@Thunderbolt1000Tfan 10/12 Port Allertors have that (Thunderbolt Roar) sound. The 10/12 Port Chopper has that 500AT sound or XT22 sound but because of the shape of the horn, it makes that deeper roar sound.
How many Allertors did Mason City use to have, why is the one seen not sounding, how do the Allertors that are heard and seen different, and how many miles apart are the Allertors?
@jackviolet21 at the time they were taken down, mason city had 5 allertors. one of which was defunct before it was ever removed. the view in this video is a picture taken in 2006 of the newly installed 2001 next to the already disconnected allertor. this allertor is not the one in the recording. this particular one was 3 miles from me. the one in the recording was a half mile and the thunderbeam also heard was a mile.
Wrong. This is a 10/12 port Allertor. They have a very distinct sound, different from the 2T22. The Mobil Directo also sounded exactly like this. Troy has another video on this channel where you can see the siren. Check it out.
the 2001 is no Match against the Allertor..its better in every way....it has that sound that just demands your Attention while the 2001 sounds like a Leaf Blower.
The 2001 looks like it's saying "Doi, is that a toilet on two poles?" and the Allertor is saying "They chose this piece of crap to replace me? Why couldn't it have been one of my younger brothers, the t-128s?"
Did they let the sirens run the entire duration of a warning? Sounds like they gave it a few seconds rest every once in awhile then it starts right back up again.
Well no... during regular warnings the sirens ran for 3 minutes and then shut down for 3 minutes and so on until the warning was over. but for this particular warning, because the tornado was just on the outskirts of town and rotation was detected in numerous areas of each of the cells, they ran the sirens almost continuously. A lot of sirens actually failed. The thunderbeam that you would have normally heard quite prominently (besides the allertor) actually had a stuck rotator and was facing...
well most of them are but for some reason we got these... the only thing i can think of is that Canada might have wanted the minor 3rd allertors because i think i remember hearing someone say that they had really strict civil defense rules, certain pitches the sirens could be and so on.. but like i say that is completely a shot in the dark...
The term is actually more geared toward music, dealing with pitches. Technically a minor 3rd is the musical interval (interval being space) of 3 semitones (3 half steps up on the music scale). If your familiar with the piano then think of playing middle C and E flat simultaneously. In the case of sirens its how the tone the siren puts out sounds. Most Allertors were made to sound in a perfect 4th which is 4 scale degrees or 4 notes UP from the tonic (the tone baring most importance.)
@TroySundt Sorry for responding to something old, but I have to get this across.
As far as I know, the 10/12 port ACA Allertor was a carry-over from the electric Mobil Directo, and used the same general design, same motor (I think), and also same chopper. The 8/12 port ones followed up in about the 1980s (probably incorrect), likely because of better sound coverage.
I don't think Canada had/has any Allertors still up on their poles and functioning.
Yeah. What I meant was, was the Allertor scrapped, did someone buy it, etc. It'd be such a shame if they were cut up for scrap metal, considering their rarity.
Where did you hear it? The people i've talked to(online) say that none are still active and the few that still exist have been disconnected. Such a shame.
@CarnelProd666 I guess here in White Bear, they really don't test their sirens in December (or January for that matter), although the county's website (Ramsey County, MN) says they test them year-round... there's a second Allertor in town that I haven't recorded yet, which I'll have to get to when the severe weather season rolls around again. It'll be on my list as the first siren I'll record this year.
@bytor55110 I would love to record a siren, but Canadians are at a disadvantage, though. I might try and see if Alliance's 2T22 is still functional, of course, that's a long drive from where I am.
Well they were very rare allertors made with 10/12 port choppers that gave them a 3rd minor tone. As far as I know they are the only ones made like this. Who knows they may have even been made by the old Beirsach and Niedermeyer company...
troy, i live in mason city ohio," kings island" and i'm gonna use i siren like yours in an upcoming video. also, i just changed my smoke detector like the one in your smoke detector video out.your ghosten me dude! PEACE!
They were all privately auctioned. My brothers friend tried to get me one.. im kinda glad he didn't because i would have NO clue what do do with one of these... its not like i could set it off... i guess i could have sold it on ebay...
i put another video on google video because every time i tried to put it on here it said there was an error. the one on google tho, is blowing in attack mode.
haha go ahead. they were pretty cool :( they were sooo huge too!!!!! i drove by the place they were all stored after they were taken down and they were bigger than the trucks parked next to them. the thunderbeams were pretty huge too.. these 2001s are dinky and annoying...
And I am Dan. No I am not Joshes brother or anything else other then a YT friend. I don't use The Siren Board that much. I use YT averyday or at least I try to.

why did it wind down 4 a few seconds at 0:39 and then wound back up at 0:48?
malfunction?
and it kept on going off instead of turning off after 3-5 minutes. does mason city keep the sirens going until the emergency passes?
rockman399 1 year ago
@rockman399 its kind of like a very long attack. it does it a couple time throughout the recording.

That sounds scary. WHich allertor is heard in this video? is it the one shown here?

No, it looks exactly like it though, same mounting and same color and everything but this one is at the ball diamond, the one heard is by my house.
TroySundt 2 years ago
Almost sounds like a Thunderbolt highly pitched, but t-bolts do not have a fast wind up like that, maybe an XT22, no, its rotating....hmmmmmmm.
czk310 2 years ago
sounds like a 2T22...
KSE828 2 years ago
That's a nice looking 2001 siren, but too bad the allertor ahd to be replaced. You don't often see 10/12 port allertors.

Poor allertors. :,(
I hope they found good homes elsewhere, and not the scrap yard.

opposite my house. I think the thunderbeam on the north end of town actually failed completely. It was soon after this that the sirens were replaced.
TroySundt 2 years ago
@TroySundt
The ThunderBeam's design probably contributed to its downfall; it wasn't really practical. I could se how it would fail.

TroySundt 2 years ago
That would most likely be the 25hp gas powered one.
Antipwnsurmum 2 years ago
I think I have an answer to your question.
The Allertor 130 was the predecessor to the Allertor 125. They were all 10/12 port, and projected 130 Db at 100', I think.
zozey1231 2 years ago
I think, haha. I told you that! Yes, it was the predecessor and was 10/12 and outputed 130 DB.
