  • @rhiready His genre is Voltairean

  • I am pretty sure this is about a serial killer, his origin, the reasoning behind his killing and as the song ends the way it began , shows he is ready to kill again.

  • @willieelmono Could you clarify those mean words please?

As a fan of his music I find that offensive

I fully agree that this is a sad, sad world, any sane or insane man looking at the news would think so . . .

but why would it be wrong for an artist to pay his respects to a great philosofer by naming himself after him?

Musician Voltaire is clearly inspired by the Old Voltaire so it is only fitting, is it not?

    sincerely yours,

A unimportant person that appreciates both Voltaires

  • @willieelmono

    Yeah,

at least pick a fight with a poor musician instead of voltaire

  • @willieelmono a sad, sad day when someone is disappointed seeing a musician using ideals from a man who said person took the time to google. Voltaire is about social odds, social reform, etc. and that i can say about both the musician and philosopher.

  • @willieelmono Actually his middlename is legitimately Voltaire...

  • @willieelmono If you don't like it then why are you listening to the Voltaire mix playlist? Troll?

  • This song lyrics have such an impact on me, but then, I don't really understand them...

  • Is this about his mother sexually assaulting him?it's just the lines "first time I had sex I was 3, first time consenting was 18... you remind me of those hands" and "you look like my mother"

  • @crazydragonpunchyep, and it was consent at 13

  • @crazydragonpuncher Like some people might have told you i think its about a serialkiller.

  • This is why I have no lamp shades in my house and kill any and all insects I see

  • Voltaire`s lyrics are unique

  • Just downed the rest of a bottle of rum a minute ago. Is this song supposed to make me this sad? If so, bravo. If not... I don't know what to do...

  • haha, just got that one.

if im schizophrenic then i am too

  • @shankful1 i dont...what is it?

  • @snowywhitequeen basically it means that if Voltaire is schizo, then the voices in his head or alter egos are also schizo. if u dont know what schizophrenic is then go google it or sumthing

  • @snowywhitequeen It's a play on the misconception of the meaning of schizophrenia. Though the individual represented does show signs of schizophrenia that specific line is more about multiple personality disorder; the disease that is associated with schizophrenia in the minds of the general public.

  • i think voltaire should be in a bioshock game, he would beat the hell out of sander cohen.

  • never trust a lampshade...one minute it could be very bright and then the next thing you know you in the dark:)

  • ok, i'm sure there's a lampshade hanging joke here somewhere...

  • id believe it from the moth cause its been around, but a lampshade, come on its not like it has any mobility, how would it confirm the moths word (if im going to be crazy ill at least be sane about it... oha wait)

  • LAMPSHADE!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bu ne biçim şarkı ya içime ediyor resmen her dinlediğimde :/ yapmasaymışsın iyiymiş.

  • if i listen to this enough, it makes me cry.

  • @snowywhitequeen The first time I listened to it, the song made me cry. But I loved it so much that I just played it over and over again, like some crazy masochist. >:'D

  • @spacetubecleaner haha! nice.

  • @snowywhitequeen Oh, the good old days... but then to feel better, I just have to listen to Death Death (Devil Devil Devil Devil Evil Evil Evil Evil) Song. So bouncy! ^_^

  • @snowywhitequeen Glad to see I'm not the only one XD

  • I always have my mouse near the volume when i listen to a quiet song like this... I learned my lesson... Never heard that let the bodies hit the floor song before... heres me

"Let the bodies hit the floor? huh.. kinda quiet, here, let me set my speakers and youtube volume to max"

"Let the bodies hit the..... FLOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

    "GEEZUS!!!!"

  • @chrism4n14 same here, buddy lol

  • So voltaire has alzheimer's, alcoholism, and is schizophrenic?!

  • @zooryanzoo123 He doesn't have Alzheimer's or alcoholism. He has alcoheimer's.

  • LUV this song. it's beautiful like a weird work of art. :D

  • This song just wow its so awesome like no lie this and evil are my fravorite songs of his

  • @ChezeroDelVonBlair IF I'm schizophrenic, then I am too.

  • I'm having what Ke$ha felt when she stuck her hand in a bag of 25 cent silver

(Watch Conan to get it :D)

  • @gotsmillk I don't want to. Conan is a douchebag like every talk show host, and Ke$ha is nothing but a little hipster with no musical capability, making shitty music to appeal to faggots just like her who cannot comprehend any form of art outside of being hip and mainstream. You people need to stop pissing me off, it's making my heart a black hole.

  • @NRRRDLemur14 I'm already there my friend.

  • I don't like this song. I think they had a bit tooo much cocain for this one.

  • @Drreviewman It appears to be more of the effects of opium.

  • successful troll is successful

  • Question... Does anyone know what genre Voltaire would be under?

