Gaylord appeared in concert at the San Diego FOX Theatre several times. He also recorded one LP album there. I don't recall that he played at the California. He also did a coujple of silent movie shows on the Spreckles Memorial Organ in Balboa Park.
i believe he came to the old california theatre in san diego occassionally...they once had a big organ there and did shows with silent films . not many like him anymore
One has to realize that this was only one segment of a studio show, so he logistics of doing a remote would have been too great. The organ was supplied by the dealer who would have only had time to roll it into the studio and plug it in. It would have had to be used with its self-contained speakers with probably only one mic picking up the audio. That's the reality of TV talk shows.
Gaylord Carter's great, but the Allen isn't quite so great. It's too bad they didn't do this in a theater like the Orpheum in LA, or somewhere with an actual organ, Carter would have sounded so much better. Oh well, at least his Allen sounded better than Virgil Fox's Black Beauty.
what a great artist...seen in san diego at california theatre.
