No your all wrong....302 is a ford....same as 351, and 352. Then you have the 351 Windsor, and 351 Cleveland which is also made by ford. 305, and 350 is Chevy. Pretty much the only 2 alike engines are the 360 made by dodge, as well as ford. I should know been a mechanic going on 17 years now!

Well, chevrolets first v8 was in 1917 it was a 288CI OHV v8. I believe it was a flathead before the ford flathead engine. I know i left some engines out but ive never heard of a 302 chevy untill the guy told me. You left out the 307, and the 265.

(stevenRayBarton) its your timming loosten that hold down bolt under your distributor enough to were its tight but you can turn it by hand. Start your rig and let warm up then try turning it counter clock wise about a inch. Should fix your problem if not and gets worse try opposite way its deffinatly the timming and its very easy if it runs strong and all is good but idle is a little high no worries just turn out the idle screw and your set hope this helps

i have a question to any of you, my 78 silverado (350) idles real high and it rarley kicks down even after letting it warm up or driving it around, and when i park it after driving i shut it off, take the key out and it starts chuggin and chuggin and then some sort of backfire happens like a bunch of air rushes out from some where. im no mechanic but if any one has any idea what the problem is, it would shure help before i go messing with somethin that isnt even the problem. thanks.

But thats all that was wrong with mine, I now have a 350, blew the 305 up racing a S10 V8 swap. I won too, just spun a rod bearing :(
