I remember this song so well. i had just come through an unpleasant divorce and met a guy who I knew wasn't a long term prospect but what a lovely summer we had. He restored my faith in men, kindness and hope for the future. Much happiness Geoff wherever life took you xx
I remember that summer well...7 weeks of a hosepipe ban and scorching hot weather, remember this song well, thanks for posting, good quality sound too.
wow, left school in 96, was learning guitar and this came on the TV. VH1!!! I sang it till my parents said , "STOP, OR MOVE OUT! " Still singing it now in my flat. (This was a dramatization bought to you my me")
was just watching an old clip of eastenders from 1997 and guest what was playing in the background. i had to youtube the song straight away. dad was in to squeeze back in the day amongst other bands. it really takes me back to when i was a kid.
why cant they make videos like this just normal happy ones the pop stars now spend millons on videos and half the songs fail to make the top 20 so whats the point?
This is great Glenns voice is better and better saw them in July in Liverpool with the Pretenders (and Peter Kay). Can't wait to see them again new album next year Chris must be writing it now....Great band
1995 was the hottest summer in England that I remember. This song would have been number 1 had it had been released in June. It was released late August just as the weather broke and it started to piss down.
Haven't listened to this song since breaking up with my girlfriend in 1997, as it always used to remind me of her. Good to hear it again after so many years.
check out "some fantastic day", allegedly written for a very good friend of the band, that Glenn lived with in Eltham and she later died, amazinglyrics and for the chap who wanted the correct lyrics in Up The Junction they're "the devil came and took me, from bar to street to bookie" not Barter Street to Boogie!
I was in lower 6th when it came out. It got loads of radio airplay but did nothing in the charts. Top tune.

My first trip to the UK was the summer of 96. Reminds me of the trip and all the people I met and have stayed friends with all these years.