  • @rhiready Cabaret, Dark-Wave...etc...

  • @rhiready "Awesome."

  • @rhiready hes under tons of genres he doesnt different things every year he even did country recently and a kids album

  • @Deminese2 woah woah woah voltaire making a kids album? O_O

  • @kurosshadow he already has beleive it or not, the "boo hoo" album, which is a live performance, for child audience in Cartoon Networks studio o.O

  • "your eyes call to me, Set me free" can be interpreted as the eyes want to be set free(removed).

  • If i'm schizophrenic then I am too(':

  • People...stop arguing about your painful pasts and just enjoy the song please. O.o Sure, this song relates to me as well in ways but it doesn't really matter. Rather lets all enjoy the fine piece of work that has been created for us and Youtube has so kindly left on here for us to hear. :D

  • its a love song fuckers

  • @smellyfishboy I respectfully disagree it is so simple, fucker.

  • @smellyfishboy Yeah "First time I had sex I was 3, first time consenting was 13... I hope you understand why I'm forced to take your life..." and many others. Good guess at guessing the meaning of the song, but you're dead wrong.

  • I'm soooo in love with this song... This shades on me... and gives me strenght

  • For the longest time, I wondered how someone had managed to write a song about me without ever actually meeting me.

It's a small world when an artist can invent a story with real life events that correlate to particular individuals without intending to. Multiple specific events (schizophrenia in my family, the rape, even the supermarket portion) make it fascinatingly relevant.

  • @SculptedThoughts Then I am sorry for you, but at the same time I am happy that you found some kind of relief in this song.

  • @Radiscool1 Thank you, but my comment was not intended as a complaint. What I went through made me stronger, so I regret nothing.

  • Last night a moth came to my bed and filled my tired weary head with horrid tales of you I cant believe its true but then the lampshade smiled at me it said "Believe" it said "Believe I want you too know its nothing personal."

  • aryllia lol :P

  • ITs better tahn great.

  • My brother has this, and this really sounds like the random stuff he happens to let slip out of his mouth at times when he's not laughing and screaming to himself for no reason. I just got goosebumps when I saw how much this song relates to my brother, every lyric is really close to what he says at times.

  • i truly understand this

  • @scooter123450: No you don't. You never will unless you were raped. I've had a convo with him on this.

  • @GothicPorcelain

Really? To me the whole thing seems like basically about the distorted thought process of someone who has been through a terrible amount of trauma in their life. I didn't think that the fact that the trauma from the rape itself wasn't too important in the song, more of the collective building of tearing down the walls of sanity of this man.

  • @yalinegurl1 The song seems to follow a schizophrenic. The thoughts, and actions are something that would be commonly done by someone affected by schizophrenia

  • @Sonyas13

I'm aware that the man who is narrating the song is a schizophrenic, who was sexually assaulted very young, and was abandoned by his mother.

  • @GothicPorcelain

You assume quickly. Perhaps the person to whom you are replying to has been raped.

Not saying that it is likely, nor true. Simply do not rush to assumptions.

  • @Riot1TV

Just as you assume that I have only been raped once,

Try 8. i have every right to "assume" no one else has

  • @GothicPorcelain

I never said you had been raped only once! I never even said you had been raped. I never covered that subject at all, because I did not know if you had or had not prior to you telling me. I would make some apology because you have been raped, but we both know apologies from astranger are rather out of context. And yes, other people have. My mother was raped frequently as a child. Simply do not attack someone for saying their opinion in which you do not know their back story.

  • why the hell is everyone talking about a lampshade and a moth?

  • @ZeroJinKui Listen to the lyrics...

  • it was the bats fault,he thretaned to unplug the lamp and eat the moth if they didnt do it!

  • swearing voltaire?

  • You just don't get it, Both the Moth and lampshade planned this, See the lampshade stayed at his house to earn his trust while the moth devised the plan. When the moth got the signal it knew it was time They had it all planned out.

  • @Vanitas000 I still don't get it.

  • @icedragonxl4 It's about a guy who was molested by his mom, is schitzophrenic, and contemplating killing someone who looks like his mom b/c some random objects "told" him to.

  • Five soccer moms disliked this.

  • My lampshade told me to "believe" once, it creeped me out, so I gave it to Voltaire.

  • @twistedtick I gave them a handbasket once. I would like to tell you why but ugh...

    kinda hard to explain lol

  • This song gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. . . Mind you, on itunes alone, i've listened to it 347 times.

  • lots of people missed the like button...

  • Last night a moth came to my bed and filled my tired weary head with horrid tales of you I cant believe its true But then the lamp shade smiled at me It said Believe it said Believe I want you to know its nothing personal First time I had sex I was three First time consenting was thirteen Though you werent there you remind me of those hands Roses are red violets are blue If Im schizophrenic then I am too Whatever it takes to escape I hope you understand
  • the lampshade is his delusional paranoid hallucinations?

