@thezombiekiller87. Wow my daughter has Williams syndrome a very rare genetic disorder that effects one out of every 20,000 people. She may never be able to tie her shoes but she is a musical savant. Since your ignorance proceeds you, savant means genius. U r a fucking inconsiderate asshole who should be so lucky to have half the integrity and strength my three year old holds in her big toe. @Lalansophie i bet your daughter plays beautiful music ^.^ my parents say that God made a little more special too, i'm a schizophrenic (stable though) with good artistic skill and musical ability. God bless you and your daughter ^.^ i wish you all the best

Being discriminated against is real and happens to many many people including me. I went to school and got a degree in Accounting (4) year degree and took computers and have 17 years of solid job experience and was in two car wrecks one in 1992 and one in 2006 and now cannot get any job. No matter what they look at me and lie to me about jobs that do not even exist. Temp agencies are evil and tell you about non existant jobs. I have been to 138 places to no avail. I hate Oregon. Thanks for posting this ad of how bad discrimination is among the disabled. I must admit there's a certain Fridge Horror to this video. Watching it back, it does look like the interviewers were playing with the applicant for shits and giggles. It's almost as if the interviewers were saying, "Lloyd might not like you because you're disabled! You might do things wrong! You're different and odd! Lloyd is scary and might make or break you..."
(awkward silence)
"Just kidding, he's just unnaturally prejudiced against house music. Haha, your face!"
@vitaedigest because the smartest are usually multi-billion airs and we dont even know of there existence not alone what they say. just kidding. I have a theory which is smarter people can stand up and fight for there case unlike the less fortunate, hence. eg. we would expect more from Einstein than an alcoholic. now thats discrimination and certainly not equal. Wise words: Never judge!
There is a grain of salt to be taken with this. While noone should be rejected purely on the basis of a disability, some disabilities do disqualify people from some occupations. Case in point: Down's syndrome sufferers have a median IQ of half that of the average population; ergo, someone with Down's syndrome with diminished cognitive capacities - not all, not even close - would be less qualified for some jobs, such as professorship, engineering, and so on. That said, there would be exceptions.
When was the last time you had to take an IQ test in an interview? Interviews should focus on whether the individual is the right person for the job - in this case, if the woman submitted a good application form, impressed the interviewers and appeared fully capable of doing the job, then there's no reason why she shouldn't do it. Also, IQ isn't a qualification - employers look at the actual qualifications (eg, NVQs, GCSEs) that people possess.
@vitaedigest you nailed it................i read somewhere....."the only thing necessary for evil to suceed in this world is for good men to do nothing".........

Disability and working is a hard thing for others who do not have a disability to recognize--self esteem, self-doubt, and people ranking (always comparing between you and another) disabled people really does have an effect on ALL of society. Where I live a Down syndrome person ina job interview would seem like something out of an episode of Star Trek it is so far ahead of its time. Where I live it seems like the Dark Ages. I have Asperger syndrome and have been discriminated in looking for a job many times
@vitaedigest. would you rather have a smart person running the show for a large company, or someone stupid? Think hard before you answer. (Consider the tough times we are in now...)
Lol what a stupid question. The world has always worked like that, since day one.
i suffer with Arthritis and heart disease and despite 6 years of Schemes i cannot find any part time work. i last worked 2005. its a nightmare being discriminated against. i am extremely mobile... bloody no life... am i the only one who finds it difficult? its a lonely life being rejected by so called healthy people. thank you.. from Ireland...
Pssshh! Sure you use a girl with DS...what about those with disabilities we can see? My sister has Aspergers and my brother has dyslexia & ADD. Ya, think about how many times they have been discriminated against...more than you prob think!! I think there should be a place on applications so that this doesn't happen and people will understand their situation.
In the US with laws like ADA, Civil Rights Act 64, Disability discrimination is rampant. Most states are "right to work" states. Companies can fire you for anything - the color of your shirt. Many (not all) companies hide behind this "right to work" to protect them from EEOC (disability) legal action. Job performance does suffer when you have to do 4 chemo treatments a day, like me. Cancer shouldn't be a blank check, but most of my requests for Reasonable Accommodation - denied. What to do?

