saw them last night, they closed this festival with this song. Everyone else who had played that night came out and sang and the audience sang and it was one of those truly magical harmonious moments. I love the national...
i saw this in sydney the other night and i cant stop thinking about it. the most beautiful thing about this is the fact that Vanderlyle is just another album track, its not a big single or an indie anthem or anything of that sort. yet basically every person in the room knows every word (i know they're quite easy haha) you dont get that with pop concerts by chart topping commercial artists. people can say all they like about the album being dead but bands like The National will keep it alive.
Sums up the whole gig at Manchester Academy the other night; a gorgeous, heartfelt performance which really connected with everyone. Thanks so much for posting!
Amazing to have witnessed this in the flesh yesterday in Brussels except for the fact that I was still going "Bastards didn't play Abel or what?" when this started.
awesome. saw them do this at one of their Dublin gigs a year ago.

Anyone else notice that Bryan (the drummer/John Lennon) isn't wearing shoes?
