Love seeing how they are still hand made, supporting real jobs - and manufacturing that hasn't been outsourced to some Chinese hellhole. I can wait a few months for a big stopper, and I am sure the incredible enthusiasm for DSLR's and related accessories has been a happy surprise for them, and now they are ramping up production. Not everything needs to be completely automated.
The reason why so many people find it hard to get LEE filters ie. being forced to wait several months on backorder is because Lee know their products are in high demand. This way they know how much to make approx, and this also helps keep the price artificially high hence why they don't want to flood the market because it would make their products cheaper - almost a degradation. It has nothing to do with their filters being handmade. Invest money in to getting new ovens to increase production.

@fuckinasshoification Sony makes way more money from selling tens of thousands of $1,000 plasma TVs than they did when they where priced at 10k each.
Cant rush in making good quality filters.Used other filters and have not being as good or consistant as a Lee Filter.May appear to be old fashioned and slow but look at the range of well known photographers who use such products.
Absolutely great video. Thanks for showing the effort (and sweat) that goes into making each filter. This made me value the Lee filters much more than just something that could be bought off the shelf that has been manufactured by robots. I am waiting for my big stopper. ;)
If you don't want to wait for a Lee filter then buy something else. There are enough of us that will gladly take your place in line. I'm sure Tiffens whiz through precision equipment and are mechanically boxed.
Watching this video made me want to take better care of my filters. Sure there are better ways to maximize revenue but the fact that we knowingly wait for this or that Lee filter to be produced clearly indicates that they are doing something right; taking pride in their craft perhaps?
No offence intended but it looks like Lee filters are in desperate need of a serious investment and update to include an automation system.
In this day and age you need efficient manufacturing. Those filters should be whizzing by on conveyor belts from ovens to precision laser cutting machines.
Being laser checked from one process to another, boxed up and gone. No dicking about. Just waited three months for my 'Big Stopper" to arrive. crazy!
@EasyTiger2494 That could cost hundreds of millions of dollars, or more, and could take decades to pay off from company profits - they might enjoy making things by hand, and the price is relatively inexpensive when you see how wonderfully they are made.
Great video! Now I understand why Lee filters are so hard to find in stock. I have two sets of ND grads (hard, soft) and must say after seeing your video they are now the pride of my bag. Thanks Mike
Great job on this video! I did not know that Lee filters were actually hand made. I don't know how any filters are made, really, but I did not expect it to be so "hands-on."
Thanks for posting the video. I always wandered how these filters were made a really interesting video now I know why Lee filters are so expensive as they are hand made thanks again for the video great video.
I love behind the scenes footage and this is something I never thought I would see. Thanks for the video and now I know why Lee is what they are today!

Wow I hadn't watched the whole video prior to commenting. This place is ran as if it's in the 1800's. No wonder stock is hard to find. Dumb

Why not buy a machine and join the 21st century Lee? Maybe then you could figure out how to keep up with demand.
