@LemonheadFr its pre-recorded, he probably recorded it there and now he's playing along to whichever his best performance was, it's more time efficient since they're already happy with their performance and don't have to keep redoing it; In fact, that amp behind probably isn't even on, the real one is probably in a totally different room so it can be Mic'd without any outside sound being picked up by the Mic, so all he can hear is a small monitor.

If you know music theory, you can look at tabs and know you're playing a DMaj7 or any other chord, melody, etc. Tabs are for those who don't care for the theory behind what they play. Im sure youre a good one, but, composing and playing it by ear is way better when we are talking about just practicing at the studio or home. I get what you're saying entirely. Learning to compose music properly is something lost on modern musicians. But whatever works for them is awesome. As for the nyquil, that blows. (I was making a lame joke with that one)
