this challenger was DEFINITELY my favorite. not only was she truly a professional (being able to cook so much well-made dishes in just an hour) but she was so humble, polite, and confident. she took the contest seriously, but also enjoyed her time there and had fun. she's quite an inspiration!
I too offer my thanks for uploading this one. The other guy hadn't uploaded this one yet, and i've been wanting to rewatch this one for quite some time so thanks bunches :) I must say, this woman stood out from all challengers, even the other females with her speed of movement in the stadium :D It was quite unique watching her. The only other standout, being the one woman who challenged Iron Chef Sakai.
this is the tactful way of how women in Japan can appear to be submisive BUT in fact very independent, respected and powerful. It takes years of practive and experience. A lor of women can learn from Mrs Kobayashi
they shoulda just hired her for her own iron chef position on the show. with her recognition and influence...? shes just as iron as the all the other iron chefs!
Hahaha 8:30 when he asked if he was allowed to pick, I almost DIED laughing. She's such a sweet lady, super humble and respectful--I'm not used to the challengers being this way!
What Iron Chef America lack is this introductory element. It's almost as if the challenger is there for the sake of having an opponent. The viewer don't know enough about the challenger to care whether they win or lose. In ICA's case, people just want to see the iron chef win, but there's no point to the victory. Whom have they won over? Why is that such a big deal? There's no prestige to their win, or it's not emphasized as it is in the original. It got boring after the first season.
Morimoto is not gone, if they put Mechiba up in intro, that means Iron Chef in currently around 1-2 seasons. They had 3 Jap chef so far and Morimoto came after those 2 chefs retired.
Morimoto is not gone, he has not come on the show yet, Rokusaburo Michiba is the Iron Chef Japanese until he retired, Michiba didn't come on until later seasons.
@Guitar4God1 Morimoto-san is in 'Iron Chef America". This is just "Iron Chef" that was aired in Japan. They just dubbed over the voices in english so they could show it in America. After they noticed the popularity of the show Iron Chef they decided to make one here in america. Iron Chef America where Morimoto-san is an Iron chef.
@InuGoku@Guitar4God1 Wrong-o. Morimoto-san IS an iron chef from Iron Chef japan. BUT he shows up as the third iron chef japanese. First one wears blue, second one wears purple, and morimoto-san shows up in silver. He is the only iron chef from the original to carry over to Iron Chef America.
on a completely unrelated note, I hate this dubber-woman's voice...>.< they could've brought in a voice actor....
That, and I think she decided she liked the one-strap apron look, she's seen a lot wearing that, too.
But a thousand recipes a year? And over a hundred books. And she's never invented a recipe she didn't like....I'm deeply impressed, but it's baffling.
I'm still hoping someone puts it back into syndication. I've been watching Iron Chef America off and on, and I adore Alton Brown, but it's just not the same.
*facepalms for clicking the wrong button and now can't unclick* I *would* have voted this a thumbs up, not a thumbs down. Grr!
In more relevant commentary, that makes a bit of sense, but Living doesn't go out to all cable markets. And why would they change the music? That's just *odd*...
Iron Chef used music from the movie backdraft (composed by Hans zimmer) so they changed the music, largely due to legal rights of NBC Universal. according to wikipedia

This is one of my favorites. I also love the original theme music. Why did Cooking Channel have to change that to something lame?

They've replaced these musical interludes from "Backdraft" with new music, because of license infringement from NBC/Universal.

@mrmjb1960 Thank you for the info. I didn't know that. It is shame, though.

I think ICA was crippled by the fact they didn't have a reliable way to make things explode every episode.

Who's likely right, but I wonder why they didn't ask Zimmer directly.
'Course, to be fair, they might have, and been able to legally use it *then*, but NBC re-acquired rights on distribution, or something.
