I've got the Carter carburator. The "dead spot" is probably a combination of me moving the throttle too fast, and the ignition not beeing fine-tuned yet since the distributor had been loosened.

ive recently restored a WW2 engine.
Mine was only a single cylinder 4 stroke generator though
still good fun..........its the first engine ive ever worked on
