was very good.

I didn't know the Iranian youth were that frustrated, he he.

No wonder it's sex, drugs and rock and roll behind closed Iranian doors all over the country. All under Ahmadinejad's beard!

Plus he and his cronies know all about it but can't do shit! They don't wanna another revolution, ha ha!

  • I know I saw the film and it made me think about the pilght that these poor people have to go thourgh in order to live. I thought the film was funny, sad but at the same time very truwe to life in the middle east and I really enjoyed it.

  • arrrg, it was on telly tonight and i missed it...

  • damn unlucky, i only found it by mistake when i was lookin through my 5 channels :o

  • OH SNAP!!! IRON MAIDEN!!! I wonder if she liked ACDC too....

  • i loved this book

  • Great Movie

I am currently learning French and it helped me learn a bunch of new words

  • same

  • this looks awesome.

  • i read this book, yeah? i just grabbed a random book off the shelves of my library, cause we had to read something and write a report. i found out what it was about, and i thought it would be boring.

but to be honest, it's now one of my favourites. i learnt alot too.

    :)

  • That was an awesome story, tell it again! : D

  • nice little true account of growing up under the shadow of a oppresive religion...wood have liked to seen the start of her comic book career....imagine being born in sunny iran.......yikes

  • LOL 0:30 Michael Jackson?!

  • i love this movie, its one of my favorites

  • 1:13 is funny they scratched out the naked lady ahaha

  • it's like they created a movie and they have no idea about what they're talking about !!

  • like you?

  • i really doubt your an iranian who was there for the war and revolution?

  • i loved the movie and the book, very well done.

  • Yea this was a great movie

  • Which is the song by Iron Maiden? Not Eye of the Tiger, the first one

  • ...loved this movie!

  • I am an American teacher currently residing in Dubai. There is news for Iranian nationals.

It will soon be easier for Iranian students between the ages of 16 to 21 to get visas to study in America. The process takes a few years to complete. If you have an Iranian passport, and you would like to begin a new life in the United States as a university student, please respond to this message.

Those entering the fields of nursing and education have the highest chances of success.

  • I love it at 1:14 "The birth of venus"

I'm amazed they didn't scribble the hair!

    I love persepolis!

  • lol i know right? You cant even see half the painting aaahahaha

  • wow i pictured the movie more like the book but this just looks more creepy and disturbing

  • you must read the graphic novel for complete and deeper story

  • amen!

  • i love this film coz' i kno what it's already about i know everything about iran and the revolution that took iranian people's freedom

  • my husband is from iran, and he said that before the revolution, people still didnt have thier freedom, because muslims could not practice thier own freedoms, women would have thier Hijabs (Scarvs) pulled off by the Shah's helpers and they would get beaten up if they wore the hijab, and now the muslims got the power and i guess its a reaction for what they used to go through by not having the riight to practise thier own religion in thier own country...

  • yeah, right, theyr owr country... like iIndia was the own country of the british.

the most funny thing about muslims is they dare to call "imperialists" the U.S.A. Israel... China... and till here may just the elephant that calls the tapir "big nose"

they call imperialists even philippine, thailand, Vietnam... and this is the best proof that such religions has not a good relationship with reality

  • I remember reading this!!!!but the movie is suposed to be great!

  • the movie was payed as a part of an arts festival at my school this past monday and i loved it!

the movie made me laugh, cry and really think about war, peace and life!

    a must see for EVERYONE!!!

  • Forget CGI, this is what animation SHOULD be. The "amazing visuals of Ratatouille" are those which make it look so realistic, it hardly feels like watching a cartoon! In all honesty, I found Ratatouille quite dull. It wasn't bad, but I expected it to be better.

    Persepolis should have won, period.

  • ι ℓσνє тнιѕ мσνιє

  • Damn, how did I miss this movie? I was watching The Other Boleyn Girl on dvd this morning and I felt like watching trailers, and I see this awesome trailer. I never even knew this movie existed until today. And its based on a graphic novel too.

I MUST SEE AND READ PERSOPOLIS.

Also, how the hell do you automatically think its a kids movie? Just because its animation? Go watch a hentai and tell me its too heavy to be a kids show.

  • ooo que interesante...

