@SlappaDeBassMon well in my earlier days third eye was a doosey to learn purely because of all the parts there are, also aenima will always be a more difficult pattern to perform correct as seen here and flawlessly. But really its all about the new stuff, Rosetta Stoned is by far one of the most insane drum lines he's created. And well as the years pass and Danny perfects his craft even more, it becomes harder to reproduce. But the fact that he makes us try is truly a testament to his talent.
in my opinion Ticks and leeches may be the most insane drum line and lead drum i have ever tried to play. only a certain few can pull it off flawlessly
wanna play like this? get stick control, new breed, 4-way coordination and advanced techniques for the modern drummer. oh yea, and you'll also need a talent, 16 hours a day and God-like skills.
@drump1ayer he is referring to the material used in the drum shells.. like maple or beech or what have you. those drums sound huge. danny doesn't like muffled drums. too bad the kind i can afford are going to sound like ass if i let them ring :p
what the hell? In the beginning when he starts doing 8th notes on the hi hat, he is still doing a double bass quad, how the hell....guess thats danny carey for you haha
Instead of being "floor tom/kick 1/kick 2" (RH RF LF) as a triplet, it becomes "floor tom/kick 1/kick 1" (RH RF RF) as soon as the 8th note hi-hat comes in, so it's a double-stroke with the right foot to complete the inner partial of the triplet, if that makes sense.
@SymbioticMonarch Actually its something ive also come up with which is one of the advantages of being a tall drummer. I am 6"1 and thus have size 14 feet. Im sure danny has some giant ass pedal to do the heel toe he does which is amazing but when your tall and have big feet heel toe is really fukn hard. Aside from that if you have big enough feet and have your hi hat and slave pedal (or second bass drum pedal) next to each other you can play both at the same time. thus he does the same pattern
@babadef I don't think Danny uses heel-toe? And I know he uses Pearl Eliminators, so not some "giant ass pedal". When the hi-hat comes in, he just plays a double-stroke with his right foot to complete the inner partial of that triplet.
Besides, heel-toe is for pussies, and almost always comes out sounding uneven dynamically.
@SymbioticMonarch to me it looks like he doesnt do the double stroke with his right foot. The second part of the double stroke lands where the hi hat lands so he just plays the second part with his foor on both the bass drum and hi hat pedal. Im not entirely sure if he uses this but as for its possibility i do this all the time so i know its something doable. Also his legs are doing either doubles or heel toe on 2:40 ish
i cought his gatorade at the hamilton copps show lol i kept it i threw it out eventually see if can get better next concert lol whenever that will be, but shit his drums are just beautiful amazing set up
OMG. I was one of the people who won a paiste symbol at the end of the concert. Signed by Danny Carey w/ a heptagram drawn HUGE on the back around his signature. This was truly and amazing experience. I LOVE Danny Carey. Definitely why Tool is a confusing genius. MECHA-LEKA-HI-MEKA-HINI-HINI-HO!!!!
haha....when I saw him there in 2003, the same thing happened to me. My memory card at the time was a lousy 32 MB and my camera didn't have audio. But I still got to record the ending solo for The Grudge, check my videos.

When Danny plays, he looks like water that has taken the form of a human.
