  • Lots of people have said this already but... This song isn't about police brutality, so the pictures in the video make no sense at all... it's about domestic violence, which is obvious to anyone who's experienced such a situation..

  • Speechless...

  • wicked song love sophie xxxxxx

  • I don't really understand the video with this song? It's about the failure of police action in domestic violence incidents. I was really confused, at first I thought maybe this was footage of a domestic violence protest, but no it seems to be about police brutality... It's the wrong song for this footage or vice versa... I don't mean to be critical but it just doesn't sit right, both issues are hugely important but this seems to be a huge misinterpretation of the lyrics...

  • I remember this song coming out many years ago and around the same time a woman called Mary had been killed in my area, a small woman who's husband had swung her against the wall by her ankles... In Britain the domestic abuse policies have changed drastically since then thank goodness.... I have just seen the message by HotheadAradia and can only hope that things have changed in Spain and other places too.

  • amazing very deep, but fantastic.

  • i was the lastnight!

  • wow i just came across that soul song all ill i can say forgive me Tracy i love it

  • i just heard a woman scream at my neighbors. it's not the first time...should i f*cking call or not? i'm scared to do that but idk...domestic abuse at 311?..f*ck

damn this stage in human history.

  • police took time for me,i had ear bitten off ,only my kid phoned police!no1 else"

  • and if ppl had answerd the screaming, i wouldve had 1ear more instead of it being bit off!!but no1 answered my screams except mt kids!

  • and the nieghbours did nothing!only my kids!so they herd the screaming

  • Can't help but think of my past when i hear this, and count my blessings that i found the strength to leave - Makes me feel strong now ! :D Thankyou Tracy ! Respect !!!

  • Thank you for writing a song about Domestic Violence..I am a survivor and wouldn't want anyone, woman, man, or child to live this life

  • It's not that hard to find. buy it on iTunes.

  • i'm a lifetime tracy chapman fan. i love how you've represented this song. i wish more people caught on to tracy. she's a beautiful singer.

  • What one of her albums is this on? Amazing song, very powerful

  • the album i have it on is just called tracy chapman

  • its only incomplete by the tinyest bit and is the best version iv found so far on youtube so thanks for the upload

  • Life got u down. Check out Coloria "Let Go"

  • i luvv her voice and her sience of music

  • she is really amazing!!

  • she is a amazing singer

  • Awfully hard to sound really good without music. But she does.

I hate domestic violence! I think people who do it should be locked up for a long time. Saddly that isn't the case.

Even people who beat their kids, hardly ever get sent down unless they kill one of them. But they send people to jail for doing cocain. It doesn't really seem like justice is being served. When a guy was locked up for life for stealing a pizza, and bastards who beat their wives get off scot free.

  • She has such a tuneful voice, we acted to this song in drama at school cos we're doin bout domestic violence, it makes you think, x

  • this poetic song helps us appreciate, but also helps us mourn, for the incociterate and deceived, selfish thoughts of the men who murder their wives. the incoherent thought of someone that selfish prove that we should let the police interfere with a man and womens fisical actions such as beating eachother, or kiling. it hurts to see what can become of love.

  • I tried to sing it, but only the beginning.....

    I like only the beginning........

    Nice video.*****

  • great song ny a great artist

  • I love this song !!!(L) its my favorite

  • This video is a distortion, a twisting, even a manipulation perhaps. The song is about gender violence that women suffer only for being women. It`s about machismo and misoginy. It`s for the 92 women murdered by her partners or ex partners after years of torture at home in Spain. Not about police brutality in a demonstration. But yes about impunity and police indifference when a woman is raped or murdered.

  • However, Duchounette thanks dor the song

  • I totally agree with HotheadAradia, The message of this song should not be lost - it is about violence against women and also about the lack of state protection from such violence.

  • @HotheadAradia u r soo correct!

  • @HotheadAradia She can use the lyrics in any way she choses. Thats the beauty of art.

  • ty this helped me with my drama home work

  • this is a very important video. Thank you.

  • thank you too

  • i love you chapman!

  • One of my favorite songs from the talented Tracy Chapman.

  • Last night I heard the screaming

    Loud voices behind the wall

    Another sleepless night for me

It won't do no good to call

    The police

    Always come late

    If they come at all

  • Last night I heard the screaming

Then a silence that chilled my soul

    Prayed that I was dreaming

When I saw the ambulance in the road

    And the policeman said

"I'm here to keep the peace

    Will the crowd disperse

I think we all could use some sleep"

  • Last night I heard the screaming Loud voices behind the wall Another sleepless night for me It won't do no good to call The police Always come late hey If they come at all And when they arrive They say they can't interfere With domestic affairs Between a man and his wife And as they walk out the door The tears well up in her eyes

Last night I heard the screaming

    Loud voices behind the wall

    Another sleepless night for me

It won't do no good to call

    The police

    Always come late hey

    If they come at all

  • Heyah everyone check out EmmaB979's version of this in my opinion its better than the original but anyways yeah check out her videos and comment her xxx kisses Laurah xxx

  • Stupid. For some reason its the polices fault and not the people who cause the problem. The police serve and protect but would you risk your life to save a random officer? They do it for you. So if a burglar breaks into your house, call your lawyer because the police wont come according to this song.

  • This is a song about years ago in america, when a black couple would have an argument, but the police would never come. I mean WTF, have you never heard of Apartide, dumb ass... do ya homework before you post.

  • R.I.P. TTB

  • i was thinkin of puttin th ecomplete version on but i wernt sure

  • this son

just brought tears to my eyes

  • i have the CD of this

  • Info Update:

Tracey Chapman actually expiriences all of her songs, the lyrics of her songs are all of what she has seen/done. So for your information, If you could just a little concideration of those that actually get beat about, and cheated on, left etc...

  • Thats what a great singer she is!! she dosent need music!! great!

  • this video doesn't match!

  • what do yo mean by doesn't match ? About the pictures ?

  • this song is about violence at home, between man and wife..these pictures are about violence and problems between citizens and authorities...

  • Yes I know that :) with these pictures, I would like to show that the police is not effective when there's a problem at home between man and wife, but they are always here for swipe and kid around people... I hope you will understand what I mean, cause I don't speak english often enough, so it's labored for me.

  • I think you would need to pan the images faster, and add images of domestic violence or battered-looking women with men who are not police to go with your pictures of police using excessive force. Your point is lost to us because you include no images of domestic violence. It just comes across looing like you don't understand the song.

  • It's the truth, we all know it...That's why I love this song so much

  • ya your right

  • This song really represents alot thats going on in our society. Its chilling, but its only chilling because its real, and we all know it.
