  • Seems like your problem might be a bit simpler,

it might be the TVIS butterflies flapping. Turns out its a common problem on the 85-86's.

  • I think it just needs a valve lash adjustment cause since its only making the knock at idle that usually means something in the valvetrain is off cause when it starts reving the valves will naturaly get adjusted with compression and there will be less or no sound.Actual rod knocking would get louder as revs increase the same with piston slap and spun bearings.

  • Doesnt seem like a rod knock, shouldnt it get worse when the engine rpm is raised if it were a rod?

  • ERES UN PINCHE NACO JODIDO POR ESO TIENES MOTORES VIEJOS. PENDEJO JODIDO MUESTRAME TU CARA MARICON Y VAS A VER QUE SE SIENTE AMAR A DIOS EN TIERRA AJENA

  • i had that problem too i had to overhaul the entire motor. but my motor has 197xxx miles too

  • spun bearing..not rod knock..yet! lol!

  • rod knock, you will need a rebuild bro..

  • you have the same problem as me i had to tear down my 1988 mr2 and rebuild the entire engine!

  • that one fucked enigine now the bearing has spun and now it goneso now the crank is fucked the connecting rod is fucked get a new fucken car

  • car is totaled! so I now need a new car! but the engine is still running strong even with this crappy knock lol

  • @ReplacingBox

Did you find out what was the knocking sound was? Thanks!

  • @bongborin I think it was an exhaust leak on #1 on the exhaust manifold, but never found out since the car was rear ended and totaled

  • @bongborin

Thank you. I did a compressions test on all four cylinders (from 1-4) and the it show 161, 161, 147, and 161. I disconnected the TVIS vacuum hose, but the noise is still there. It's loud., The noise is about 80-100 dB. We removed the valve covers to check for worn camshaft, but it's okay. Now I think it's the timing belt tensioner.

  • hmmm. A 4-AGE engine!!!

  • it sure is! I've been red lining this baby all day every day and it's been almost a year and it's still running strong lol

  • this guy goes around on a bunch of people's videos acting like his pos can beat anything. you cant even maintain your car! next time try not letting it run low on oil, your bearings will appreciate it.

heh, seems like the only thing u can kill is your motor.

  • I never said my car was fast, c'mon it's bone stock. It was fast back in 1985! You're the one bragging that your "1000rwhp" supra can beat anything and it couldn't keep up with a stock evo!

  • alright boys, lets stop arguing over whose cock is bigger.

  • well, mine is two inches . . . from the floor haha

  • Forget about the torque-less 20v, go ahead and get the GZE.

  • yup it's my baby

  • yep its time for a rebuild.

  • this is the toyota thats faster huh, wow i would love to see this against my truck.

  • LOL

  • Ah poor 16v. Sounds like rod knock yup. Good excuse for GZE/20v :P

  • I'll go silver top 20v but I love this 16v :(
