@matt239k What is your reason for saying this guy is not good? Sings great, plays great... doesn't need to and probably doesn't want to sound EXACTLY like Dave.
my favorite song of all time. And it means a lot coming from someone who enjoys music of every genre.... techno, 70s 80s 90s rock, country, heavy metal... almost everything... This song is PARAMOUNT. You've done justice to it.
the verse strum is tricky, can you post what it is, I know it is 7/8 at 90 bpm, but am a rookie, hoping to pick this up as I know the chords, just can't get the rhythm, can you brake it down for a rookie, such as 7 beats per measure, are you using this:
down, miss, down,up,up,up,up in 7/8 at 90? for a newbie it's hard for me to just visualize and play, so if I could set a metronome to get the verse strum I would love it. And you totally rock at this song, sounds perfect to me.
Good job brother, as far as the type of guitar it doesn't really matter, I mean I play a 10 year old Alvarez ad6 and it sounds just as good as any $4000 Martin. Save your money people and pick the guitar based on feel, electronics can always be tinkered with and any acoustic will sound decent thru a good acoustic amp, Its the player not the guitar
Oh. To your ear, does it make a big difference if its brazilian rosewood? Cause I am thinking on buying a 914ce. I am also wondering how you think this guitar is compared to a good martin. Cause im stuck between Choosing Either a Martin D-41 Special or a 914ce.
Mine either...can't really listen to that song for some reason. Hell of a fingerstretch if you haven't played it in a while though. Neway, if you don't have the Piedmont park CD/DVD make it a point to check out the Dreaming Tree on there. Leroi's flute and Dave's riff at the end are very eerie, yet so peaceful.
On the "Standing here, the old man said to me, long before these crowded streets, here stood my dreaming tree, below it he would sit, for hours at a time, now progress takes away, what forever took to find", stay on D minor throughout.
Then on the "And now he's falling hard, he feels the falling dark" etc, start the chord progression of Dm, F#, C, Am...
Five stars! A personal favorite of mine! This is the most toutching interpretation of The Dreaming Tree i've seen so far in my life.

Can you post what chords you're playing... sounds like Dm-Bm (or something)-C-Am in the verse, but the bridge you're using is confuzzling

You made me remember why this is one of my favorite DMB songs :)
You have all these DMB covers but you don't have Crash Into Me....... This is one of the most covered DMB songs.

I think the first verse sounds better if you keep on the first chord of the verse and then start playing properly on the "And now he's falling hard".