I heart this song best one by them

  • what's with the talking lampshade?...

  • @mindgoesblank0

    Its called schizophrenia

  • @qwerty1556 makes sense...

  • castlevania

  • this song makes me want to cry

  • All must bow to the Gothic Lord Voltaire!!!

  • @Str0ngSide *that was my brother.

  • hurray for voltaire

  • BAHAHA! I love this song! Same with When Your Evil ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @ShadeTheDark555 Yeah that sounds creepy. Ever had those kind of dreams, that later in life came true? Freaky. I had a specific dream in a series of nights of others, all others came true, except this one. A lot of fire, pain and screaming, a giant dark hill with a tall black figure standing. With a deep, EVIL voice says to me "You're coming down here with me!!!!". Perhaps you understand why i'm sort of freaked out? xD

  • my fav song in the world its pure awesomness

  • Excellent.

  • I love how you all take things so serious... this is VOLATAIRE, ladies and gentlemen. There are very few songs that actually reflect himself. Do stop reading too much into it. It's annoying, and kills the nature of the artist. >.>;

  • Dood, you know this discussion thing not about Voltaire, right? Or are you really that dense?

  • @AthrinShadowdance:

Tell me: if i have an interpretation of this song, hell why shouldnt i tell them to other people? It´s called a discussion, and thats what the comment section is for.

Again, my favourite Quote of an old teacher of mine:

It´s good to have an opinion, but if you dont discuss it, it´s Mental masturbation.

I Prefer having mental sex tho.

  • He's suffered abuse and neglect from his mother, who didn't want him, and developed schizophrenia as a result. I think that he has kidnapped someone (a woman who reminded him of his mother, perhaps) and is having a one-sided conversation with them. The line 'your eyes, they call to me, set me free' isn't figurative; the person is essentially begging him to free them, but he plans to kill them as a way of venting his hatred towards his mother.

  • @ProfessionalWhiteGuy and what about the line :IT's not easy being the chosen?

  • @MihailoSavic

Perhaps he wonders 'why him?' Maybe he is just pissed about his crappy lot in life.

  • @ProfessionalWhiteGuy 3 girls. and he was molested by his mother and then have sex with her again later. and he kills himself in front of one of the girls.

  • No, I think that the consensual sex part was with someone other than his mother. I don't think he's about to kill himself in front of his victim, I think he's about to kill them, as you would vent hatred through self destruction.

  • *wouldn't, sorry.

  • All of Voltaire's songs sound like they are coming out of some dark, wonderful musical!

  • @loonybin1125 I know right??? He's brilliant! XD I actually started writing a play script thingy around To the Bottom of the Sea, lol. I could definitely see that album as a musical, haha.

  • if you ask me, it seems like he's singing in the perspective of a serial killer who is near to taking his own life . murders [ usually ] have a reason for murdering people - "First time i had sex i was three" so the rape is his reason . Perhaps the person that raped him [ his mother im presuming ] is the reason he kills others, because they remind him of her . The schizophrenia is brought upon by post traumatic stress ?

either way, i flipping LOVE this song <3

  • far the darkest song of voltaire IMHO

  • this is what i think his mother raped him and he killed her then kills him self

  • @yuo252 i think your right execpt about killing his mother he kills somone who reminds him of her "did i ever tell you look like my mother"

  • So... This is why Voltaire turned Evil.

  • @originalNl1010 is there something called evil or good

thous are only toughts of human mind

is there god no i don't think so

but the ones who were chosed to suffer are doomed but that is in my mind in other words my opinion

  • @samlumen I'm referring to "When You're Evil"

  • This is the story of a God talking to one of his children, but who's who? Is it some creator God appologizing to some man who's life he has so tortured?

Or is it a schizophrenic man talking to the God spawned by his own mind? One plans to destroy the other, both by taking the man's life.

That's what I thought of the lyrics anyway

  • though we've never met i see your face in a milllion waking dreams ...it's premeditated murder ...not serial but kill u then me , kinda see what you've done deal

  • I've figured it out, it's all the lampshade's fault! o.o

  • @aryllia No, it's the moth's

  • @aryllia No You Fool. It's that damn Moth's Fault! The Moth told the lampshade to do it. LEAVE THE LAMPSHADE ALONE THE MOTH KIDNAPPED HIS LITTLE LIGHTNIGHTS!

  • @yuo252 Don't blame the poor Moth! Blame the... Uh... IT'S GOD'S FAULT! HE TRICKED THEM ALL!

  • I understand him...

  • kyoshi...didn't mean to give ya thumbs down

  • really really good song...i wish i was beter with words

  • i love the "then i am too" bit and yea i think it has to do with ptss *post tramatic stress syndrome like the whole 3 year old rape thing...