In the UK, they would ot be allowed to discriminate on the basis of sexuality, so discriminating against a heterosexual (let's say) would be illegal. However, if it can be shown that the job holder HAS to be a gay man, discrimination is allowed. To use another example, I believe that a care home for severely disabled female residents would be allowed to only employ female staff, considering the nature of the work.
(However, if it can be shown that the job holder HAS to be a gay man, discrimination is allowed.) Gotta love the bias in that comment, minorities are treated like kings today, while the average white person is left high and dry, gotta love "equality". People want it, but then again want MORE for their certain race/sexual preference.
I have no mental health problems that I know of but I was-and sometimes still am-seen as a nerd. Discrimination hurts. Like they say, see the person, not the fact they understand how nuclear power works at 8(I'm 13 now)
I have Autism (HF), and I've experienced discrimination myself, that sometimes I had to resort to lying about myself just to get a job once. Once they found I had a disability, I'm gone, simple as that. Funny how society treats the disabled (both physically and mentally) like life's speed bumps, that we just slow people down. I'm sure disabled people are just as capable, if not more, than able people to get the job done since we have strong points. Don't diss my/our ability/ties.
Unfortunately it does happen here and in the USA hence the need to enforce the Disability Discrimination Act. One day everyone will be treat equally regardless of ability, race, creed, gender, etc.
In the UK, where this is made- if you state you have a disability on your application form, you SHOULD legally have an automatic right to get through to interview.
I wasn't being horrible about people with disabilities. Discrimination does exist (hence why this PIF was made in the first place) and contrary to what plasticineraindrops says, declaring problems on an application form just help the discriminators to weed out those they see as undesirable.
Screw you Kyber...I have Crohn's disease and people haven't been giving me an interview since I was made redundant from the MoD. When I was working for the government I had the condition and I was a harder worker than anyone else in the team I worked with in my office. I did more than my share of work during a time of base-transition and helped train new staff even when I wasn't on full hours...I thoroughly earned my bonus!! I can do an office job as good as the next man...weekness is bull...
Kyberspawn,Why do you assume the disabled are weak. I walk a mile three times a week on forearm crutches and lift weights. I also drive with hand controls. I'm pretty damn strong. Care to armwrestle?
We are a disability awareness organisation and we don't agree with this "right to an interview" just because of disability. People with disabilities want to be treat equally as able-bodied persons. Positive discrimination isn't equality, it giving disabled persons "special priviliges" which we do not need.
Not always..I've gotten interviews based on my skills and I have a physical disability. I'm now working PT as a narrator and working toward grad school.

Where I live a Down syndrome person ina job interview would seem like something out of an episode of Star Trek it is so far ahead of its time. Where I live it seems like the Dark Ages. I have Asperger syndrome and have been discriminated in looking for a job many times

@vitaedigest
@vitaedigest. would you rather have a smart person running the show for a large company, or someone stupid? Think hard before you answer. (Consider the tough times we are in now...)
Lol what a stupid question. The world has always worked like that, since day one.

@baronscarpia1.

RiggeDPuzzlE 2 years ago 8
Youre MORE capable? Who's discriminating now?

Nobody would say such things during an interview or definitely be sued whether the job is offered or not in America.
ABAisSCIENCE 3 years ago
Unfortunately it does happen here and in the USA hence the need to enforce the Disability Discrimination Act. One day everyone will be treat equally regardless of ability, race, creed, gender, etc.

And all that hassle just to be a tea lady...
daemon138 4 years ago
Why not? She has an equal right to work just like everyone else!
fraserkatie 4 years ago 37
The sad reality is that the lady concerned would not have even made it to an interview.
stevecooganfan 4 years ago
In the UK, where this is made- if you state you have a disability on your application form, you SHOULD legally have an automatic right to get through to interview.
plasticineraindrops 3 years ago
Why, no one has the right to a job, it makes no sense to choose the weak above the strong.
Kyberspawn 3 years ago
Hmmm, it seems you're right and wrong at the same time =s
Well, I suppose it makes sense when you don't see a policeman on a wheelchair and wheelchair users can do well on office or on Point Of Sale posts.
Cleric775 3 years ago
Interesting perspective, though sometimes those deemed 'weak' such as my son have extraordinary skills that surpass the 'strong' :)
polkadotpants 3 years ago 4
I wasn't being horrible about people with disabilities. Discrimination does exist (hence why this PIF was made in the first place) and contrary to what plasticineraindrops says, declaring problems on an application form just help the discriminators to weed out those they see as undesirable.
stevecooganfan 3 years ago
Everyone has the right to compete for a job. Try losing one because of discrimination yourself.
electrogeek77 3 years ago 2
Screw you Kyber...I have Crohn's disease and people haven't been giving me an interview since I was made redundant from the MoD. When I was working for the government I had the condition and I was a harder worker than anyone else in the team I worked with in my office. I did more than my share of work during a time of base-transition and helped train new staff even when I wasn't on full hours...I thoroughly earned my bonus!! I can do an office job as good as the next man...weekness is bull...
samuraikensai 3 years ago
Kyberspawn,Why do you assume the disabled are weak. I walk a mile three times a week on forearm crutches and lift weights. I also drive with hand controls. I'm pretty damn strong. Care to armwrestle?
roon41 2 years ago
We are a disability awareness organisation and we don't agree with this "right to an interview" just because of disability. People with disabilities want to be treat equally as able-bodied persons. Positive discrimination isn't equality, it giving disabled persons "special priviliges" which we do not need.
