@loveladyrick I'm British but my mum was born in Flint. Her parents were Scottish and moved back to the UK when she was just a few months old. She's never been back to the States but has always wanted to go. I didn't know that Mark Farner was from Flint.

Their manager was a crook & wouldn't let the band speak publicly- the critics hated them, audiences loved them. True Classic Rock!
The band was formed by Flint, MI, guitarist/songwriter Mark Farner and drummer Don Brewer, both former members of a local band called Terry Knight & the Pack. They recruited former ? & the Mysterians bassist Mel Schacher in 1968, and Knight retired from performing to become their manager, naming the group after Michigan's well-known Grand Trunk Railroad.
Grand Funk Railroad is an American band which formed in 1969 in Flint, Michigan, United States. The band initially consisted of Mark Farner (vocals, guitar), Mel Schacher (bass) and Don Brewer (drums), with Craig Frost (keyboards) joining in 1972. During their career, the band released 14 studio albums and their career sales total over 25 million records sold, including 10 million records sold in 1970 alone.
This was our encore performance for taking 1st place in a talent contest with my brother and a few other guys that were put together in middle school. Man...what a rush we got back then. Thanks again GFR.
My best friend's Dad was the pilot for their private plane, that flew them from concert to concert. My friend and all his brothers would always wear their concert shirts to school, red and orange kind of psychedelic colors with a big Thunderbird in the front, with Grand Funk Railroad on them.
I could say that in a sort of way Jess MacPherson was father of The Vocational Triad in LC though its Personification has passed to another from Australia! Liam Hemsworth! "Heaven has strange ways of molding our Destiny!"( A line from A Charlton Heston film on Junior ROTC for young kids!)
There was only One Word from JESS:"VOCATIONAL"! Well, Leave it to Beaver? But I now have The Vocational Triad of "A CUBED" of Actor Vocatus ...!No specific Vocational Career ever happened to me sinse then, but God has special Work for me to Do, nevertheless!

Wildman drummer Don Brewer wrote this one. From his Songfacts interview:
"We were going from town to town, there were lawsuits flying all over the place, it was a very tumultuous time period. I remember lots of discussions in the back of cars going, 'What are we going to do next?' Our manager kept saying, 'Why don't you just write songs about what you do."

OK, I love this band...but come on, NO ONE had ever enen THOUGHT about playing a rock show in a stadium as big as Shea before the Beatles did it....so it took 7 days to sell out, that was 1964...ten years before GFR sold it out. This is an historical document... Led Zeppelin made the unfortunate mistake of calling upon Grand Funk to be their back-up band... HELP: This song has a riff that is copied from something here american and I can't put my finger on it other than its from this era.....listen starting at the 20 second mark for a bit and you'll hear what I'm trying to figure out....I can't post the URL here so I can only tell you what to enter in search for here on youtube
I REMEMBER THE FIST NIGHT I HEARD THIS ALBUM ONE I WONT FORGET I WAS INTO HENDRYX AND SANTANI AND ALL THE BIG GUYS THEM gfr COMES ALOND AND EARNS 30 GOLD RECORDS I DONT KNOW HAVE MANYU WENT PLATNIUM.I THOUGHT HERE IS FINALLY A GUY WHO HAS THE PERFECT ROCK VOICE AN S WAS MY STANDARD FOR YEARS TILL I GOT jOHN mEHYER HE IS A MUSIC WIZZ ALSO
I had this 45 when I was a teenager and I think I remember it being gold. The only gold record I remember seeing. Does anyone else remember this? I know I had a gold 45 but I am not 100% sure it was this one, but I think it was.
Its pretty difficult to sing and play drums at the same time, I have tried. This guy does it with perfection, my favorite song by Grand Funk Railroad!
Что говорить ?????????????? Хорошая команда ...Я со времён СССР слушал их ! Молодцы -одни из лучших ! (до сих пор на полке стоит их винил-BORN TO DAY-вот так!)
Songs like this make me sad I was born in the '80s and not earlier. Not that music during the '80s was bad, but it seems the '60s and '70s were so much more talented and just a sort of laid-back jam feel.
I gotta agree with deerdust up in the top comments. I just turned 53 and this song puts back in the old neighborhood. We all had dirtbikes (mine was the hodaka wombat) and we could ride for miles. Now theres housing developments everywhere and things are way different. Like you said a whole different world today.

I had this 45 when I was a teenager and I think I remember it being gold. The only gold record I remember seeing. Does anyone else remember this? I know I had a gold 45 but I am not 100% sure it was this one, but I think it was.
doodlesuedee 5 months ago
@doodlesuedee Yes I had it ( 45 record) as a teenager. It was gold and had a statement on the label suggesting record be played at maximum volume. :)

Its pretty difficult to sing and play drums at the same time, I have tried. This guy does it with perfection, my favorite song by Grand Funk Railroad!

Better than "I'll put a spell on you" by the Hex sisters from scooby doo and worse than "Let the good times roll" by the Cars.
