  • It's very strange when you ask strangers what are they doing tonight? What college they went into? When you do business focus on business and talk about business not to ask them about their personal lives and talk about it for 10min. Excellent customer service is when you can provide them what they really needed like the sauce that they wanted for example and not to ask them so many personal questions. Give your customers privacy.

  • @rodorayyy I get it you want to be left alone. Waiters who get big tips know it isn't about getting things people ask for but being memorable.

  • Actually your teachings are wrong! customers does not want to be interviewed by the waiter. it's very irritating that you would be asking all of these personal questions when in fact, I just like to eat. This has been my personal experience. I hate waiters that talk too much.

  • @rodorayyy experience by successful servers proves otherwise.

  • Amen!

  • I want to believe you. I do. But, sometimes it truly feels as though whether you go out of your way or not, people are going to tip what they are going to tip. Now, you can screw up and get less of a tip, don't get me wrong. But, you can show them how they can "save money" by doing it "this way" or anticipating their needs by when they ask for bread (since you knew they would) you already have it on the tray. But when they leave $5 on $60, it makes you go, REALLY? What could I have done better?

  • @0Blink0 you have to always ask that, what could have I done better. I think many people are willing to tip minimally unless you stand out.

  • well number one is out of the question for me bc we don't have specials of the day ever

  • I would much rather starve in the street than wait on the public again. I truly mean that too!

  • I don't tip anyone getting a wage or who set a fixed rate for services period. If you make only tips and I mean no wage or set fee like a Busker then okay I might slip something if I like the service provided. Example if you have someone that cleans you car windows just for a tip slip them something like $1.00.

  • @clerickolter Please go die in a fire. Only trashy people don't tip. Continue not tipping = expect spit in your food from now on (I'm sure you've already had that happen).

  • @clerickolter How do you know who gets paid what? Servers remember people who don't tip and wether you know it or not something dreadfully disgusting has happened to your meal. I wonder how many servers ball sweat you have ingested?

  • what if a dude walks in with a shirt saying EFF america?

  • what if a dude walks in with a shirt saying Suicide Bombers Rule ??? lolz.

  • if a guy walks in with a Yankees t-shirt on, they gonna get slapped and a "bitch get up out my restaurant"

  • it also helps to analyze your customer. some people just LOOK like wine drinkers.. showing people where the deals are helps too. Oddly enough, sometimes when your bill is low, you will still get a relatively high tip.

Kids will most likely want an active part in their meal, so the 'create your own' meals and drinks are key. Kids love obscure things. Failsafe.

What REALLY gets 'em: as you are handing them the check to write the tip, say, "Thank you for being so courteous tonight" Psychology.

  • Get fake tits thats how you get good tips

  • Weak sauce! You want to make better tips in this economy, show them the deals.

  • Yeah...try all of that on a Friday night, when the wait is 2 1/2 hours, and you've got 15+ people asking for shit, at the same time....

Wanna make big tips, get what they need, and smile the whole time. Period.

  • @Mednicoff I do it all the time and I bartend and wait tables at the same time

  • Great Bob. I've been using this tips on pizza deliveries and my tips increased at least 20 to 30% more.

    Thanks

  • yeah but...A-Rod sucks...

  • thank u .

  • Something that's also worked really well for me is being honest with the customer. The management prefers that I don't do that, but customers love it and appreciate it a lot, and I get great tips because of it. If they ask how a dish is, and it's a dish that I'm not really a fan of, then I say, "It's good, it's just it's a little salty"

  • u just have to be really hot and not bug them. but make sure they get what they want and hopefully they enjoyed there meal

  • Thank You I may end up being a server!

  • i do this everyday. and i have learned no matter what, if people want to spend money, there gonna spend money. Ive kissed enough ass for change and i have to say what you say IS only PARTIALLY true... so servers that are watching this, feel out your tables. Dont bend over backwards for just anyone.

  • I should look for this next time I eat out.

  • if anyone who is a server doesn't already know this; they should get a new job.

  • Great ideas!!! Love it!!!

  • Great ideas, I can't wait to use them on my next shift.