  • wow. i think this might be about a serial killer. just the way it's set up seems like it might be from that point of view. you know, how their minds work? the first victims might be someone they knew, then it goes on to random women with the same characteristics. "remind me of my mother" "why i'm forced to take your life into my hands. it's nothing personal"

  • @Leoswhitelighter i dont think hes a serial killer a killer definetley the verse changes to "why im forced to take my life in your name"

if anything hes been abused his entire life and then decides to put all his pain anger frustration and fixation on to this one person kills her then kills himself.

  • hes killing someone like his mother not his mother....so a serial killer is more likely

  • a serial killer needs to kill more than one person he kills her then himself <_< its a murder suicide if anything.

  • those lyrics are way too clevar,

he tottaly succseeded in creeping me out xD

but i dont get offended so i find this just brilliant

thank you for sharing. you rule =)

    -Sten0ne

  • every one in here has a least a -1, this one will get -10 and then removed

  • @Cronos844 yet it didnt it got 47 ironic eh?

  • @yuo252 ya that's why I laugh every time I see it

  • @yuo252 ya that's why I laugh every time I see it, I like the song none the less

  • As I see it, what he means by "First time I had sex, I was 3" is that his extra personality had sex with him (or him fapping: "Though you werent there, you remind me of those hands")

"Did I ever tell you, you look like my mother?" Maybe it was liek a sister, looking like his mom (or him, since it is his extra personality)

"I promised myself that I'd never feel that way again." He promised himself to never feel that way again, which an extra personality looking like her, maybe would make happen.

  • What is the "extra personality", exactly?

    Is it his imagination?

  • Yes. His schizophrenic personality.

  • In other words, you're saying he "raped" himself because he's bipolar? And that his "other self" is also his mother?

  • 1) Something like that. 2) Yes, or maybe someone who looks like her.

  • @thenerferman I don't think you can rape yourself

  • "first time I had sex, I was 3" maybe he was raped or something.

"Did I ever tell you, you look like my mother?" Ya I think you were right.

"I promised myself that I'd never feel that way again." maybe he was talking about loving another person.

  • @mickelvlm

wow I totaly don't see it that way, but respect your opinion.

  • For some reason, listening to this song almost gives me euphoria.

  • @thenerferman

If your werent exsagerating and not joking then ( no offence ) you would have to all ready be a little strange in the head ( or on some drugs ), and not just because you said you said it about the song.

Sorry if I did/said anything to offend or upset you ( I have yet to send it and I feel bad ).

  • OMG IM SO OFFENDED WAAAH!!!!

Just kidding. I'm beginning to think I'm a tad bit sadistic or something. :P

  • @thenerferman

Wow I have no response aside from my last one...Is that what you wanted to happen?

  • Please expand.

    (But don't explode.)

  • what?

  • ahhhhhhhhhhh now every one thinks i thought he was raped by his mother. If you look below you see that i made that commit as a joke at some one who was saying his mom raped him.

  • Comment removed

  • "gaga googoo, sex"

"OMG Sex is his first word! I guess I better give him what he wants!"

  • fist time i had sex i was 3 first time CONSENTING was 13

  • Yo people in the song he never says his mom raped him. He says he was Raped at 3. so how does a woman rape a 3 year old.

  • to TheBigballenb no it does not say that he was raped by his mother, but it is implied, because he says '' did i evere tell you that you look like my mother'' and then he go's on saying thats why he must take he rlife in his hands, and in the earleier part of the song he says '' the first time i had sex was 3 the first time consented 13'' so its implied that it was his mother that raped him other wise he would never had said the phrase '' did i ever tell you that you look like my mother.

  • if you listen he says "Did i ever tellyou? You look like my mother.

She once left me in a supermarket.

I promised myself that i'd never feel that way again.

Did i ever tell yo? you look like my dear old mother"

so he never actually even implies that he was raped by his mother...he merely says that his first sexual encounter was at 3...whether it was his mother, aunt, scout captian, gym coach, perverted preist he nvr actually says or even implies as to who it is

  • while I see your point and agree to an extant, he (or who the song is about) could just be adding that to the song to add more about his mother not being a good mother.

  • yes you can know what the song is about just listen to the words

  • Look i'm getting tired of this.

NO ONE can know what this song is about unless you go to voltaire and ask him, if you haven't done that then please keep your interpretations to yourselves.

  • i always thought this song was about falling cows and flying dogs but thats just my opinion

  • how did you get that interpretation?

  • i read between the lines duhhhh!

  • suit your self (i am not trying to be rude).

  • i didnt think you where. i just didint no how to respond to a commint responding to a strange comment like the one i posted that you responded to before my second post where i responded to the first commint you posted responding to my first comment

  • confusing