  • I watched it today at school and I enjoyed it very much. It's a very good film.

  • Meh, can't believe I missed this movie when it was local. Thought it was another art-fag film considering the venue it was playing, but now I gotta say I'm interested.

    To Blockbuster!

  • What song is in the beggining?

  • i think this lost because it was to heavy for a kids movie and the whole catergory of animation is geared towards children unfortuneatly

  • No, animation can be geared towards any audience. It's generally thought to be for children. It's not supposed to be a kid's movie. It says PG-13. I see this kind of perspective for anime as well. People in the US don't realize what deep storylines anime can have because it's animation and they automatically think it's for children.

  • How did this awsome movie lose to Ratatouille!!!! wow.

  • apples and oranges

  • Because Ratatouille has really good 3D animation, people love to show it to their families and especially children and it's funny. And that's what matters to people sadly, I suppose... People think animation is for kids, they think having serious storylines make it awkward I guess. Darn animation discrimination~

  • ya ii agree theres definitley mature animation but people dont get that

  • I thought Persepolis was a LOT funnier than Ratatouille. It's better in just about every way, really.

  • hermoso, quiero ver la pelicula...

  • la pelicula es bien chistosa

  • By the way, it was VERY disgusting that Ratatouille won (and who says the academy awards aren't political?)

  • Ratatouille won not for politics, but because it was a great movie, Not just aesthetically gorgeous, but it was a gorgeous story, that deserved to win. PERIOD. Persepolis was also a fantastic film, and could have won as well, it was one of those unfortunate cases were two films deserved to win.

  • I completely see where you're coming from and I enjoyed Ratatouille VERY MUCH myself, it was cute and funny BUT.. how many times will we see the same story told over and over with a different talking animal trying to help a human or humans? It's time for traditional ANIMATED films with a striking story to win again. Again, I enjoyed Ratatouille but it's the same ol' song for me.

  • Don't forget Sony Entertainment and their CG contributions. Forget if the films were great or bad, but look at Final Fantasy: Spirits Within and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

  • Ratatouille winning over Persepolis is absolutely garbage. I don't care how good Pixar is presenting their aesthetics these days, Marjane gave this stuff deep meaning.

  • damn pixar wins EVERY YEAR. finding nemo beat two beautiful traditionally drawn films (triplettes of belleville and brother bear)...its fucked in the head.

  • You saw Finding Nemo though, right? That movie was just about as spectacular as the other nominees. I was actually rooting for Nemo. However, I do think all the constant CGI stuff is getting out of hand. Pixar is, in my opinion, the only studio that makes quality stuff. Everything else is crap in comparison. oh ok and Shrek was good too...

  • Eh, I honestly didn't think it was that great. It entertained me but I wasn't all that impressed with it. Especially considering how common CGI films are these days. But I agree with you, Pixar is the only studio who has talent in that specific area. They started it, they're the masters. Every other studio needs to give it up. Especially with all of this new crap coming out like Kung Fu Panda and Igor. Oh please.

  • I did appreciate this film for what it is. However, the only part I absolutely disliked was the eye of the tiger montage within the film.....using it in the trailer is a mistake.... otherwise good film

  • I loved the part "The Birth of Venus" All they showed was the face. I know why that was done.

  • That movie was awsome, id love to see more traditional animation get as much fame as this movie did but alas ...

By the way does anyone know which iron maiden song was in this

  • Yo Num Nuts the metal song the starts with the guy laughing is the iron maiden song i want to know

I know eye if the tiger song because she sing the line "Hes got the eye of the tiger" retard!

  • you need to watch the movie to understand why its like that did you nitice she young when shes taling to that guy and shes old when shes singing

  • yeah this movie is awesome! i want to read the novel.

  • That looks like an awesome film! (:

Well, soo, yeah... totally fuck all the people who are making it into some stupid political...bullshit (Sorry, but i cannot think of another way to put it.) Anyone not interested in Bullshit mongers political prop, Cool. Hook me up sometime because YouTube seems to be full of these stupid dicks. :)

  • but this movie IS very political. and that's OK. It's good to talk about issues.

  • whoever that was singing needs to keep their day job...but nonetheless this movie does look pretty good
