  • Hi,

A great cover of a great song. I don't play myself so my quetion is: When playing do you always play exactly the same or do you keep the beat / rhythm and then improvise with the fills depending on how you feel? Does it depend on the song? I'm a fan of Bob Dylan and he seems to be able to play and sing a song differently every time.

    Cheer's,

    Ade.

  • @Ade987654321 Very good questions. It's a fine balance of covering what's on the recording & expressing oneself. Most good songs play themselves on drums, it's a matter of finding the groove. The ride patterns & snare beats are usually the same as the recording, but it's in the fills & bass drum patterns where the self-expression finds itself. So yes, it's pretty much as you put it. Dylan, yes, I was watching the Tom Petty documentary last night & Dylan's way of playing things in the moment.

  • really great!!!!!!! do you teach these old rock and roll songs.where do i find your web site alvtray22@yahoo.com

  • @ripper76009 I'm working on a web site, it's not up yet. I'm hoping these videos I upload demonstrate how the songs are played, especially one as simple as this one. Thanks for watching and your encouragement.

  • really great!!!!!!! do you teach these old rock and roll songs.where do i find your web site

  • hit hat....open? close?

  • @00PsYcHoBiTcH00 Isn't it obvious? Listen again, clue: the verses & choruses are different.

  • @rhythmantic yes, sorry :P I'm new at this

  • @00PsYcHoBiTcH00 No need to be sorry, I just thought the sound of the hi-hat was audible enough to be able to tell whether it's open or closed, but I guess it's not, depends on what kind of audio system it's being played on.

OK, so In the verses the hi-hat is closed and on the choruses it's half-open (loose). Hope that helps. And thanks for checking out the video.

  • @rhythmantic thank you very much! =)
