@skrashen They aren't national standards, the Federal government has not mandated them. States chose to adopt them if they want to.
The CCSS does not propose any additional testing, in fact it does not propose a schedule for testing at all.
Because the CCSS is a free resource for whatever states chose to adopt it and does not yet have any tests associated with it, there are no costs involved in "buying" standards or test.
Money spent on education will help reduce poverty.

There is no evidence that national standards and tests will improve student learning.
The amount of testing proposed is excessive & will not help learning.
The cost of standards & tests will be enormous. This money could be spent to protect children from the effects of poverty, the real problem.

@skrashen I agree...almost. You can't spend money to protect children from the effects of poverty. What research would support that idea?
